The epidemic has gotten so serious that children are not allowed to come and visit. Surae chinn brings us the details. Not only are some hospitals seeing a spike in the number of people with the flu walking into the emergency room, but cases continue to rise. Is getting better, but she is still real weak. She has pneumonia and the flu. Jims wife is spending her second night at Prince WilliamMedical Center because of the flu. The hospital says hundreds more with the flu are walking into the emergency room than this time last year. Because of that and the flu epidemic, visitors under the age of 18 are being kept out of their hospitals in manassas and haw market. They are asking adults if they show signs of the flu to stay away, too. The combination of more severe symptoms and coming on harder and faster than has been before, were trying to do a preemptive strike to make sure we have Good Measures in place to protect our patients. My grandkids cant see my wife because of this. They are worried about them getting sick, too, but i mean, i dont its upsetting. My wife would like to see the grandkids. But does understand the precautions. Signs are posted throughout the entrances at the hospital. There are exceptions for families who have dying loved ones. For instance, people that are severely ill or certainly end of life patients, you know, we are working very hard to accommodate families. Anoma Health Systems implemented similar restrictions for children 16 and under. Earlier this week, a fifth grader from Loudoun County died from complications of the flu. Keep them from the hospital. Yeah. Because they could have the virus. They could have caught it from school. Continue to monitor the situation and change the restrictions on an as needed basis. So far, they are seeing flu cases increase. In manassas, surae chinn, wusa9. Were told the hospital have also limited the number of visitors and the restrictions also apply to volunteers who come to the hospital. Well, not a great weekend for outdoor activity. So what can we expect for the rest of the weekend . First alert meteorologist, erica grow has some answers. Were going to see more showers just like we had today, but a big change in temperature. As we head into tomorrow. Check out the temperatures right now. Its 36 in frederic. 36 in haggerstown. 37 in martinsburg. 42 in downtown washington. So temperatures have pretty much held steady from where they were during the afternoon. You can see on doppler 9,000, this is a three hour loop. There is still plenty more rain on the way. This is what we are expecting to move through during the day on sunday. Right now, we have low cloud cover drizzle and fog in place. The visibility is down to 3 miles in warrenton, but only 1 and a quarter mile in martinsburg and half mile in hagerstown. When it gets to below 1 mile for the visibility, it makes it much more difficult to drive because you need the low beams and you have to give yourself extra time. Look at the temperature change. Than it was at this time last night, that warmer air is evicting our way. Temperatures do not fall and they will rise quickly as we head through the morning hours. 35 to 45 to start at 6 00 a. M. But well already be in the upper 40s to mid 50s by 10 00. More showers moving through. Tomorrow will be much milder, but then temperatures crash in the first alert sevenday forecast. Cars not yet ready for passengers, but one of the streetcars was in test mode when it was involved in a crash with a car. A car ran a red light along the 8th street corridor and was hit by the streetcar traveling at under 7 miles per hour. D dot says todays incident will not impact the streetcars plan opening in two weeks. Six university of maryland students are displaced after a fire damaged their offcampus rental home. Fire investigators say the Early Morning blaze caused Severe Damage to the residence. One firefighter suffered minor wrist burns and was sent to a local hospital. The students were not injured. Investigators estimate damage to the house at 200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation tonight. The first African American elected by pop you lar vote to the u. S. Senate has died. Former senator edward brook died today. Brook died of Natural Causes at his home in coral gables, florida. Republican senator was a d. C. Native and a graduate of howard and boston universities. In a statement tonight, president barack obama praised brook saying he stood at the front of the battle for civil rights and economic fairness in the u. S. Edward brook was elected to the senate back in 1966. He served two terms. For the second weekend in a row, d. C. Police responded to a nightclub stabbing close to the white house. The latest attack results in the closing of the bar for the next 96 hours, possibly longer. This comes on the heels of a violent attack at mcfaddens last weekend. Stephanie ramirez reports, there is at least one arrest tonight. Members of the metropolitan Police DepartmentsForensics Team took a redskins jacket into evidence. The scene outside the 1900 block of pennsylvania avenue early saturday surrounded by cops after police say a suspect stabbed someone inside the nightclub. Now making this the Second Attack in a row to happen inside a bar or nightclub on a saturday along pennsylvania avenue. Last saturday, five people were stabbed inside mcfaddens, shutting down the business right before a busy night new years eve. I lived in d. C. Off and on for seven years and i never felt unsafe here. Those we talked to about the stabbing tell me they are surprised. I have never felt threatened much in the city. News to me that someone was stabbed around here. Im comfortable when i get off work. The stabbing folldispute. They arrest add 35yearold from northwest d. C. But over at mcfaddens, they are on the two possible suspects. Corey tells me these incidents wont prevent him from going out, but he finds them disturbing. Its disappointing. When it hits that close to home, you are always a little disappointed by hearing that news. On pennsylvania avenue, stephanie ramirez, wusa9 news. D. C. Police released photos on friday telling us these are the two men wanted for mcfaddens multiple stabbings. Both are described as black men in their mid to late 20s. The owners appealed their Liquor License suspension. They have a hearing scheduled for january 9. A disappointing day for firefighters in italy. Fire and smoke aboard the nordic atlantic kept them from recovering more bodies today. At least 11 people died. As many as 19 still missing after a fire broke out last week. It took more than two days for greek and italian coast guards to rescue hundreds of survivors by helicopter from the burning ferry because of strong winds. The ferry was on its way from greece to italy when it caught fire. Meantime, the eight crew members from an overturned cargo ship is missing tonight off the north coast of scotland. The ferry noticed the capsized ship this afternoon and alerted the coast guards. Rescue crews and helicopters and light boats looked for the missing crew for hours and they now suspended the search for the night. The ship was bound for the west coast of england. Vacation in florida ended for tragedy for an illinois family after their small plane crashed in western kentucky. The only survivor, a young girl walked through a mile of thick woods in the dark, in rain, and freezing temperatures to report that accident. Omar has more on the child who lost her mother and father in that crash. After surviving the crash of her familys small plane, sevenyearold sailor gutzler walked nearly a mile. A little girl about seven or eight years old, standing there, blood on her face. Said mom and dad are dead. We had a plane crash. And the plane is upside down. It was cold, dark, and rainy. Wilkin says the little girl was crying wearing no shoes and only light summer clothes. She was barefooted. She had one sock on her feet and she walked all that distance barefooted. Brave little girl. Extremely. She done a hell of a job as far as im concerned. Sailors family was flying home from vacation from key west, florida, to illinois, similar to this plane. This family photo was aboard the plane last week. The father and pilot, 48year old, Marty Gutzler reported engine trouble. Just four miles from a small airport in lion county, kentucky. The crash killed gutzler, his wife kimberly, piper, and 14 yearold cousin, sierra wilder. Saylor, the lone survivor suffered a broken wrist and cuts and scratches. I just pray for her. She is going to need a lot of help. A lot of help. The caws of the crash is under investigation. Omar viafranca, cbs news. Breakthrough for search crews looking off the coast of indonesia for the black box from air asia flight 8501. Four large objects on the ocean floor belong to the downed plane. Sonar equipment located the object. The strong currents and high waves that kept dive crews from getting into the water for a look. Two u. S. Navy ships are helping in that search. The u. S. Sampson is using their sonar to listen and i wont comment as to the success of that right now. So far, 30 bodies have been recovered. Searchers are hopeful they will find more in the planes 162 passengers and crew still strapped in their seats inside the planes body. This one local City Council Member is arrested for driving offenses. Prince georges county police say elaine Scott Williams of Capital Heights, maryland, was stopped this afternoon for a minor traffic offense. Williams is a traffic member. She was pulled over this afternoon on Capital Heights boulevard. Police discovered that williams was allegedly driving on a suspended license and also wanted for failing to appear in court on previous traffic violations. The 60yearold williams was taken into custody and later released. We tried to contact the Council Member tonight, but no one has answered at her residence. D. C. s new mayor threw a party for some of the supporters today. Mayor murrell bowser hosted a childrens inaugural party. First ever inaugural kids party took place at the learning center. The new majoined young people on the dance floor and at Basketball Hoops and that ski ball games. The founder were among the adults, but thday belongs to the youngest supporters. This was really fun. I dont think anyone has ever done this before. I wanted to see the mayor because i saw her on tv and i wanted to see her in person, because i like what she was saying during the debate. Hopefully she is talking about channel 9 debate. Mayor bowser said its important to recognize the accomplishments of the citys young people every day. California man got an unusual wakeup call this morning when he heard his exgirlfriend screaming from inside his chimney. River side county police say the woman tried to get into the home where her exboyfriend and their three children lived. But when she couldnt get in, she climbed on the roof, took off her clothes and tried to go down the chimney. The woman got stuck and began screaming for help. Her exheard the screams and tried to pull her out with an extension cord before calling the fire department. I tried by myself for 20 minutes, 25 minutes, and i couldnt do it. And i almost fell from way up there. I dont know what shes doing. I dont like that. Thats not good for my kids. Sounds like a reality show. The woman was freed and taken to the hospital. Its going to turn breezy as that cold front moves in. Of course, cold front, that means colder air will arrive behind it and on monday, we crash back down. So well be about 20 degrees milder tomorrow. And then 20 degrees colder again on monday. Were still looking at a few light lingering showers until about sunset and then the clouds will start to dispate as we head into the overnight hours and much colder air rushes in. Youll see that on the feels like forecast. Its going to be mild to start the day, even early in the morning, temperatures will feel like they are in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. In the afternoon, the feels like forecast heading into the 60s for many of us, so even with that wind, its going to feel mild out there. The cold rush arrives just as you have to send the kids back to school. Out for the bus stop early monday morning, its going to feel like its in the upper teens along the mason dixon line. Hagerstown feeling like 18 degrees as you are sending kids out to the bus stop. Huge temperature swings over the next 36 hours. Cloudy with more showers tonight. 35 to 45. Some areas of fog and drizzle rsisting as well, and then sunday morning well see temperatures in the 40s and 50s with more showers. It gets much milder. A quick decent into our temperatures. Scattered somehow sheers continue, but for the most part, the rain will be diminishing as we head into the afternoon. Then monday, boy, what a change here. 40 degrees, much colder. Its going to be breezy as well. Tuesday another pocket of showers arrive, but this will be in the form of snow because it will be cold enough to support it. 38 for your afternoon high. 24 for the overnight low. And in the first alert seven day forecast, temperatures get colder than that. Wednesday and thursday, our High Temperature will be 30 degrees. That means that for two straight days, we wont get above the freezing mark. Just brutally cold out there. A slow moderation as we head into next weekend, but theres the potential for some snow showers on friday and saturday.
