Tornadic thunderstorms in illinois and the same system doesnt mean were going to have a repeat of that. But we still have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect from eastern areas of tennessee all the way now to South Central pennsylvania. Including much of the washington region. Our watches in effect until 5 00 p. M. For the washington metro area and most of Northern Virginia and maryland. Southern maryland the Eastern Shore the Northern Neck you are not in it at this point. Areas south and east are seeing it and by 5 30 should be much better for us in the metro area. But the next few hours we really got to Pay Attention to whats happening with in mind, our own meteorologist melissa nord is out in the sheehy Storm Tracker 9. However, directly behind us, we were traveling through manassas, d. C. , youre seeing this sun coming out. And that sunshine on a Severe Weather potential day is not a good thing. You see the sunshine behind us . This is looking out the back. That sunshine is destabilizing the atmosphere thats going to be fuel for thunderstorms that are really going to get going. So right now were going to continue to travel west and hope to stay ahead of these storms and track them as they continue following east into the metro area. Were specially concerned about that damaging straightline wind threat as that line of thunderstorms gets east of the mountains and gains some steam and howard was saying theyre going to be moving quickly. Theyre going to come in and bring really strong wind gusts with them in addition to the heavy rain, lightning threat could see some hail. And even cant rule out the isolated tornado. Europes biggest and most active volcano mount etna continues to spew lava. The latest eruptions which can last days and even weeks started two nights ago. Crews on the scene reported no danger to the towns that dot the mountain slopes. Beautiful as long as the lava stays there. Yes. Weve got the own weather concerns today. Severe thunderstorm watches are now being issued out to the west, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings being issued and i want to quickly discuss the between a watch and a warning. Weather watches whether they be severe thunderstorm or winter storm et cetera, indicate a risk or a hazardment when we have warnings that means the event is occurring imminent or likely. When we have a warning, thats when you need to take action save property and lives and the watches go back the tennessee. Up to South Central pennsylvania and until 5 00. And go over this once again. What you can expect today . Maybe some gusty winds up to 70 miles an hour in the worst of the storms. With some large hail and even an isolated tornado and weve seen some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings now in the general watch box area. This line is moving east 50 to 60 miles an hour. I put some estimates of when the storms are going to get you based on 60. So maybe a few minutes early but id rather be early than late with storm arrival times. This whole line now is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning basically. Up and down i81 and points west here. In toward the mountains of western maryland and West Virginia. We can see gusts to 60 Miles Per Hour with these storms. Approaching woodstock right now. Youll notice the warning until 12 45 for augusta and rockingham and shenandoah and warren and then to the north of that, weve got another warning. By the way this one loosening lice its going to be likes like front royal and rockville just before 1 30. Up to the north, cumberland to flint stone approaching han. Thats also another Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Which is moving east again at around 50 miles an hour. So 12 45 alleghany and berkeley and frederick anhampshire and even a few of the counties we just run out of room to list all the counties there. But you need to take some cover and not a good time to be outside. Get inside if the garbage cans are outside get them inside as well if you have time. We think towards winchester again around 12 35 and hagerstown 12 50 and frederick 1 10 and germantown 1 23. Here in d. C. I think 2 00, maybe 2 30 at the latest is when the line is going to get to us, were watching taps mid if not you have temperatures mid if not upper 70s. 1 00, 2 00 3 00 in the here well watch out for the storm threat in the district. Right now theyve shot up a little sunshine outside. Were at 74. Leesburg 73. Fredericksburg 77. So the atmosphere getting energized in advance of the line of storms through. With temperatures behind that line in the 40s in the mountains. Here at washington, michael son camera, just a few puffy clouds out there. Some sunshine 74. The winds are picking up. Southsouthwest gusting to 28 and the dew points have shot into the 60s. Low level moisture in place and big picture storm spinning over the great lakes with snow on the backside. You can see the storms have been driving from indianapolis right now toward our neck of the woods and the concern again is mainly for some damaging wind gusts. With these storms. So at 2 30, futurecast took the line of storms basically from baltimore to washington, to not quite fredericksburg there. Almost toward culpeper lets say. As we move in time to 4 30, now the line of storms down in st. Marys county and southern calvert the lower Eastern Shore and the Northern Neck. To the evening look at this 7 00, lines from richmond south. Another line of showers approaching the mountains. But for us, other than a passing shower this evening, the worst of the weather is going to be in the next two to three hours. So you got to keep i would be inside and id hunker down and if you got tall trees near you, when we talk about gusts near 60, 70 Miles Per Hour thats enough to blow the trees down. So stay downstairs low level. Best choice until the storm passes, 76 today. We could even shoot up to 78 or more just we have to wait until that front passes, colder behinded in the 40s tonight and 50s tomorrow but i think nickeledder in the afternoon to 30s by friday morning. Friday windy and cold. Furrilies and some snow showers. 46. Yes. Degrees colder for the high on 30 degrees colder for the high on friday. Over the weekend we start cold and finish milder and get springlike again monday and tuesday. Back with more coming up in just a moment. Plus new details on the early predicted peak bloom of our beloved Cherry Blossoms. Yeah some have already bloomed not those but some have. Were watching the storms here, they are booking east at 50, 60 Miles Per Hour and weve got a watch until 5 00 but that whole line now is one giant Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Currently until 12 45. As it moves east you notice its just a few minutes away if the winchester area and right on top of strasburg right now. And right now the main danger andrea and its past woodstock on top of luray is winds gusting to 60 Miles Per Hour. Go north here are the warnings new warning that just came out there for culpeper and Prince William and until 1 15. Thats a brand new warning. So we will be watching that. Cut in throughout the day and remember the latest on the app and also wusa9. Com. And thats it for us. Well be back at noon with the very latest. Have a gr victoria billys showing our new rep out.
