Neither the mayor nor Police Commissioner used the word ferguson but part of the press conference, just wrapped up about 10 minutes ago was focused on trying to keep the city calm. There are more protests scheduled for tonight in the wake of this death and the day began with protests on the streets as well. Hands up, dont shoot. The day began here with a loosely organized protest that moved between Baltimore City hall and Police Headquarters where anger boiled over. If the camera isnt on, then they can do anything. Just a portion of the encounter between freddie gray and police was caught on bystanders cell phones. Arresting officers claimed gray was taken in to custody without force or incident and the report claimed he suffered a medical emergency while he was being transported. He died sunday, seven days after the arrest. 80 of his spinal cord had been severed according to his familys lawyer. One witness is blind but said he heard the encounter word for word. I heard this boy hollering and screaming get off of me, get off of me, youre hurting my neck get your knee off my back. Reporter its covered by three operated security cameras. Residents angry the video was not released till now. There had to be a young Police Officer who got shot, that videotape would have been shown multiple times. That was released about 15 minutes ago and frankly it does not appear to show much. A Deputy Commissioner stood before reporters and said according to some accounts of what police have seen, it did not appear that their officers were enraged. He said that they were calm. So you just reported on the timeline. Theyre looking for the end of an investigation this friday next and then the results of that investigation would go to the states attorney here in baltimore. He said he does not regret jumping over the fence but he wouldnt clarify why. He did not say how long he was planning it. He actually commended secret Service Agents by saying they were pretty quick to get him and they were good at what they did. I asked if this was an attempt to be a copycat. The fbi and Justice Department are admitting tonight nearly every laboratory examiner exaggerated conclusions from microscopic hair analysis was which was widely used for decades to convict hundreds of people of crimes like rape and murder. Reporter at 57, Cleveland Wright of dc wants to know where to turn to get half his life back. He spent 28 years in prison. Falsely convicted of murder after an examiner testified a hair in a stocking cap tied him to the murder scene. If people look in to these cases, not only mine other people in the same situation that im in. Reporter an investigation by the Innocence Project and the National Association of criminal defense lawyers found that over 30 years there were 268 cases where fbi hair analysis led to convictions. In 96 of those cases, there was flawed testimony. Judges sent 18 confidence to death row. A dozen were executed. It feels like i was living in horror. Reporter a judge exonerated kevin martyr on rape and murder after he spent 25 years in prison. His lawyer says the fbi admitted overstating the hair analysis. Pubic hair found at the scene was consistent with martins which means its consistent with every African American male in this city. I can never get that back. I feel like i missed out on a lot. The fbi says its committed to notify defendants of past erroneous testimony and to continue its review of trial transcripts to figure out who said what. The cofounder of the Innocence Project calls this an epic miscarriage of justice and he says lawmakers need to do much more to make sure nothing like this can ever happen again. And the fbi lab still uses hair analysis but it now does it in conjunction with dna tests. The building where a mentally ill contractor went on a shooting rampage at the navy yard is back in business. Sheriff glen says two other deputies in this sting have been reassigned after receiving threats. They could face disciplinary action. It was 16 years ago today that two students gunned down 12 classmates and a teacher at Columbine High School in colorado. The columbine massacre is one of the Deadliest School shootings in our history. And just five years ago today the deep Water Horizon Oil rig and the gulf exploded, killing 11 workers. Hearings get underway this week to determine whether John Hinckley will receive more freedom. When workers click they could be download ing malware that lets hackers in to the companys network. Hundreds of corporations hired brandy moore and her company to stop these attacks by stopping employees from clicking. We walk the employees through what they should have seen. For example hey sign up for a free coffee. Reporter the offer comes from a fictional account outside the company. Moore says that should make employees suspicious. Those who fall for the email are taken to a page and asked for their password. Workers who enter it get a warning like this, telling them what they did wrong and how to spot fishing emails in the future. Our goal is once they fall for it, just offer them a bite sized nugget of information. If the employee hits the link to find out more, once again a training page pops up. Fish mes ceo says the fake emails do have an effect. Were actually finding folks that receive these emails when theyre aware report them in a timely manner to their security teams. For Navy Lacrosse theres a little more pep in their practice step after beating their biggest rival army. The celebration was much earned after the midshipmen beat the black knights 107 in a game that earned them a share of the regular season Patriot League title and ended armys sixgame win streak. It was a great feeling to finally piece together a somewhat complete game and beat army after six years is just amazing. Cant really cribe describe it in words. You come to beat army, to play in the big time games and to get this type of win for everybody involved. Reporter the army games thats in the past. A new study from Ohio State University shows dogs cats, reptiles and amphibians can pass salmonella, c diff resistant bacteria and round worm and hook worm. It happens through bites scratches, and saliva and when owners clean up after their pets. Its passed through the feces of the pet and the people eventually get that poop in to their mouth. Reporter while most pets have low risk of infection the most vulnerable includes seniors, young children, pregnant women and people with weak immunity. He says owners need to wash their hands after handling their pets. Those at an increased risk should discourage face licking. Pets whether it be dogs or cats or other animals carry a lot of different organisms in their mouth just like people.
