In upper marlboro, a pedestrian is dead after being struck by a Prince Georges County county transit bus. It happened at the intersection of main and water streets. Authorities say the victim somehow became stuck under the bus. Police are on the scene investigating. Drivers should avoid this area of main and water streets in Prince Georges County. Prince georges county detectives are still on the scene of a very disturbing murder. It happened inside a home in the 9900 block of chessington drive. Scott broom is live with the latest. What do you know . Reporter there are a lot of relatives of this victim standing by. I have talked to some of them. They believe it is entirely possible that this incident may have been some kind of ambush or Home Invasion conducted against a metro bus driver who was up early getting ready to go to work. The victim relatives say is a 39yearold long time metro system bus driver who would have been on his way out of the house to work at the time this happened at 5 45 a. M. The victims wife, teenage son and another teen inside the house were still in bed when the shooting happened according to the relative who said the victims wife claimed she heard men in the house shortly after being awakened by shots. The crime occurred inside the home. Reporter police here are not confirming the relatives account and not releasing the name of the victim. There were other people inside the house. Were working to determine the exact number of people inside the house at the time. This investigation is ongoing. Reporter police say they responded to a 911 call made from inside the home and when they arrived at 5 45 a. M. , the victim was dead inside the house from gunshot wounds. No suspects have been identified or arrested according to police. This incident has badly shaken people here. Weve seen relatives coming and going. Some of them in shock, in tears. The relative i spoke to says he finds it hard to believe that this was some kind of random incident. Thank you, scott. Police are looking for suspects in a shooting last night in hyattsville. Three teenage boys were approached by three men along 30th street. One of the men pulled a gun and shot two of the teenagers. The third teen got away. Both victims are being treated at a local hospital. Three shots also entered a nearby home. None of the three people inside that home were hit. Investigators just released the cause of a deadly Train Derailment in ellicott city, maryland. The National Transportation safety board says a broken rail caused the train to leave the tracks. This happened nearly two years ago. 19yearold rose mayor and elizabeth nass were killed when the 80 csx cars left the tracks. Csx knew about problems with broken rails. We evaluate these firms by surveying checkbook subscribers and Consumer Reports subscribers. We have 500,000 ratings over time with these different firms. And so thats one thing we do. But we also do undercover price shopping. So for the exact same repair, the exact same installation job, well survey the firms all the firms and compare what their prices are. How widely did the prices vary . She vary they varied pretty dramatically. To install a programmable thermostat, we found prices ranging from about 200 to about 1,000 for exactly the same job. So big differences. Is that basically the difference in the labor prices . Who knows . Really, theyre marking up the part and marking up the labor and people are not shopping. If your air conditioning unit breaks down and its 80 something degrees, youre going to want to get the best person. Does price make the difference in the quality of repair. Checkbook has found no relationship between price and quality among air conditioning contractors. We find this in a lot of Service Fields so you can actually get a very high quality firm at a very good price. Thats why we spend so much time with our undercover price shopping, et cetera, so we can identify the lower priced firms that also do very well in terms of quality. Theres some things one main thing we can do to make sure our air conditioning unit stays running properly. The big thing anybody can do is change your air filter. If you do that and most people wont need to have a maintenance contract or anything else, maybe every few years but not every year if you change the air filter.
