Metro Transit Police are searching for four men in connection with an Armed Robbery and assaulted that took place last night around 10 20 at the tenleytown au metro. Those men were caught on the metro station surveillance cameras. The victims were students leaving a basketball game at wilson high. One of the victims was pistol whipped. The robbers got both the victims cell phones. D. C. Police think a robbery suspect took his own life after a Police Shootout near the u street corridor. That man was found dead from a gunshot wound. It was close on midnight when an armed man robbed someone on riggs place. They believe the very same man robbed another person minutes later on swan street. Police tried to stop him, but the suspect ran off and then shot at police forcing a shootout. Then they found the suspects body a few blocks away on caroline street. Witnesses told them the man shot himself. Police say theres a strong possibility he was behind other recent robberies in the same area. Two jurisdictions appear to be pointing fingers at each other in how they handled a mentally ill woman who died in custody. She died after being tased by Fairfax County deputies trying to take her to alexandria where she had a warrant for assaulting a police officer. Sources say alexandria officials refused to pick her up at fairfax jail. The Fairfax County sheriff said she cant comment. It definitely is bothersome, unfortunate that people that are claiming to get information from sources that were there are providing information that there may be half truths, no truths, partial truths, but again to comment on any of that would be just ledge ledge amazing legitimizing what someone else said that may not have been there. The sheriff does admit detectives were not allowed right in after the tasing. However, they were granted access to investigate her death. On capitol hill the hearing regarding the deadly tunnel smoke incident produced several revelations. An alarm was sounding before the train left the platform. Metro failed to respond to information from a similar indent in chicago almost a decade ago. After the chicago incident the ntsb advised subways nationwide to figure out how to get people safely out of tunnels. Her body was found in a georgia landfill. President obama has made his first Public Statement about the three young muslims shot tuesday in north carolina. He said no one in america should ever be targeted because of who they are, what they look like or how they worship. However, we dont know if thats the motive behind the killing. Both the fbi and local police are investigating. The victims public say the three young people were targeted because of their muslim faith, but police think hicks shot the neighbor over a long running dispute about parking services. A former tow truck driver says hicks often called to complain about a car in his parking spot. Hicks called so much the company no longer took his complaints. It actually got to the point where he was no longer allowed to call a car in. If he called, we wouldnt go out. Hicks is charged with three counts of first degree murder and according to court records, a search of his home turned up a dozen firearms and a large cache of ammunitions. Reporter its been known a while that certain Prescription Medications and over the counter drugs can affect your memory over time, but new data shows those effects can be much stronger than once thought and have a long lasting impact. Dementia is not reversible. The only hope is to slow its progression, but Alarming Research shows many of the most commonly used prescription and over the counter drugs can raise your chances of developing dementia. Theyre a group of drugs called anti alcoholler in logics which anticholinergics which include nighttime sleeping aids, antihistamines, bladder control drugs and more. They have a long term effect. Reporter dr. Eric larson is coauthor of the study. His team followed more than 3,400 elderly people for seven years. At the beginning of the study none of them had dementia. The most disturbing thing about the new study is that it may have had a permanent effect, even after the medications were discontinued, the memory was still impacted. Reporter the risk for dementia didnt diminish. This is the part of the brain that is particularly affected by these anticholinergic drugs. Its this part of the brain here called the hippocampus. Reporter you may want to keep this in mind. I would perhaps consider stopping the over the counter medications to see if there was any benefit from continuing to take them. Reporter dr. Turner says if youre taking a Prescription Group thats in the anticholinergic group, you may want to have a conversation with your physician about risks to long term memory. Im andrea roane, wusa9.
