Meanwhile, congresswoman edwards calling for a sweeping independent investigation today with the crisis of confidence going on with the board of education, she wants parents who think their kids may have been abused while attending head start, she wants those parents to come forward right away. So we can get to bottom of this. Edwards issued a statement saying incidents such as these do not exist in a vacuum. They are indicative of the break down with the leadership chain that has in danger. This after the board of education met in private yesterday to decide not to appeal a federal decision to take the Head Start Program away from the School System. Now a denverbased contractor is take over head start in the county. For the moment, teachers will remain employees of the School System but that could change. And ed wars is asking families who suspect kids were abused to step up, echoing the same appeal from the board of education member. If there are cases that have not been reported, i would and all parents to Contact Child Protective Services immediately. We must begin to break the culture of silence. And unless people have courage enough to come forward, this will continue to happen. We want these incidents to stop. We need everyone who knows anything to come forward and report. It is clear to me that our Board Leadership knew about the incidents early on and did to the board which limited our ability to provide oversight. That is the sentence that the jury recommended for the defendant and the judge said this crime was so callous, so cruel, so brutal and premeditated, he saw no reason to reduce sentencing guidelines called for far, far less. The police video gives you some sense of the bizarre nature of this crime. When Fairfax County police finally captured him and his wife in their getaway car. He was wearing only a diaper. He was a former army judge. He invaded the home in 2014. Looking for money and revenge. He had just fired her from his highpowered law firm. He hopped up on medications for back pain and depression slashed her throat and shot and stabbed his wife. Prosecutors say his plan was to leave two dead bodies and a burned down house. But his wife was able to punch a panic alarm. The community spoke on the crime. The Guidelines Court today, the commonwealth felt in this case were not appropriate. Reporter on the advise of his lawyers, he declined to plea for mercy. The judge said but for the miraculous work of doctors at the hospital, he and his wife would have died. But he says they have been left with permanent physical and emotional injuries. And he says he saw no basis or good reason to reduce the jurys sentence that will see him locked up for the rest of his life. Now his lawyer asked the judge to reduce the sentence to the 29 years which is the maximum recommended under the sentencing guidelines.
