Corps, but just as they were about to step off the bus someone said halt, stop what youre doing. Get back on the bus. They warned up to stay away from the media, but obviously that didnt work. Reporter a couple of relieved marine corps colonels after a four hour ordeal alerted by the pentagon Emergency Operation center. Dozens of police and Public Health workers surrounded the bus and questioned the driver and 21 passengers one after the other. At first it was it seemed like an overreaction. The more i thought about it im like this is important. Lets determine if anybody had any physical contact with the passenger in question. Reporter it turned out no one had. The woman had been on the bus only briefly, used the restroom and then got off and was sick in the pentagon parking lot. Rescue workers say she told them she had recently traveled to sierra leone at the heart of the ebola outbreak. I would say this im concerned about her health to see how shes going to be. Im less concerned about our health because none of us had any close contact. Reporter it took hours for Health Officials to question each passenger, get Contact Information and instruct them to monitor themselves for fehr. Monitor for fever. For my own expertise we consider this a very low risk case. Reporter the driver and passengers were all released just in time to make it to the new commandants celebration and reception. Missed the ceremony unfortunately, but i guess its better to have a safe and healthy public. Reporter now the d. C. Health director says if they do decide to conduct this ebola test on this woman, the results should come back in about six hours. If those results are negative, then those passengers on the bus, the driver, they can all stop this selfmonitoring. Of course, if the results come back positive that the woman does have ebola, the Health Director says they will continue putting those passengers on selfmonitoring, but theyre going to change some of the protocols in that if they have even the slightest fever, then they need to alert the authorities. We are just hearing that the woman taken to the hospital does not, does not have ebola. So i know that will hopefully give people a bit of relief. Reporter thats good news for everybody. Absolutely. I was going to ask you if the pentagon may need to decontaminate the bus, but that may not be a factor at this point. The latest is the patient that weve been telling you about apparently does not, not have ebola. Nina pham is now at the National Institutes of health in bethesda getting the Critical Care she needs after contracting the ebola virus in dallas. She arrived late last night and she is one of two nurses who cared for the first ebola patient, Thomas Duncan, who passed away last week. Surae chinn now live at nih. What did the Health Officials have to say about how pham is doing today . Reporter nina pham is in fair condition tonight. Doctors say she is tired, but she is sitting up. Shes eating and nurses they say are keeping her in great spirits right now. She is receiving some of the best care you could possibly have here at nih, the Worlds Largest hospital dedicated to clinical research. Parents call this the hope, the house of hope, and nursings say theres no other hospital like nurses say theres no other hospital like it. Our main concern is the health and recovery of nina. Reporter nina pham is inside nihs clinical studies unit that can hold up to two ebola patients. Shes receiving around the clock care from highly trained and experienced doctors and nurses. She will be seen by 10 nurses a day who work in 12 hour shifts. We have intensivists and Infectious Diseases experts who on a daily basis take care of the sickest possible patients. Reporter before coming here she and her doctor in dallas released this youtube video. Im very proud of you. Reporter pham left dallas and took a chartered flight to frederick, maryland. With assistance she walked up the plane in full protective gear and arrived at nih close to midnight. She had a long trip that was quite tiring. We assisted her. She was in a stretcher with a tent over it. Its the kind of thing that is optimal protect for the people in the ambulance and we had with her one of our intensive care physicians dressed in the appropriate protective equipment which brought her out. Shes resting comfortably interacting with the staff. Shes eating and she is able to interact freely and really think shes doing quite well. Is in a virus that really wreaks havoc on you. You could come in and be Getting Better and you could have decrease in dereya and decrease in diarrhea and decrease in vomiting, but youre still very, very tired. This virus knocks you out. Reporter the director said pham will be here for the foreseeable future until he believes she is well and clears the virus. We fully intend to have this patient walk out of this hospital and well do everything we can to make that happen. Reporter there is no cure for ebola, so her treatment includes some of the symptoms, theyre treating her symptoms instead of actually the ebola they say, but those treatments could include experimental drugs. They have not said if they have used any of that, but anything is on the table. Meanwhile since this is a Research Hospital they say no one here, pham nor her family while they say here, will pay a dime. I also want to add they have given her blood plasma from the first u. S. Doctor known to have contracted ebola and survived. So well see how this is going as the days go on. Back to you. A lot of folks pulling for ms. Pham. Im sure her dog is as well. The dog is still in quarantine, though, but doctors so far say bentley seems to be fine. Hes been moved to a homelike atmosphere where his caretakers who dubbed themselves the b team are taking pictures and sending progress reports. Health officials have bently in quarantine out of an abundance of caution because were not even sure if dogs can transmit the virus to humans. Now more on the woman who got sick in the pentagon parking lot, we told you that she does not have ebola. In fact, medical authorities used the word confident that she does not have ebola. Arlington county Fire DepartmentEmergency Medical Services obviously doing her to Fairfax Inova today and put all of their Emergency Operations in place, but they are beginning to break that all down now. We noticed she was tested for the virus and those tests would take about six hours, dont know whether that was complete or not, but they also talk about other things like questioning of the medical staff. Medical authorities are confident she does not have the virus. They have taken all the necessary precautions, but they didnt say definitely they had the test results, but i think it was a combination of symptoms according to this that makes them sure she does not have ebola. A lot of people relieved, not the least of them hear. And all those folks on the bus, of course, too. There is a second nurse who does have ebola who remains in stable condition tonight at Emory University hospital in atlanta. Officials are still investigating when amber vinson first started showing symptoms. It could have been as early as last friday. The dallas nurse called the cdc before she boarded a commercial flight on monday from cleveland to dallas. Vinsons uncle spoke with cnn saying she was already in ohio when the first nurse, nina pham, started showing symptoms. I guess the Health Official in texas started to reach out to other nurses who were a part of that care team. When someone followed up with her monday when she was getting ready to fly, she reported what her temperature was and that she was on a return flight that afternoon and so someone in texas said wait, let me check and made several calls to the cdc. Vinson was in ohio planning her wedding. With growing criticism of the government response president obama has named a new point person on ebola. What we were looking for is not an ebola expert but rather an an implementation expert. Ron clain is the man he picked to streamline the process and calm fears across the country. Hes expected to be in the role at least five or six months. Today marylands governor Martin Omalley addressed the ebola crisis. He said there are four key steps that need to be taken to stop the spread. To identify as quickly as we can any cases, to isolate those cases, to treat those cases and especially to contain e thos cases so that others are not infected. All of our Law Enforcement personnel now have personal protective equipment so in the event that they are called to a place that requires the use of that personal protective equipment, thats something they have today that they did not have 15 years ago. Omalley says nih invested in a Baltimore Company known as perfectus that is working on a ebola vaccine. Natalita davis of sterling is charged with five felonies and investigators are trying to figure out if there are other victims. This is not the first time davis has been charged with sex crimes. According to newly released court documents, Barry Freundel used a video camera disguised as a clock radio to watch the women undress. Apparently an i. T. Well come back and talk about gonzalo and our weekend forecast. You got that right and its hawaii, too. Tropical trouble times two because Tropical Storm anna is headed that way. Well talk about it coming up. Reporter im Investigative Reporter russ ptacek, a frozen yogurt store in the have you seen the news about Barbara Comstock . First, the Washington Post reported, Barbara Comstock failed to report eightyfive thousand in income. Now, we learn, Barbara Comstock pushed a clients issues in the Virginia Legislature and didnt disclose it. Barbara comstock shepherded a trio of bills through the legislature and into law, but Barbara Comstock never officially disclosed that all the while she was being paid thousands of dollars. No wonder she hid it. Storm threat is underway now on the hawaiian islands. Tropical storm anna is closing in on them and volunteer Response Teams are going door to door on the big island warning residents about possible high surf and storm surges. Forecasters predict as much as a foot of rain could fall tonight and that could cause life threatening flash floods not to mention mudslides. And People Living in bermuda are feeling the effects of hurricane gonzalo. This view from space shows the enormous breadth of the category 3 storm packing sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. People living on the tiny island territory have been boarding up their homes for days. Bermuda isnt half the size of washington and it is still trying to rebuild from Tropical Storm fay which paid a visit earlier this week. Forecasters say gonzalo is packing an Even Stronger punch. Expecting some Long Duration power outages, structural damage and bermuda is a fairly hilly island meaning some of those winds could increase as they move over the higher elevations. It could hit us right on the nose and be as bad, if not worse than fay. The storm that hit bermuda in 2003 killed four people. People in low lying areas are told to head to higher ground. Its not entirely unusual to have a hurricane this time of year. This is live video now from bermuda where you can see at least the rain coming down there. Top, how big will the waves be there . They have 40foot waves just offshore right now and you mentioned they got hit last week. They havent really rebuilt since fabian in 2003. Theyre on island time seriously and this is going to be a big time storm for them, talking a major life threatening storm surge from the National Hurricane center. Winds are down to 115 miles per hour, but its still a major hurricane. Is the water going to be significant as well, the rain . Well, the rain will be probably 4 to 8 inches, but the surge is the big deal. We have a graphic of the wave height. You look at the red, this is a 40foot wave. See bermuda there . You see the red a little bit south . Those are 40foot waves. The orange is like a 35foot wave. So theyre just offshore. The problem is this storm itself kind of tracked just to the west or left of bermuda. That puts the highest winds and highest rains and highest waves rather right over the islands. Bermuda is a series of 22 islands. I know we call it one, but its 22. Winds are about 115 miles per hour. Its moving northeast at 16. Gusts are still 150. A lot of stuff in bermuda is made of concrete, so its actually pretty strong structures, but still this is a huge hurricane.
