They officially announced just yesterday. But they have been looking into Police Policy in Baltimore City since october. Residents telling them this is a state of emergency. We want answers, justice. We want them to be charged. Reporter Police Released the names of the officers involved including 18year veteran lieutenant brian rice who initiated the arrest. Within an hour of the arrest, the 25yearold was hooked up to tubes lying in a coma. He died of a severe spinal injury a week late gler how does a healthy guy get arrested for nothing end up with an 80 severed spinal cord and broken neck . How does that happen . I will ensure that we hold the right people accountable. Reporter while the department of justice investigation will take some time, Baltimore CityPolice Promise their investigation will wrap up may 1. They will hand their results over to the States Attorneys Office and they will decide whether or not to press charges on the Six Police Officers who are now suspended. A Prince Georges CountyPolice Officer facing misconduct charges is expected to go on trial today. Officer jerry thomas is accused of punching a handcuffed 15 yearold inside a jail cell. Prosecutors say Surveillance Video caught him in the act. The alleged assault happened in november 2012. A Fairfax County fan has reached a settlement with police in the death of john geer. The familys wrongful death lawsuit has been settled for nearly three million. Niki burr diana is live near the Fairfax County courthouse with a look at the settlement which the family says doesnt make up for what happened. The family says this settlement is a big step in the right direction, but its just that. Its just a step and they still have a long way to go. Now yesterday the geer family reached this nearly three Million Dollar settlement with the Fairfax County board of supervisors. That money will help geers two teenage daughters. It will get them through college but it does not bring back their dad. John geer was shot and killed by Fairfax CountyPolice Officer adam torres in august 2013. He was shot in front of his home in springfield after a standoff with police when officer torres says he saw geer reach for his waist band. His fellow officers on the scene, however, say they did not see that. In addition to the wrongful death lawsuit, geers death prompted the organization of a Police Review board in Fairfax County and yesterday we heard from geers father about that settlement and about whats next. Its another step in the right direction. Over the last few months weve begun to see some action as far as johns death is concerned. We went along for 17 months without hearing a word from anybody or anything. Finally were getting some action and this is just in my opinion another step in the right direction. But we still got a long ways to go. Reporter the shooting itself is still under investigation, but prosecutors have not said whether or not criminal charges will be filed against officer torres, but coming up at 6 30, hear what john geers father says should be done with adam torres salary. Farmers in the midwest are struggling to contain the biggest outbreak of bird flu this country has seen in three decades. The highly infectious virus which has hit egg and poultry producers in at least 13 states. Experts believe its spreading from state to state by migrating flocks of wild ducks and geese. We have a look at how the federal government is responding to the outbreak. Reporter good morning. The government is working on a possible vaccine right now to fight this bird flu outbreak. The news comes as additional cases of h5n2 were confirmed at turkey farms in minnesota and south dakota. More than two million turkeys have been affected in minnesota alone. Lawmakers there just approved nearly 900 900,000 900,000 in emergency funding to contain the outbreak. The largest single outbreak of flu has been at a farm in iowa. Crews there have begun euthanizing about 3. 8 million hens. The strain can kill a flock of birds it less than 48 hours. Experts say there is little threat to humans. Others are more concerned about the economic impact. You would have to have contact with basically poultry in a market, a live poultry market. That would not be a concern for somebody eating an egg. A lot are from around the country who have come in to join in the fight for justice. But a lot of the protesters are the same people who were in that west baltimore naikdz who grabbed their neighborhood who grabbed their cell phone and started to record video. Some of this new video that were about to show you shows what happened after the arrest. Reporter protesters cry out in anguish and frustration in the streets of baltimore. Freddie gray cried out, too, in pain as he was being dragged to a police van after his arrest. His limp legs dangling behind him and now new cell phone video obtained by wjz shows officers removing the 25year old from that van to shackle his legs. During the halfhour trip to the Police Station. I want murder for all six of them because there was no history or record of him having any spinal injuries. All Six Police Officers cant say what happened. The mayor has acknowledged in the press that he called for media immediate medical attention and nobody gave it to him. Early on i could say with certainty that we have no physical, video or any other evidence of an altercation that would have resulted in this. So the question is how and why. They say thats not enough, but its not more money that they want. Its justice. This lawsuit was settled yesterday with the Fairfax County board of supervisors. Geer was shot and killed by Fairfax CountyPolice Officer adam torres in august 2013 outside his springfield hope. Officer torres at the time said he saw geer reach for his waist band and thats when he fired. His fellow officers who were there for the standoff said they did not see that. It took another hour to get inside geers home but by then he was dead. His death has prompted a Police Review board and yesterday we caught up with geers dad. Adam torres is still on the Police Payroll and my money is still paying for his salary. So thats not the most pleasant thing to think about, but thats the way things are. Four Anne Arundel County detention officers are accused of smuggling contake band to inmates contra band to inmates. All four were arrested yesterday in annapolis. Investigators say the contra band included fast food, cigarettes and a cell phone. Montgomery county executive ike leggett plans to sign six bills into law today. Enterprise is going to provide its Car Sharing Service at 125 metroowned Parking Spaces at 45 different rail stations starting june 1. Metro says it will benefit from the revenue generated through the fiveyear contract they signed. Nearly one million trek bikes are being recalled. Most of the bikes were sold here in the united states. Three accidents were reported so far, including one that left a rider paralyzed. A release lever on the front wheel hub can come in contact with the brake assembly. If that happens, the wheel can instantly stop or even come off the bike.
