This was the 4th guy we know interviewed for the head coaching job. Did this come as a surprise. It didnt. Hes an offensive minded coach. Its an offensive minded league. And like my neighbor said this morning, heyings the redskins are going to the hey, the redskins are going to the super bowl now. We always say that f after that after that after the first win. Wanted offensive minded man in an offensive driven league, recognizable last name might help too. And inner personal skills desperately needed out there. Jay gruden, check check, the last one, time will tell. The redskins confirming this morning, jay gruden will become the next head coach. He spent the last season in cincinnati as the teams offensive coordinator. In that time, the bengals have gone from 20th to 10th in total offense. Thats good. He comes from a football lineage. His brother john is well known for his work of course on monday night football. A press conference is scheduled for 4 00 p. M. To introduce gruden to the media. All right, what about rgiii in all of this. He is certainly a factor. Washington hoping gruden can have the same success that he had with andy dalton. Hes credited with maximizing daltons skills and making him an impact quarterback. Griffin had a record setting rookie season, 20 touchdowns, 5 picks, then regressed this past season. The marriage between coach and arterback is the most important in football. Heres hoping these two can keep their vows. We shall see. All right. Its in the teens today, and it was in the Single Digits yesterday, so its trending in the right direction. Okay, and theyre expecting it to be in the 30s, and maybe some rain on saturday night. But, no, adam venetari snowballs this week. So whats your take, jay gruden, the head coach, washington redskins, your initial reaction. I wonder if his last name was not gruden if he would be the washington coach. Dan snider likes to get his name hires in the off season. This is the biggest name out there because of john gruden of course. Thats a question. And, you know, i heard your introduction a minute ago and you talked about how he did some fine work with andy dalton, but theres a ceiling to that. The bengals 0 and 3 in the playoffs, right. Andy dalton, major, major, major disappointment in the playoffs. And we just saw it last week. And some people are saying that the bengals are lucky that jay gruden is gone because hugh jackson, the former washington assistant who is now in line to be promoted to be offensive coordinator with the bengals will do a better job play calling. All of that remains to be seen. That is an interesting dynamic to all this. The other thing, bruce allens fingerprints, obviously, you know, bruce told us a couple weeks ago that he was in charge. He was going to make this deal for the next coach with dan sniders input. But obviously john gruden, bruce allen, a history together in tampa. Now, one last point, maybe some of the speculation or some of the questions about jay gruden and his brothers, the connection to his brother might be a bit unfair. Were going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt because he has the job now. Well see what he can do on his own. You hit a couple buzz words there, jared and i want to pick up on one of them, gruden, the last name, theres no doubt that name resonates when it comes to the nfl. Some people feel as you just said and you just talked about it a little bit, and i think its a fair point, was this search extensive enough and thats a question that jay is going to, you know, be asked as this goes on. Your take, was this extensive enough. Did they turn over enough rocks to find the right guy at redskins park. It certainly looks like it, and sometimes you never really know if people are being brought in to be interviewed as part of a legitimate search or as part of window dressing, so thats a question i really cant answer, but i can say this, when they hired Mike Shanahan a couple years ago, they interviewed jerry gray a couple minutes and he was in the building already, so this is definitely more extensive than that. And some of the people that theyve brought in, and some of the people they talked about. And im curious, though, as to, you know, whether or not they really want to give a good shot at ken wi is znaut. Jay gruden got a 5 year contract. Thats a lot for a first time head coach. Shanahan got five years, lasted four. He came with two super bowl rings. Jay gruden first time coach in the nfl. He has been successful in the afl, right, but thats a big commitment. So well see where that stands, but there was competition for jay gruden and you know what dan snider does, dave, when theres competition, he ups the anti, so im sure that factors into all of this as well. We have had some clouds and right now looking pretty good. This afternoon, you know, were already 37. So this may be closer to 40, 41, 42 in a few spots. A very comfortable afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. This evening, the clouds are going to thicken up, especially as we get toward nighttime, 11, overnight, precip will break out and were going to drop into the upper 20s to orlando 30. Precip moving in, that could be a problem in the morning. Satellite and radar pretty quiet, although you see plenty of clouds here and there. A lot of breaks. A lot of these are high thin clouds. The sun is coming through as far as a couple flurries earlier. Not really a problem right now. Temperatures, you know, theyre still below freezing and martinsburg at 30. And 40 in fredericksburg, and 37 across the bay for easton, and at the naval academy, theyre holding on at the freezing mark. Again, were looking at the very nice sunshine, but you see the hulkiness of the sky, high thin clouds. And a northeast wind at 6. A slight windchill today. 3. A lot better than where we were on tuesday when we had windchills in the mountains to 40 plus below 0. 40 minus below 0, if you will. So were watching these clouds, the high thin ones now. The bigger problem, we talked about this earlier in the broadcast is this mess of moisture headed toward nashville, through memphis with the rain and producing freezing rain across arkansas and other areas early this morning. For the afternoon or night, i should say, here we are at midnight. Were going to be cloudy. Looking at a little bit of snow possible in western maryland with a first batch of moisture. Then we get to the overnight period. 4 00 a. M. And this may be a little faster. Were going to watch because it looks like toward the rush hour, were going to see the precip move in. Were still temperatures 28, 29. 30, 31. This stuff does look light, but it takes very little ice to cause glazing to occur, and to get some very slippery conditions. Then were going to watch the moisture continue to move north and east. Will it all be gone by 10 00, i think north and west may hang on until 10 and 11. As we get into the day, this will switch over by later in the morning, anywhere north and west that hasnt. South and east, i think youre just going to be rain. If you see any ice, it will be short lived and well see the showers for friday afternoon into friday night and saturday. Some of the rain saturday could really be picking up. Maybe even a rumble of thunder as were talking about temperatures by saturday, well into the 50s. How much ice are we talking about, this is just one computer projection, but when theyre only going. 01,. 02, thats very little. Still enough to cause problems. But very little. This is is light event. Heres a look at your forecast then, today, 40ish, maybe low 40s in a few spots. A mix of sun and clouds. Tonight 30, the yellow alert to a light morning mix may start as a couple flakes in some spots and over to showers. As we head toward saturday, another yellow alert for all of the rain that were going to have because its going to be a wet day, but a much warmer day at 58 degrees. And then sunday were going to cool down some with temperature high of 50. Its still nice on monday. It is thursday and that means its time for pet line 9. Hes a 9monthold male and the reason hes here today and the reason hes so special is he is part of a bonded pair. He and his brother sammy have come in just recently. The owners had to give them up. They had to move into a home that wouldnt allow pets. I think there was maybe Health Issues that they had to move. My mom had to give up her pet, and my brother took it. And the two are bonded so thoroughly, that we are trying to keep them together. Its very very hard to place two cats, but theyre both young, both in great shape. They love each other, and whats so wonderful is they are both calm. They love to sit on laps. They love to be held. Theyre good with kids and babies and toddlers. When youre doing a bonded pair like that, did you give a break to the adoptee. They would definitely do that. Maybe two for the price of one. We are more goal on this negotiatable for these two because we want them to stay together. For the cats to sit calmly with all this going on. This is an extraordinarily well adjusted cat and his brothers just the same. Theyre friendly. Theyre wonderful. Montgomery county humane society, you guys are moving into a new place soon. If jay gruden was hired on his credentials and not his name, its a great hire. If he was hired because hes a gruden, not a good name. The biggest problem f i have had with coaches in the past here and daniel sniders hires in particular, they made their bones somewhere else, and you almost wanted to hire a star name. I think this guy should, his talent should be validated here, not somewhere else. How does this guy, mike, quiet the noise thats around redskins park . I mean, my good, its a circus atmosphere out there. He brings rosary beads. I dont know how you do it. I mean, i think in some ways, they almost want to write a letter and slip it to him on the side, and say not only do you have to repair a relationship with the quarterback, you have to repair a relationship between a team and its fan base. Washingtons a private company. But down deep, this is a civic trust, having this team, and this team people want to see it when. Last 20 1 3 seconds, whats going to be the difference.
