Organizers of januarys womens march are urging women to not work, avoid shopping and with the exception of women and minorityowned Small Businesses and to wear red and attend rallies. If tomorrow is anything like the march, thousands of women will be making the impact. Heres why one local woman is taking tomorrow off. Tomorrow i asked for a day off. Tomorrow i am participating in a day without a woman. Its a follow up action from the womens march which took place in january, the day after inauguration day. I want to show solidarity with other women. You see a bunch of people gathered outside the white me. When we talk about womens rights were talking about everybodies rights. In my position i am privileged. I am able to take this day off and i know that a lot of women while they might like to participate will not be able to. If you cant take the day off, which i understand a lot of people cant, another way you can participate is to wear red in solidarity. As part of the day off i plan to write letters to my representatives. Call them. Very important to me and other people who participated in the march that it was not a one event thing. That its something thats continuing. That were going to continue working on. Its not just showing up for one day. Were committed to making change. Members of the Trump Administration are defending their new plan to replace obamacare. House lawmakers began today. Called the American Healthcare act. It repeals the individual mandate, maintains coverage for preexisting conditions, allows children to stay put on their parents plans until 26. That measure would offer individuals refundable tax credits to Purchase Health insurance. It also includes a provision to strip all federal funding for planned parenthood. Speaking in washington, health and Human Services secretary dr. Tom price stressed this measure is still a work in progress. Not all republicans are on board. Basically theyre leaving taxes, theyre leaving subsidies and a form of an individual mandate. That sounds like obamacare lite to me. President trump says he is proud to support the plan and he hopes that passes quickly. Theres some Big Questions about changes in the coverage and the cost and tonight we are hearing your concerns. We call it our city your voice and pete opponents are calling this trump care. A congressional budget analysis has not been released. The gop is pushing this without saying how much this will cost you. Still coming back. Sidelined by a stroke in 2009. Hes been on medicaid thanks to obamacare. Not going to change much. Theyll make the parameters. Make it look like he did something. In the long run i think its going to look the same. Thats the hope of some 20 million americans who gained coverage since the law was signed in 2010. Its still unclear how many could lose coverage under the gop version and what itll cost them. President trump insists costs will go down. I think really that were going to have something thats going to be much more understood and much more popular than people can even imagine. On our facebook you ask simply whats the purpose of changing the law. Republicans have removed whats called the individual that means you must be insured or face a tax penalty. Republicans want to end obamacares requirements on businesses. Right now even small employers must give insurance to full time employees. The umtrp Administration Says even more changes are coming in two more bills. We believe strongly that through this whole process and as it takes effect that well see a decrease in not only the premiums that individuals will see but a decrease in the cost of healthcare for folks. I think theyre going to tweak it. In the end i dont think its going to change a whole lot. Reporter this is being described as a repeal or an undoing of obamacare. Its not. That would need extra support in the senate. This maneuver only requires a simple majority. Pete muntean. All day getting answers for everybody. Thanks so much. If you have questions about this healthcare bill, head over to our wusa9 facebook page. We will try talking about the possibility of snow on the way for the weekend.
