A curve rated only for 50 Miles Per Hour. As of now another body was recovered from the train today. That brings the death toll to seven. Eight people are still in Critical Condition from that accident. They are in philadelphia hospitals. The n. T. S. B. Says action tram train 188 was traveling in excess of 100 Miles Per Hour when it entered the curve where it derailed. Maximum authorized speed through the curve was 50 Miles Per Hour. When the engineer induced brake application was implied, the train was traveling at 106 Miles Per Hour. Reporter the trains black box has been found and is being sent to washington for more analysis. The passenger cars and locomotive will be moved to a secure location shortly. We should know i know you want to know what did the engineer have to say about what happened last night . He has not yet talked to investigators. They tell us today he lawyered up instead. Investigators hope to talk to him in coming days. In the meantime we can tell you that the federal Railroad Administration inspected the tracks recently. They found nothing at all wrong with the tracks. This goes on tonight. No defects in the tracks. We should also tell you the train has forward facing cameras, which could hold more clues about what happened. There are a lot of details developing tonight. Within the hour we learned that a former rockville resident sadly is one of those seven victims in that crash from last night. He lived in new york. He was a senior vp with wells fargo. He was 55 years old. He was in town for his uncles funeral. He was on the amtrak going back home to new york. He leaves behind a wife and two adult children. There were 200 others injuried in the crash, some far more severely than others. Several hurt are treated at Temple University hospital. Thats where we find scott broom who has been there much of the day. Reporter derek, among the many lucky ones, survivors who walked out of this hospital treated and released today was a d. C. Resident. Well talk to him in a home. Lets talk about the catastrophic injuries. What happens to your body when you are on a train that goes off the rails at 106 Miles Per Hour. A few moments ago here at the hospital we talked with a medical director, dr. Cushion. Im surprised at the number of rib injuries. That surprised me. And the relative few head injuries. I think we are fortunate there werent more deaths. The more speed the more force you got. It did not help, certainly. Reporter among the lucky survives leaving the hospital a d. C. Red, caleb bonham, a 28 yearold web editor. There is a lot of people hurting on that train. Im blessed. We were tipping. Chairs were rolling all over the place. Everything broke down in the train. Everybody on that train was helping people. There was some older people on the train that needed a lot of assistance and people stepped up. There is no doubt. There was a 20yearold from new york studying at Annapolis Naval academy passed. Today a third victim has been identified. We confirmed with his rockville family through a colleague speaking with the family. He leaves behind a wife, son and a daughter. A 55yearold wells fargo Senior Vice President is the latest victim identified in the amtrak wreck. The other victim was justin zimmer. He was a a loving son who was communityminded. C. Many people through our region deeply grieving and trying to come to terms with the tragedy. It drives home the fact that every moment is precious. We should wrap our arms around life as we have it. It was wonderful. Everybody looked up to my son. There is no other words i can say. Reporter the third victim identified as we know he was in town for his uncles funeral and headed home in new york. His family in maryland now mourning and deeply grieving. We spoke to people today who are able to find their loved ones who got off the train with injuries but they are alive. They are breathing a sigh of relief today.
