Prosecutors are resuming their aggressive questioning of former Virginia GovernorBob Mcdonnell once again. Charged with corruption, mcdonnell returned to the witness stand after more than four hours of testimony on monday. Peggy fox is live at the federal courthouse in richmond with more on on whats going on today. Peg . Reporter its like watching a verbal sparring match with prosecutor michael drive firing questions at mcdonnell and mcdonnell answering with a short yes or no and sometimes stopping the prosecutor and saying, you asked me a couple of questions there. Could you rephrase it. This back and forth all morning long about all of the details. In fact Bob Mcdonnell kind of looked exasperated. Take a look at the walkin right there. This morning mcdonnell was escorted once again by his daughter kaelin. The prosecutor has drilled mcdonnell about several handwritten notes he took from a phone conversation with Jonnie Williams about a loan. He said did you understand that hes offering to loan you 150,000 in Star Scientific stock . That you would only have to repay 90,000. Mcdonnell said, quote, it really wasnt clear to me. All i wanted was a loan for 50,000 in cash. Mcdonnell has also disputed what his long time broker testified to about him wanting to separate, having a separate account for star shares. He says he doesnt recall saying that, doesnt remember that happening. Then there were rapid fire questions about mcdonnell promoting anatabloc. Youve seen that picture of him holding that bottle of anap block anatabloc. He was asked how many other companies and products did you pose with that have given you a 50,000 loan, have given your wife a 50,000 loan, have given your daughter 15,000 for her wedding reception and to each question mcdonnell answered none. Heres what Bob Mcdonnell said this morning. I really cant talk about any of my testimony on the stand. Im just looking forward to continuing to tell the truth today. Reporter any regrets not taking the plea . Reporter how difficult is this to watch . Excuse us, guys. Excuse us. I feel pretty good today. Thank you. Reporter another very interesting point this morning, weve all seen it, everybody in the courtroom has seen emails from Bob Mcdonnell referring to Jonnie Williams and misspelling his first name. Jonnie williams spells his first name jonnie. Every single email he has an h in the name. The prosecutor mocked that. Is it our testimony that your personal friend that you dont know how to spell their name, you misspelled it here. You misspell it here. He said no, i just misspelled his name. Thats all. Definitely a point there because mcdonnell has said he took the loan because he thought williams was a personal friend. Ill have more coming up at 5 00 as the testimony continues and crossexamination continues. Mike . Thanks, peggy, peggy fox live in richmond.
