2,000 in anne arundel county. at the top of the hour, brewing new controversy in dc's public schools. comments about fired teachers by chancellor rhee that are raising a lot of eyebrows. kristin fisher is live from the wilson building with the story. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. the relationship between schools chancellor michelle rhee and dc teachers was already on thin ice, but things got much more heated after comments rhee made in a magazine out this month. take a look. inside the pages of fast company magazine's february edition, michelle rhee is quoted as saying -- now dc council chairman vincent gray is calling henri to appear before the council today to explain. >> miss rhee should explain to tell us why she said what she says because it certainly maligns teachers. >> reporter: she blamed budget cuts last october but it appears no cases of sexual or physical abuse were ever filed with authorities and now these teachers want answers. >> she started by saying they were incompetent teacher and then no a budget crisis and now we are not just incompetent but child molesters and we beat kids and anger is an understatement but just angry, angry that i was back in this situation. >> it is unfair and untrue. i think she owes those members an apology. >> reporter: rhee has been asked to speak before the council today to explain those comments but so far she's not survivors after what plane crash in lebanon. an ethiopian airlines jet crashed minutes after takeoff from beirut. it went down in the mediterranean. 90 people were on board. none of them americans. at day we seem to get images like this. a man pulled out alive from a rubble of a storm over the weekend, 11 days after the quake. doctors say he is doing well. >> reporter: three men are now in custody. they are charged with killing a marine at a house party in baltimore. the victim was 20-year-old private first class darius ray. early on sunday, police arrested three men all three will be charged with first- degree murder. >> go in to a party with a violent weapon with the intent to kill somebody we just don't need those people around and we have to start, again, holding these people accountable. >> reporter: another man was injured in the stabbing. private first class ray was stationed here in washington and he grew up in foster homes in montgomery county. while metro considers what fare hike and service changes it needs to make to pay its bills, it wants to make it easier for you to pay your fare. the transit agency could soon allow you to pay from a debit or credit card. arundel county police officer accused of sending illicit text messages is due in court today. he was arrested last week. federal investigators say he repeatedly sent messages to that teenager and the fbi thinks he sent pictures of himself to the girl and received some in return. he says this should send a warning to every parent. >> if your kid has a cell phone you ought to be checking that phone to see what numbers are being called. you ought to see what photographs are being sent and received from that phone. >> reporter: if convicted on the one charge he's now facing he faces a minimum of on power outages across the region. dominion has 20,000 with the majority in fairfax county. pepco has a list down to 4900 but bge, look at this huge leap in the last 30 minutes. it is now dealing with -- 13,000 outages and parents angry about cut backs in the fairfax county school system will testify at hearings throughout the week. this weekend many attended a rally in mclean. they want more state funding for the school system. state funding for schools in virginia is based on the local composite index formula. it is used to make sure smaller, less affluent regions are able to provide the same quality education as the rest of the state. some say the lci needs to be reset to account for lower property values in northern virginia. >> the future of our children rests on our ability to organize, to keep our schools strong, our willingness to fund them. your effort to try to get the $61 million from the state would make a profound difference. >> parents of signed petitions are sending e-mails to legislators in richmond asking them to reset the lci. to the district where comments by school chancellor michelle rhee has the teachers union and some city leaders mad. digital correspondent kristin fisher is live at the wilson building with more on the story. >> this have a big deal because in these new comments from michelle rhee she essentially accuses dc teachers of abusing and sexually molesting students and yet it appears no charges were filed with authorities. that's why vincent gray is calling henri to explain. >> over 1,000 teacher thes, students and parents protested michelle rhee's firing of 266 dc teachers last october. at the time, rhee blamed budget cuts. but inside the pages of february's fast company magazine rhee is quoted as saying i got rid of breaking news out of lebanon. an ethiopian plane crashed in to the sea shortly after taking off from beirut. lebanon's president says sabotage is not suspected in the crash. ships are searching the mediterranean sea for survivors. there's no word if the stormy weather played a role in the crash. terrorism, though has been ruled out. you could be required to show a voter i.d. before voting in virginia that is if a woodbridge republican gets his way. the republican sponsored the bill which is moving forward in richmond. he said it would cut voter fraud. right now you can sign a statement affirming your identity. opponents believe it could disenfranchise some voters. it is time for another "living $mart" report. ben bernanke may be back, too. >> there is a growing list of senators who don't want him to have a second term as the head of the federal reserve. the senate is scrambling to schedule a vote by week's end. others say there is enough support for a second bernanke term. he is
