We spoke to the fraternal order of Police President who said officer rabains dash cam not working was unfortunate and tragic but it does not lead to concern over officers safety in the county. Its one of the reasons the police have the cameras and sadly today they have bunting outside of Police Headquarters and theyre still searching for the driver of a minivan and passengers on a bus they say may sl also witnessed this fatal crash. They say any information they need at all trying to pete together how this young officer lost his life. Reporter police still believe the driver of this minivan and possible passengers could provide Key Information that would explain what happened at around 3 30 saturday morning that ended in the death of 26yearold officer brennan rabain. Since saturdays fatal Accident Police did get a chance to interview officer rabains girlfriend who was also in the cruiser at the time. She was so distraught, police say she was hospitalized right after. Chef chief telling us us the closest thing we could get from her a vehicle was at a high rate of speed. The officer made a statement this guy is going to kill someone. Reporter it wasnt clear from the video if officer rabain was in a traffic pursuit but he flashed his lights on. If its a speeding vehicle sometimes youll hit your lights to slow them down a little bit. Reporter without witnesses they just dont know because the dash cam on his 2006 cruiser was not working. No working dash cam is not a violation of any policy. This has been to the camera shop. We have the records where its been inspected. Theres no wrongdoing there at all. Reporter i asked this because as other news outlets have reported, this is not the first time Prince Georges CountyPolice Cameras malfunctioned during a critical time. The department of justice mandated the use of dash cams but ended their oversight on the Prince Georges CountyPolice Department around four years ago. Jones tells me those issues are not a concern now. What he is concerned about is the officers family and the department moving forward.
