A block hawk military chopper has crashed in southern maryland. There were three people on board. The blackhawk crashed near a golf course in leonardtown. Scott broom is live near the scene. What are you hearing . Reporter breton Bay Golf Course is where i am. The blackhawk came down on the second fairway behind me here about 1 30 this afternoon. This helicopter on the ground was one of the three helicopters in a flight together. It was pree Potomac River when the helicopter in the rear of this formation of three Army Blackhawks appeared to be having some kind of mechanical issues. One witness i talked to said parts literally fell off the aircraft before the crash happened. At 1 30 this afternoon. Army officials confirm that this flight of three helicopters left a base. They have said little else about this incident. And they have not confirmed the injuries or any other potential issues with the crew on board. We talked to a number of witnesses here. Youre about to look at some witness statements. One from a woman who facebook lived a portion of this and the second from a worker, he and his brother raced to try to help. Army has confirmed that this is a helicopter that was based at fort belvoir. Two people were taken from the scene. The army has not provided us that was on board that blackhawk helicopter. You may have seen from some of the pictures it appeared this helicopter had big outboard fuel tanks. We know those are used for extended flights. We do not know the mission the helicopters were on. What witnesses describe as a flight of three Army Black Hawks moving in this direction, which is generally down the Potomac River towards the chesapeake bay. The two children came out of the home and the boy saw them being carried by a police officer. When they were carried out on the shoulders i just thought it would be crazy if Something Like that would happen to me and how traumatic it would be. The man kept going in and out of the house and the last time he came out they tasered him. Took him into custody in order to get him treatment. I feel bad to do Something Like that. A minnesota family spent that day celebrating their son. Two years ago little william venner fell into a fire pit and ever since hes been on a slow road to recovery. The familys message of hope. Reporter intervng yearold is rarely easy. I can do this. But frankly its a relief to see william venner bouncing off the backyard walls when you consider where he was when we met him. It is a very harsh and sad reality. William was 4, blowing bubbles in his dads backyard when he fell face first into a fire pit. His 6yearold brother dragged him out by the back of his pants. William suffered second and thirddegree burns over half of his body. At the time his mom feared for his future. Is he going to think hes ugly. Are people going to pick on him. But now. I would say better by a lot. Especially on days like easter. Easter bunny. Danielle is relishing her energetic boy. You appreciate things more. You value time differently. Thats not to say the last two years havent been a struggle. One minute he could be proud and hes this super william and then theres other moments where hes mom im different, yoow shes concentrating on teaching him to love himself. This is new video we just got in of the wreckage and what the military is describing as a hard landing on a golf course. Three people were on board the u. S. Army chopper on a Training Exercise out of fort belvoir. One person is dead this evening. The two others suffered critical injuries. A witness says the helicopter was flying kind of low and then he saw it spinning before it went down. The crash happened at the breton bay golf and country club. Well the headlines for me is the number of people who live around here and there are a number of people on the golf course and at job sites nearby. They went racing to try to help when this helicopter came down at 1 30 this afternoon. My brother was helping a bunch of people. They were trying to get the people free. And they were actually trying to lift parts of it up. You couldnt. We saw the helicopter. When we realized it was out of couple of seconds just went down. Hit a huge pine tree on its way down. Thank god nobody was in the area. There was, but nobody i dont know if there was golfers out there, you know what im saying . But nobody got hurt. Except for the people on the helicopter. Reporter some witnesses said the helicopter that crashed was flying in a formation with two other helicopters. The helicopter in the rear looked to be in trouble, according to one witness who said he saw parts fall from the aircraft before it appeared the pilot tried to make some kind of Emergency Landing on the breton Bay Golf Course. The black hawk with the three on board was flying on a mission from fort belvoir, virginia. The army has not said what the mission was. An army of bystanders rushed to help the three on board.
