You just cant imagine what a nebraska mother and father are dealing with now, another tragedy in orlando, while they were on vacation. Their small child is missing. After being dragged by a gator, at disney world. The fathers desperate effort to save his son had failed. Don champion at the resort with the latest developments. Crews searching for the missing 2yearold snatched into a lake by an alligator admits time is not on their side. Hope is dimming up with every hour. The boy has not been seen since 9 30 tuesday night, when he was playing in Shallow Water at the seven seas lagoon at disneys grand floridaian resort and spa. The boys parents an another young sibling were there as the horror unfolded. The father was standing nearby. When the alligator attacked the child. The father then went into the water and tried to wrestle the small child from the grip of the alligator. Do not swim signs are posted in the area. Disney has closed all resort beaches out of an abundance of caution. We have already alligators and looked at those alligators and determined right now, we couldnt find any evidence that they were involved. The family from nebraska had been staying at the Luxury Resort for a few days. A spokesman for disney says the resort is devastated. And doing what it can for the family. The timing of the tragedy has left the Orlando Community reeling. I cant comprehend what any of this would be like as a parent. Losing my child. My 20yearold at the pulse. Or my 2yearold. In the wake of the tragedy, disney world has closed all of the beaches today. In orlando, new details are starting to emerge about the shooter in the nightclub massacre. Investigators tell cbs news that omar mateen went to work the day of the rampage, went home, and then traveled to that nightclub where he killed 49 people. Kenneth reporter investigators say noor salman knew her husband omar mateen wanted to commit a terror act and investigators say she told them she went with the pulse nightclub on at least one occasion and tried to convince not to do through with the attack. Cbs news learned mateen went to work as a security in the gated community on the day of the shooting. As he gunned down innocent victims at the gay bar, they say mateen called 911 and went on facebook declaring allegiance to isis and called a local tv station. Documentary footage shows mateen working as a Security Guard in to 20a 10. The material is from the 2012 documentary, the big fix, about the deep Water Horizon Oil spill in the gulf of mexico. Prosecutors are considering whether to charge mateens wife. So far, there is no evidence she called police to warn them about her husbands plan here. Officials in orlando a Family Assistance Center for victims and their loved ones. You can come in and then go to the places where you think you might need either legal help or counseling help, or help with travel. Or help with funeral arrangements. Many of the wounded remain hospitalized. Patients carter and friends were held hostage in a bathroom. I can see piles of bodies lying over the toilet seats and slumped over in the bottom of the toilet covered with land prints and blood. She and one of her friends survived. This is the nats 12th night out event and it was scheduled even before the sunday massacre in florida. One minute, they were stuck the next minute, they were helping to save lives on the georgetown parkway. Nikki burdine has more on the Good Samaritans who jumped in quickly after a bus crash in mount vernon. Reporter the tour bus was leaving mount vernon here at about 5 00 yesterday in the heart of rush hour. And headed northbound, on the gw parkway. When the accident happened. Police say Good Samaritans, if they had not stopped to help, it would have been a whole lot worse. Police say in the middle of the chaotic scene, several people, many of them military, pulled over to help those trapped under the bus. They managed to flip it upright. And help get them to safety. In all, 15 people were rushed to the hospital, including two people in the vehicle that collided with the bus. Now, police say they want to talk to those Good Samaritans. Many of whom left before police got there. Investigators hope those bystanders will be able to shed light on exactly what happened. I dont know who was at fault. But i could see how that could happen easily. Reporter people like Bobby Mahoney who frequent mount vernon know just how tricky this curve of the gw wa the concrete is split and it looks like three lanes and if you were to get into this one that look like a lane and follow that around the curb, you end up on the other side of the road. And mount vernon is tough for buss to get through. It is a tight area with traffic going north and south. Reporter police say at this point it is still not clear who was at fault in the accident. Reporter an 18yearold man arranged to meet someone at park seven apartments to sell a cell phone. But the wouldbe customer got it for free, after snatching it, and some cash before running off. Two hours later, a man was robbed at second and e streets in north west. According to police, he was attacked by two people who threw him to the ground, taking his wallet, cash and other belongings. Everybody needs to be watching. 27th street in northeast wasnt a safe place to be a half hour later. No one was robbed but an argument broke out leading to a fierce assault. The victims taken to the hospital. A couple hours later a man and woman were robbed in the 1800 block of 8th street in northwest. The woman noticed they were being followed by two people who pulled out two handguns, pointing them at both victims. A second pair of victims were robbed in th around ak 5 00 a. M. Police reports say a pair of suspects popped out of an alley both wearing face masks. The victims were held at gunpoint and stripped of personal belongings. Now to baltimore, where the popular dolphin show at the National Aquarium is being phased out. The move could pave the way for how animals are released from captivity. How they are treated in the future. Don daler reports. Reporter more than a Million People a year come to the National Aquarium. And the dolphins are a major attraction. In this 1. 3 milliongallon pool, they glide around, and flip. Interacting with kids, and adults. Trainers keep them occupied. Give them daily checkups. And endless supplies of fish. Chesapeake is 24. You can actually you would like. We will check the condition of the teeth and look at the tongue. The first dolphin born in the aquarium. You can see how calm she is with this. So how long have you had a relationship with her . I have been here for 10 years. And we are constantly building that trust and relationship. That relationship will soon change. Within five years, the aquarium wants to move the dolphins to a sanctuary like this along an ocean front. They are looking at places such as florida and the caribbean. The operating principal is dolphins first. John wreckanelli is the ceo of the aquarium and this site will allow the dolphins to interact with other sea life. There will be crabs on the bottom and lobsters perhaps finding their way into crevices and jelly fish will drift in and out but these dolphins need to learn to cope with every single one of those natural features. Because they have been fed almost their whole lives. We have to teach them how to be dolphins and theyre smart, the good ne, cognitive capabilities. It is that intelligence that humans have started to grasp over the last 50 years. They call him flipper. Flipper. In the 60s, americans were captivated by flipper. And wanted to see dolphins as well as other large and intelligent marine animals like orcas up close. In the 1990s, free willie showed the amazing escape of an orca whale. And in 2013, black fish exposed what captivity can do to marine animals. All whales in captivity are all psychologically traumatized. Sea world is phasing out the orca show and even the ring bling brothers barnum and bailey circus has ended the elephant show. This has been a reaction to the fact that times have been changing dramatically from generation to generation. As attitudes change, we think that our attitude should, too.
