Researchers in louisiana found diabetic women have an increased risk of stroke especially women 55 years and older. Doctors say part of the reason may be women with diabetes have significantly higher Blood Pressure and levels of lip bids than men. A new study finds firefighters who died of heart attacks and strokes while they were on the job were most often doing vigorous physical activity right before that attack. Researchers looked at nearly 200 firefighters who died of cardiovascular problems at work. 148 happened after some vigorous akivity. In that activity. In that group 94 had high cholesterol. 93 had high Blood Pressure. The u. S. Preventive Services Task force is urging people to not take beta carotene or vitamin e supplements as the primary way to prevent cardiovascular disease. The group says bait carotene may increase the risk of lung cancer among those at risk for that disease. The task force also found vitamin e is not effective in preventing Heart Disease or cancer. Consumer advocacy groups Public Citizen is calling on the food and Drug Administration to add warning labels to mens testosterone drugs. The push for a black box warning comes as several studies determined that the hormone treatments can increase a mans risk of heart attack. However, at this point the fda hasnt confirmed those risk factors just yet. Over five million u. S. Tripses for testosterone prescriptions for testosterone products were filled last year. A warning for parents. One of the most widely used pain medications may be linked to a risk of adhd. If its taken during pregnancy, the mothers unborn child may develop the disorder later in life. Acetaminophen most widely known as tylenol is routinely prescribed by doctors for pregnant women in pain but a study out of denmark calls the longstanding practice into question. The biggest increase was among women using aseat men fiend the most acetaminophen the most often. Any medication in pregnancy is something to avoid if you can. We have to be extremely careful what we expose fetuses to. Reporter dr. Ritz says acetaminophen may cause damage by disrupting hormones critical to Fetal Development and massages and bath may be a better option for minor pain relief. You certainly should not just take a pain medication because you have maybe a slight headache. Reporter in a statement tylenol maker Johnson Johnson tells cnn tylenol has one of the most favorable safety profiles among overthecounter pain relievers. If pregnant or breast feeding, the consumer should ask a Health Professional before use. Most women in the study who took acetaminophen did not go on to have children with adhd. Experts suggest this is just one study and more Research Needs to be done and pregnant women should not replace acetaminophen with other pain medications and of course they should dock to their doctors. Again, doctors say the study should be interpreted cautiously and should not change practice. However, the findings highlight the importance of for the taking a drugs safety during pregnancy for granted.
