The field director and son of an 11term congressman finally seems to give in offering advice on how to pull off the deception at the polls. Look at the law. The maryland state board of elections is investigating a problem with absentee ballots there. Some ballots in Prince Georges County seemed to be missing a page. So far the board has confirmed the mistake in fewer than 20 ballots. Residents who requested absentee ballots should make sure there is a second page which includes the questions 4 through 7. Today supporters and opponents of the samesex marriage referendum in maryland are planning to rally at Gallaudet University in the district, but theyre both fighting for the same thing. Police say an elderly man was killed after a boulder crushed his home. Sandy took down trees and power lines and sent about 500 people fleeing to shelters. This thing exploded yesterday from a Tropical Storm yesterday morning to even a cat 3 at one point last night. We were looking at a category 2 storm this afternoon going through the central bahamas. The questions come after that the official track for the Hurricane Center parallels the coast here as it heads east of us as a strong nonTropical Storm, still with winds at 70 miles an hour. In health news this morning, researchers discover another potential use for one of the worlds oldest and cheapest medications. A new study in the new england journal of medicine finds that aspirin is showing promise in helping to treat colon cancer. In fact five years after being diagnosed, 97 of patients who used aspirin were still alive compared to 37 of those not taking the drugs. Some advanced Cancer Patients are optimistic about their chance for longterm survival. A new study also in the new england journal of medicine found 69 of patients with advanced lung and 81 of those with advanced colon cancer did not understand that chemotherapy was not likely to cure their disease. Researchers say the misunderstanding can pose obstacles to end of life planning. Older women who use hormone therapy can reduce their risk of developing alzheimers later on. Researchers studied 1700 women who were 65 and older for more than a decade. Those who used hormones within five years of menopause had a 30 lower risk of developing alzheimers. More research is needed before any new recommendations come out before hormone use that are made for older women. Government Health Experts are earning all pregnant women to get a whooping cough vaccination. The purpose is to protect newborns who are too young to get the vaccine. 16 people in the u. S. Have died from whooping cough just this year. A new study of recently revised vitamin d guidelines found millions of americans may no longer need to take the supplements. The changes might be confusing for patients who previously were required to take extra vitamin d. Reporter doctors put 63 yearold alegra on vitamin d supplements after blood tests showed low levels. But now a new study shows she does not need to take it anymore. Deficiency of vitamin d is not as prevalent as we thought prior to the study which is good news. Reporter researchers at Loyola University say under recent recommendations from the institute of medicine, nearly 80 million americans would no longer need additional vitamin d. The 2010 guidelines said people get enough vitamin d if their blood levels are at or above 20nanograms per million liter. Older guidelines indicated above 30 were necessary. But some doctor groups dont agree with the new guidelines and are still describing doses of vitamin d under the old guidelines. Vitamin d is critical for healthy bones but too much can damage the kidneys and heart. Dr. Albert levy says a balanced diet and a little sun can help maintain vitamin d levels. Sun will activate the vitamin d. 20 minutes of sun exposure three times a week. Reporter alegra is listening to her doctor and stop taking the supment but will let him know if she starts to feel different without it. Patients should talk to their doctor if theyre feeling fatigued or tired because that may be a sign of low levels. A warning before you raid the candy bowl this halloween. I was planning on that.
