Reporter on wednesday night in northwest dc near the fannie mae building, workers leave offices to meet uberx drivers that they apparently ordered on their smart phones with the uberx. But then the district inspectors stepped in. Then when i quickly got there, they said you need to drive off before you get a ticket. And before i had driven two yards, the Police Stopped me. And they told my passenger to get out of the car. Reporter the reason why the inspectors were waiting for drivers like tommy, a stateat home dad that drives parttime for uberx was that they complained that the ride sharing drivers were becoming a nuance by trying to pick up people hailing the regular cabs. But in this case he did nothing wrong. That he picked up a passenger who ordered the ride through the uber app. The first one is 1,000 for an unlicensed dc operator. Reporter he got three tickets totaling 2,100 in fines. Several drivers received 11 tickets for illegally picking up the street hails, but they are saying its an abuse of power. This is dctc working to retribute competition and choice and working with Law Enforcement to do that, which is clearly an abuse of power. Reporter the Taxicab Commission says that the acquisitions about the sting operations are inaccurate and combative. That the Dc Council Member says that it is not illegal, but will take the legislation that shes proposing to clear up the situation for everyone.
