Was tough on them all week and right before the game, hed go, i think youre great youre going to do well. I love what you do, i really believe in you. So right before game time, the day before, he would build them up. Care of them, they stayed in the equipment publicized his team before other people started doing it. Jim second and 10 run for five. Asiata. Phil theres quite a few things that people dont realize about Vince Lombardi and what he did. Jim how about lombardi if he was coaching in todays game, how would he fit in . Phil what do you think . What would be the first reaction, people would say theres no way, he couldnt do it. Jim definitely. Phil because of his style. Of course. Hes a people person. He knew how to touch people. And when you do that, you can coach in any era. Jim third and 5. 3 30 to play. And ponder picks up the first down with the pass to thielen for 16. Phil good throw by Christian Ponder. Good timing. Jim i notice you didnt have bill parcels on your top five. Jim thats i donm is everything ok . Phil its all great. Its just not right. I cant put all my friends on these lists. Jim so he was excluded. Friends and family are not eligible to win. Phil listen, he coached a lot like Vince Lombardi. Jim thats what i was going to say. Heres ponder. Nice pulldown for the catch. Thielen again. Phil he was as tough as they come. They came on you physically and mentally. But he would always try to pep you up before game time. Nice catch over the middle. As i always tell people, shoot, you couldnt wait for the games. That way you could get away from some of that stuff. Jim heres ponder. And down for a sixth time. Im going to bring up two more names. That was about innovators not greatest winners. Shula and landry. Phil tom landry had a lot of innovation no doubt. He started the cowboys, the up and down the offensive linemen. He brought in the extra running back and passing situation. Shotgun by roger stal back. Stallback. And john shula just the winningest coach of all time. Jim second and 11. Charles johnson thrown down. Hank scram was an innovator. He beat this Minnesota Team in super bowl iv. Tt2wut5n t q 0mulo20 tt4wut5n t r h] l xr, tt4wut5n t r iq l 1p tt4wut5n t r k]f k2l jim lacy to the end zone magnificent hes got his 100 yards and hes got the end zone 4210 romp. Packers over the vikings. Talking to a. J. Hawk leading up to this game, he talked about rodgers being the ultimate leader. And this is a team that really takes heed when he speaks up and in this case it was that very quiet mello, relax. Phil yeah. Jim since theyve kind of got that message. Look what theyve done. Phil they have. The offense has been terrific. Tonight we saw the speed of the defense. Listen Aaron Rodgers all the players know how good he is. So when he talks they listen and he does have a command about him. When youre around him you know hes the man. You can tell. Jim no question about it. Rodgers tonight only had the complete 12 passes out of 17 throws. 156 yards and the three touchdowns. Phil am i right though, you know jim there is something about him. Phil the players, yes we even heard it from the viking players. Mr. Smith the safety, said, to the young guys, listen, what you see on film, i know it looks great about. You but when youre there in person its really unbelievable. Jim you cant appreciate the throws he makes until youre out there is what he tried to tell his teammates harrison smith. So fourth down coming up. Phil but i like this about aaron. There is an edge to him. I think you understand what im saying that way. That edge is great at the quarterback position. Because it keeps his teammates on edge. Because theyre worried about sometimes his wrath as well as the coaches. Jim fourth and 4. Ponder and the offense will stay out there. Theyve got the first down to the 30 with Marqueis Gray and his first catch. Phil how about that . College quarterback. Did a little bit of everything. Built himself into a tight end. Pretty good blocker. Developing those skills. Hes going to be a pretty good tight end in this league. Jim had a little bit of time with the Cleveland Browns last year. Norv turner had a closeup view of gray. Ends up following turner to minnesota. First and 10. And the ball through the hands of gray. Christian ponder. He had just a short week to prepare for this starring role tonight. What do you think he takes out of this night . Phil it was a very short week and of course hes had limited action in practice all the way up until this week. Theres a little solace in the fact that hes played well here at the end when the game was over. I can imagine what theyre going to say in minnesota. This game, they didnt lose it just because of Christian Ponder. Thats for sure. Jim batted down to the 19 with thielen. I know one thing hes going to do because the teams going to get a few days off. Theyll be off until tuesday. Ponder gets babysitting chores this weekend. His wife, sam, the fine reporter for espn. They have a little baby. Little baby girl. 3 months old. Named for his college coach. Little sweet bowden. Phil she works hell babysit and reflect on this game and yes, it was a tough outing. But there was more than just him here. To think that they lost this game strictly because of Christian Ponder is way off base. Jim ponder almost intercepted. Breaking on that ball was Casey Hayward. The thirdyear man out of vanderbilt. Phil Casey Hayward you look at this green bay team, theyre short of players up front. But linebackers, defensive backs, they are deep. We saw that during the preseason. We thought they were going to be deep on the defensive line, but theyve had some injuries, and of course the one they lost in the third preseason game when we were here was b. J. Raji kind of unsettled them a little bit. Jim pondser. Somehow got it away to banyard. Banyard makes the catch. As ponder somehow escaped another sack. Phil really good job makes the decision hes not going to be able to make it if he tries to escape the pocket. Jim first and goal to go at the 9. To banyard. They call a timeout. Phil yeah. Jim when you think about the packers and the vikings think of all their history and the one part of it that they shared, brett favre. Two seasons with minnesota. Phil thats pretty impressive. Jim hes the last vikings quarterback to win a game at lambeau field. Back in 2009. Phil i came up here and saw brett favre throw the football many games here gosh in the history of the packers, theyll never have another guy that can throw the football like him. And jim i love what you were talking about. How you saw rodgers just trying to mimic him all those years as his understudy and learn how to throw the football in a whole new way. Phil yeah. I wonder if thats you know brett was very natural. Of course when you watch Aaron Rodgers, very natural too. Jim to the end zone and incomplete. Almost caught by chase ford. Theyre going to retire favres jersey next year in the fall of 2015. Hell be eligible for the hall of fame in 2016. Phil many throws tonight just out of the reach of these receivers. Jim i say eligible. Of course, no doubt. Phil yeah, no doubt. Jim first time ballot. Phil pretty cool them retiring his jersey. Getting back up here and reuniting with these fans once again. Jim that will be next year. Phil right. Jim third and goal, 23 seconds. Batted down. By williams. Ok, i got one for you. Two weeks ago we had the biggest blowout margin in the history of thursday night football and that precedes our time here, our short time broadcasting the thursday night games. Going back to the 2006 season, when it started. Last week was 31. Giants over the redskins. Second biggest blowout in thursday night football history. This one right here has a chance if the packers can keep them out of the end zone. To move up into the two position. Its all coming down to this. Phil that says it all. Jim im excited. Phil cant wait to see what happen ponders pass incomplete. And this one moves up to number two on the alltime thursday blowout list. We have the top three, the last three weeks. Phil here it is late in the game. Green bay says, were not going to give you that easy touchdown. And they come with the blitz. Why did mike zimmer call the timeout . Because you do it for your football team, put some extra points on the board make it look a little better and help their pride somewhat. No doubt about it, thats why he called the timeout. Jim ponder tonight 2244 for 222 yards. No touchdowns passing one on the ground. Phil this is not where this is a tough night for Christian Ponder. Teddy bridgewater, if he comes back look Christian Ponder asiata still going to be that backup quarterback vow to overcome it and get ready for your time. Because it could come again this year. Jim well, its gone final. This was 280 at halftime. 420 after three quarters. Second most points that green bay has ever scored in a game against the vikings here at lambeau. Mike zimmer and the vikings are 23. The packers at 32. And when we were here in the preseason, you thought green bay had a real chance this year to make a run at the n. F. C. Title. Phil yeah. Its early in the year but after that 12 start you start to question everything. But these last two games have been solid and very impressive, especially for the Green Bay Packers offense. Jim theyre getting set for the mazda postgame show. Theyll raise the set. Drop the curtain about three hours and 10 minutes ago thinking this one might be pretty interesting tonight but the packers way too much too early. 4210 is the final. For phil simms, Tracy Wolfson mike carey and all the crew, jim nantz saying so long from green bay. Well join the studio after this. Ah come on les s n de in the attic. No. In the basement. Why cant we just get in t inrunning car . Are you crazy . Lets hide behind the chainsaws. Smart. Ye. Ok. If ifouinre in a horror vie, you make poor decisions. Its what you do. This was a good idea. Shhhh. Be quiet. Im being quiet. Youre breathing on me if you want to save fifteen percent or more on Car Insurance you switch to geico. Its what you do. He fheor the cemetery welcome to the mazda postgame show. Jordy nelson with a 66yard wideopen touchdown grab and dash to put the packers up 140 was essentially the icing on the cake of a blowout win for the home team against the shorthanded Minnesota Vikings tonight. Certainly at the quarterback position rich deion, steve and marshall. The pregame you said eddie lacy was not running with confidence. That was a different eddie lacy we saw tonight. Whats was the differe in your estimation . Marshall it was all eddie lacy tonight. Youll get a chance to see, it wasnt just eddie lacy and his running. It was a concerted effort in how they ran. Under sent, handing the ball off. You get a cutdown on the backside. The guard moves up. His vision is clear. You put it on the ground and you get north and south. When you get eddie lacy going north and south hes going to make hay. Heres another play. You catch the backer coming in, he gets hooked. Eddie lacy finds the b gap and hes off to the races. No safety is going to bring lacy down oneonone in the open field. What they did tonight is indicative of what they need to do with their running game. Instead of out of the shotgun handing the football off lined up under center, you run away from strength, you got to see good eddie lacy tonight. Steve it was good for eddie lacy, that game plan. It was also good for Aaron Rodgers because he came out with play action pass. A lot of runs on that first drive. And then he threw the first touchdown to randall cobb very easily. And then heres what must be the first time. Yeah randall cobb in the slot. Easy touchdown. Thats becoming one of his favorite targets, along with jordy nelson. Then the play action bomb away to jordy nelson. Safeties are coming up to play the run. Youre going to get guys wide open like jordy nelson. That run game benefited aaron a aaron as well. Deion the only time weve seen Aaron Rodgers have a problem is with the two defenses, especially defense fronts, that cause them the problem. Detroit and seattle. They forced pressure, they brought pressure up the middle. He didnt have nowhere to escape. And they came to play the game and they played it well. Right now Christian Ponder, you see him under duress all game long. Pressure from the outside. Pressure up the middle. Its nothing you can do when no ones blocking up front. Rich randall cobb leads the nfl with six touchdown receptions. Aaron rodgers now has 200 in his career in just 99 games. Only dan marino did it faster than Aaron Rodgers. Another american has contracted the ebola virus while in africa and this time a journalist working for nbc news in liberia. The network said it hired the 33yearold freelance cameraman tuesday and he came down with symptoms yesterday, but hes been in liberia for three years. The nbc president said we are doing everything we can to give him the best care as possible. She said the rest of the news crew will head back to america and go straight into quarantine for 21 days out of an abundance of caution. Heres a look at the u. S. Sites cleared for treating ebola patients. Youll notice the nih in bethesda is one of the four locations. An american doctor exposed to ebola in sierra leone is under observation there. Emory university in atlanta, university of nebraska in omaha and st. Patrick hospital in missoula, montana. Tonight the ebola patient who through from liberia to belgium, then dulles to d. C. And finally to dallas is expected to Face Criminal Charges after liberian officials said he lied on an airport questionnaire about whether hed come in contact with anyone who had ebola. Now as many as 100 people in the u. S. Are being checked for possible exposure to the deadly virus after coming into contact with thomas eric duncan. Here in this liberian neighborhood where he rented a room from where a woman was dying from the virus. She was rushed to the clinic, but there was no room. Martha lane died september 16th. Sonny boy died yesterday. All passengers leaving liberia are screened for fever at the airport and required to fill out a questionnaire. Duncan checked no to the question did you stay in a house with or have any other casual contact with an ebola patient . Today liberian officials said he lied and they will prosecute him. The president said they was angry and saddened by duncan. The fact that he knew and he left the country is unpardonable quite frankly. I just hope that nobody else gets affected. Fortunately hes in the United States where medical care, you know, is very good. Meantime in dallas this afternoon parts of the complex where duncan was staying was power washed. Also one of the people quarantined at the apartment could be seen stepping out briefly to receive food delivered. A legal order threatens criminal charges if they leave or have visitors before october 19th. Duncans half brother Wilfred Smallwood said he talked with him today. When i spoke with him this morning, he sounded happy. Doctors say none of the people who came into direct or indirect contact with duncan including healthcare workers have shown any symptoms of the virus, but remember doctors say it could take up to 21 days for anyone infected to show symptoms, which is how duncan himself was able to slip into the u. S. Duncan did travel through dulles on his way to texas and as wusa9s jims on man found out, the airline took action jim osman found out, the airline took action. Reporter United Airlines had scrubbed the plane that transmitted the now known dallas ebola patient to dulles on to texas and this letter was sent to passengers who were on that flight stating the now known ebola patient took a flight from dulles to dallas fort worth. The letter said the airline wanted to insure that you were aware of this information. The disease can be transmitted when the patients body fluid, urine, vomit, blood or sweat, come in direct contact with someones broken skin or mucus membranes such as the lining of the nose, mouth or eyes. As the ebola virus spreads in the body, it attacks the immune system and causes massive inflammation that can lead to damage of the lining of blood cells and organ failure. Ebola is not spread through the air. Low risk exposure includes someone in the same household as a patient or someone who is closer than 3 feet from the patient for a prolonged period and not wearing protective clothing. Thursday Maryland Public Health officials acknowledged that what happened in texas could happen in maryland on a very limited scale. We need to be prepared for that. I think the likelihood that there would be a widespread outbreak in the United States similar to whats going on in some of the west african countries right now is very low. Thats not likely. Reporter now Maryland Public Health officials tell us that the dallas situation has taught them that communication about possible ebola patients is key. Jim osman, wusa9. D. C. Public health and state of virginia Public Health agencies are pushing medical professionals to check out their websites for detailed information regarding the ebola outbreak. A New York School district is launching an investigation into how and why a varsity Football Player died after a hit during a game last night. Dozens of grief stricken students and friends turned out for a vigil. Tom kutanelli, no. 54 for the wildcats, and his classmates are devastated. The school principal. A lot of crying, a lot of hugging, a lot of questions, a lot of shock. Theres just not enough words to describe the type of kid that this community lost. The player took a hit around 6 00 yesterday evening. He got up but then collapsed and an ambulance rushed him to a Huntington Hospital where he died in the intensive care unit following surgery. The Athletic Director will lead the investigation into his death and looking at everything from the type of hit he took to what sort of helmet and equipment he and the other players were using. A wusa9 High School Football investigation is pushing for some changes that experts say could make those student athletes safer. After Investigative Reporter russ ptacek found area schools using helmets ranking low for concussion safety, nearly every district is making some changes. Reporter this is a shut air advantage. It may look like any other helmet on the field, but it scores only two on a five star safety rating and we found helmets like this still in play in high schools all over the area. In Prince Georges County when gwynn park high hit the field this fall, their School System was still using helmets rated even lower, one star. That means marginal according to a Virginia Tech helmet study with five stars the best available at reducing concussion risk. Some families purchased their own higher rated helmets themselves because Prince Georges County wouldnt. It bothers me a lot that the schools and a lot of the other schools dont do it, but at moment we just have to deal with what we have. Reporter you bought him his own. My response as a member of the board of education is to really create a policy around this. Reporter we first identified the one rated helmets in may when our open records request reviewed inventories at all the alexandria high schools and Prince Georges County, montgomery, loudoun, fairfax and arlington counties. Washington lee is among high schools that made major changes. It and the other two Arlington County high schools retired their two, three and four star rated gear opening the season with every player in a five star helmet. Theyve been shown to be able to withstand a season and make contact and make the game safer for the players. I had a lower star two or three and i was actually very scared i was going to get a concussion. I think its great. I love feeling safe when i play. Reporter Montgomery County moved from helmets rated three to now four stars being their lowest rated helmet in play. Alexandria and Fairfax County report retiring their two and three star helmets we found in may making their lowest rated helmets now four stars for the 2014 season. Officials reported no changes for Loudoun County which has threes as its lowest rated helmets or d. C. Which still has two star gear. D. C. Issued a statement saying 83 of our helmeted rate three star or better and helmets rate three star or better and all the schools reported some five star helmets. Fairfax county said we do not use the study to guide our purchases. We follow the National Operating committee on standards for athletic equipment standards. After we mailed School Board Members throughout the area the ratings of their school only one responded saying he would call for change. You were able to bring that to our attention. Reporter shortly after School Board Member edward boroughs, iii read our letter Prince Georges County retired everyone rated helmet. Its mostly twos and right now were trying to get them all out. We should never have that. I plan to intr
