Serviceman is dead after an afghan soldier opened fire on nato troops this morning. U. S. Forces shot and killed the gunman but not before he killed the american and wounded two others. The shooting happened in the city of jalalabad after a meeting between regional leaders and a u. S. Embassy official. We dont know the condition of the wounded troops. Also no word yet on the motive for the attack. Jurors in the Boston Marathon bombing trial are in their second full day of deliberations after having two questions answered by the judge this morning. Dzhokhar tsarnaev faces 30 counts, 17of which can be punished by he 7 of 17 of which can be punished by death. Tsarnaevs lawyers hope to spare him execution by arguing their client only went along with his older brothers plot. A White South Carolina Police officer is charged with murder after he shot a black man during a traffic stop. And he might thought have been charged if someone hadnt come forward with a video of the shooting. The video shows North Charleston officer Michael Slager shooting at 50yearold walter scott at least eight times as scott is running away from the officer with his back tom. A bystander took the video saturday morning and it appears to contradict the officers claim that he felt threatened when he fired. The f. B. I. Has now joined this investigation. An interesting twist in the world of local politics. The Maryland Senate election is 19 months away but this morning a local county executive endorsed one of the candidates. Reporter well, it was county executive Rushern Baker who crossed not only county lines but racial lines and gender lines to endorse chris van hollen, the congressman from Montgomery County, a big surprise to a lot of voters here in Prince Georges County and a lot of political observers around the state. This goes back to a deep personal relationship between baker and van hollen. Here is some of what baker had to say here in colmar manor this afternoon. Im endorsing a person that ive known for almost 20 years. Im endorsing a person that doesnt see joing on geography see geography. Im endorsing a person that understanding Prince Georges County. Consist executive baker was also joined by the county executive from Montgomery County ike leggett, also an africanamerican man who said van hollens record on racial and inclusion issues is, quote, impeccable. Baker again underlined today his personal relationship with van hollen that goes all the way back to his days in the maryland General Assembly for this endorsement today but its definitely raised a lot of eyebrows here in Prince Georges County. In less than an hour, emotions a motions hearing begins in the case of anthony roberts. Roberts was indieded in indicted for the 2009 murder of [ inaudible ] she was severely injured. Ralio castillo is charged with hanging his wife to try to make the death look like a suicide. She was found hanging in her bathroom shower in march 2013. Castillo has been out on a 2 million bond. His trial is set for july. Days before a holocaust remembrance week, a local synagogue has been vandalized. Surveillance video of the shaare torah synagogue captured the crime early yesterday. After a pursuit and foot chase, over officers arrested him near fairfax drive and barton street. The officer was not seriously hurt. Police are searching for the hitandrun driver who heard an offduty hurt an offduty Police Officer in Montgomery County. Police tell us the officer was struck while walking in chevy chase yesterday afternoon near wisconsin and south park avenues. That officer was also not seriously injured. It declares directv has better signal reliect but the National Reliability but the National Advertising division of the Better Business bureau says those statements are unsupported and they should discontinue the claims. I think directv believed we have a great campaign. People are talking about. Its entertaining people and its working. Lets run it till we get the cease and desist. Reporter directv said the advertisements are so outlandish that no reasonable consumer would believe the statements being made need to be substantiated. Im meat head rob lowe. Reporter the ads have been a success. They were losing subscribers before this Campaign Came on. They gamed subscribers in the two quarters where they ran the ads. Reporter and though the commercials generated a lot of buzz for the company, it hasnt come without controversy. For every one of those commercials, directv received complaints from some group or another but if you can make people stop and watch your commercial today, that is a really big deal. The findings of the National Advertising division are not legally binding so directv doesnt have to stop running those commercials, but directv told cbs theyd already planned to stop running the lowe ads at the end of this month but reserve the right to bring them back. When he ordered mandatory water restrictions, governor jerry brown said it was a different world. Californians apparently arent ready to give up on their old habits. Environmental Scientists Say the state only reduced water usage by 3 in february and the researchers say the blame is equally spread among residents, businesses and government agencies. Disappointing conservation figures for february are just one more reason why the governor issued his call for 25 urban reduction in his executive order last week. With the disappointing numbers, the state water board plans to lay out a more detailed water restriction policy and it will include an online reporting system where people can rat out water violators. A little bit better in culpeper at 52 but our temperatures are not growing to get much better than that. Were still staying into the mid50s. Tomorrow well go to the upper 50s. We want some 70s. Then as we head to friday, we start off the morning dry. Then the winds are going to start to turn out of the southwest. So were going to be near 80 degrees. That seems nice but that sets the stage for some strong to even possibly severe thunderstorms friday night. So when i said things get a little bit worse, yeah, were going to have a lot of heavy downpours, lightning, strong winds will be a big threat for this. Then it pushes on out by friday evening and things get better. Saturday and sunday look absolutely remarkable. Near 70 degrees, sunshine. The next couple of days were going to have a stripping of yellow alerts. Well probably change that friday to a yellow alert with strong thunderstorms possible in the evening. 58 for tomorrow. I saw you believe this is the perfect event to entice more kids and adults to this healthy activity. Why is it so important . Its so important that we get people moving. I think as you know, theres more studies coming out every day that show any type of movement, getting off the couch, especially with your children is the right thing to do both for health and fitness and then also to promote a healthy lifestyle. We feel the mile is the simplest way to start things. I was asking why just a mile. You say its an easy way to get them into it and break them into getting into this habit. The Attention Span in children can last anywhere from a minute to two or three minutes. And with the mile, you can go out to a field during recess and say how about do four laps around the field. Before they know it, theyve run a mile. Its infectious. As you can see, children, you may think its intimidating but ive been to a lot of these events and kids are always happy, even if youre sloping up there as the guy who is going to give the tshirt at the finish line. Its become something that we have been thrilled to see succeed in local communities and were really hoping to gain more access and get more kids in the District Of Columbia and surrounding areas to do it. You need teachers, p. E. Teachers or teachers of any classroom subject getting the kids involved. And you start the program, the Training Program with the kindergartners, first grade, second grade all the way through eighth grade. Absolutely. For a while there, there actual will are some programs that limit running to children from fourth grade and up. If you ask any medical education professional or p. E. Teachers, theyll tell you thats hogwash, that you can start children running at the mile distance at kindergarten age. Its good for their health. Plus, it sets a great base for the future.
