Reporter by the time this wreck was over five cars were strung out across the road mangled. Both sides of the road were shut down and nearly a dozen people were taken to the hospital. There was drag racing on the north side of 301 there. It happened so fast. Reporter lon colbert and Leonard Jones were riding in the same car when the crash happened. They were hit but not hurt. We ended up in the ditch. Luckily we were in the slow lane. The two other vehicles werent so lucky. Reporter according to victims of the crash, this black car was drag racing with another car on the northbound lanes of 301. They crossed into southbound traffic. Some of the folks inside the cars we spoke with say it was absolutely terrifying to see those two speeding cars come from one side of the road, skip the median and slam right into them. Its the worst thing ive ever been involved in. Reporter the crash was so violent one of the cars hit erupted into flames. 11 people in total were taken to area hospitals in varying conditions.
