Appears to be kahlil tatum, African American male, tattoo on the arm, gunshot to the head, apparent suicide. It was early afternoon searchers discovered the body after five days, this fifth day of hunting in this park, but they are still looking for that body. On march 2nd he bought a shovel, garbage bags and lime according to police and then spent hours here at the park. On march 20th police say he murdered his wife and disappeared, but the police chief declines to say definitively if they have discovered his body. From everything that you could tell this could be kahlil tatum . I cant say one way or the other. Right now we know its an adult male. It appears to be a suicide. Were here obviously in a search for relisha. Reporter the chief describes a very methodical search of the 700 acres here at Kenilworth Park and aquatic gardens, aerial surveillance, infrared cameras, divers, underwater cameras, cadaver dogs, police cadets. Police chief cathy lanier was asked about the body cops found today in Kenilworth Park, well ta d. C. Police chief cathy lanier with the latest on the body found in Kenilworth Park. Some volunteers from Payne Elementary School and volunteers fromming did general shelter, volunteers as well d. C. General vetter, volunteers as well from the shelter, volunteers as well from the neighborhood and volunteers from black and missing foundation as well as off duty and retired Police Officers through the fop lodge. For all those volunteers that came out to help us, again i just spoke with them. I know this is both mentally and physically tedious work that we ask them to help us with and they did a fantastic job. So thanks to all those folks. Obviously we dont normally confirm identification until we have an official id confirmed, but i will say in this case that i will give you attempted identification on what we believe the person that we have found her based on what we have right now. So this is a tentative identification, not the official identification that will come from official medical records, but we have tentatively identified the person we found today as that of mr. Tatum. So everything that we have is consistent with what we know about his appearance and its consistent with what information that we had that brought us here to begin with. So tentatively i will say that it appears that the person that we have found here today was, in fact, mr. Tatum and it does still appear at this point that this was a suicide. So our work continues. We still have a lot to do and we are still here for the reason we came here to begin with, to look for relisha. So we will be here throughout the night doing a lot of different work and then the searches will resume again tomorrow. We still have a lot of area to search, again multiple layers of searches going on using a lot of different means to search. Its a very big area. So again thanks to all the volunteers and ill take a couple quick questions. Reporter do you know how long he has been here in the park . We dont know and that will come through the medical examiners office. That will take a little time. Reporter now that youve found him and have a tentative identification, does your search area narrow down a little bit . Are you still having the whole swath of the park . Is there more of a concentrated area . No, no. We still have the same we have a plan of how were going to search this area and why were searching the areas were searching. Were going to stick with that now. If there are things that lead to us believe we need to expand or change that direct, we will. Reporter did you find a gun . I dont want to comment on evidence at this point, but lets say were comfortable this is a suicide case. Reporter as the chief of police and mother and Law Enforcement officer for years, was this discovery while youre searching for an 8yearold girl last seen with this man, your reflections, the thoughts . I can tell you this discovery was a shock for us. We were very focused on finding relisha and thats what we came here for, but we never had any reason to believe that mr. Tatum left the area. We knew that he frequented this area, had been in this area, so thats one of the reasons we started focus here to begin with. It is a shock, but again as i said, the type of search were doing here is very draining on the people doing these searches day after day. Reporter now that you found kahlil tatum or believe you have, do you think youre any closer to finding relisha . Certainly there is a lot of things that we have to process now based on our findings today that we dont have answers on yet. We might get more answers from what we find as we process that scene, but as of right now, there is nothing new other than we believe we do have identification. Reporter is there a possibility of the community or any of the buildings . Our search is pretty exhaustive. Were still asking for the publics assistance. We are still getting quite a few tips and leads in, getting calls every day. We have to continue to keep the investigation part of this active and we still have to keep our Community Members doing what theyve been doing, and that is if they think theyve seen relisha or something important to this investigation, to call us. Reporter did you know in your search last week, been sea so theres a couple ways. Its a difficult way to answer this question, but because we tried to start searches in areas where the highest probabilities of finding something and we tried to use layers of different means for searching from air and the use of the fleer to the areas of the water we searched, divers, cameras, robots. We have been in this area with several layers of the search. I cant specificically comment about when and if they were inside this building at this point, but we have just about every area of the 700 acres has been hit by one level. The body found in Kenilworth Park was that every day, more than 155,000 customer owners m,groo eat, live, work, and play with reliable power from novec.
