I wonder if hell get a shot of the plans plate. I cant get over this fiat. Im calling it a fiat frenzy, mike. Or how about a francis fiat . Francis fiat. I like that. Really, a quick drive. You know what all of the kids are doing, once they stop waiving, go to their fence and start posting away on facebook, stain gram, sending that text to your mom and dad. Well, i want to see that selfie and i want to see it fast. Okay . The next time well see him, we have a camera over tewhit house, see him roll up to the white house for that ceremony there. Of course is the kind of the backyard of the white house, south lawn of the white house, where the pope should be there, in about six, seven minutes, yep, getting ready for the arrival ceremony here. And we are going to hear the president s speech as well as pope francis, hear him speak for the first time here in washington, d. C. They say will speak in english at this particular is her moan. I look at this shot. Thats magnificant. Nice little crowd out there, wait to go see pope francis. I see, still see the Vice President , his wife. Wonder they didnt carpool, since staying right across from the vatican em bass. I you know it is interesting, we talk about the dress code, mrs. Biden, and mrs. Obama, are both wearing bright colors today. Yep, interesting, because we have a family who is going to greet the pope when he arrives here on saturday morning, out at the airport, and they were instructed by the archdioces of philadelphia that you might want to wear darker clothing. Dark colors, yes. But a lot of people have Bright Clothing on today. Hey, bruce gordon, whats your Vantage Point . Whats it look like . Beautiful down here as you just mentioned, i wanted to bring up point that i think gets overlook by those of us who are so enthrawled by and excited with the papal visit. You saw him just moment ago interacting with the School Children outside the apostolic nunciature, we love the interaction, but for secret Service Folks it drives them crazy. They know it is part of the deal with this pope, that he likes to get out, mingle with the crowd, interact with people, but from security stand point dicey proposition as you might imagine. When we were in rome on two occasions for the wednesday papal audiences, he rides through the crowds in the pope mobile if you will, often leans out, it err act with people, touches people, babies are handed across the crowd for him to bless, and to kiss the foreheads, so for the. So a the love touching, real personal interaction, what he wants to do, what he likes to do, i talk to rocco pal ma, the papal chronic letter in some of the preparation stories we did for the visit. He said look, i can tell you right now he has not spoken publicly about it but i can guarantee you the pope is not thrilled with this level of security that we will see in philadelphia. Anything that keeps him separated from the people, is something that he would not agree with, but again, security has to trump everything else. You want to keep the pope safe. Everyone in the crowd safe, but those interactions with the public that we love so much are a real headache for security. Do the vatican guards travel with him . I believe they do. Although what you normally will see around him is and certainly for example, those wednesday papal audiences, at the vatican, youll see the guys in the dark suit talking into their wrists, have all of their basic secret service look about them. And the vatican guards of course in the much more colorful uniforms looking like something of several centuries ago, more of ceremonial nature, and the guys you see look more like a secret service, that we might see in our country. Interesting, i was over by the parkway yesterday, and you talk about what pope francis response will be to any we dont have just fences, we have high fences, eight to 10 feet tall, and dark colored, and i guess thats going to be the main perimeter around where the mass is, bob. Were used to the waist high metal concert style. Silver. Thats level one. And then just beyond, behind that, is fencing, youre right becomes 10 feet tall, interlocked together. Almost like a cage. If you watch wrestling, like a cage match is what it kind of reminds you. Expecting a lot more people, specking 20,000 or expect knob dc, about 80,000 in new york sit. Blue it comes to philadelphia, i mean, theyre saying it might be near 1 million. I have to tell when you he rolls down constitution avenue about 10 30, going over to Saint Matthew cathedral, i bet there is close to half Million People leaning the street. I think thats whats going to happen here in philly, the opportunity to see him go by in the pope mobile, hopefully he gets out of the fiat there, table wave everybody. And i think we have video of the pope on his way to the white house. Well show it for up. This is when he was leaving, first came out of the vatican embassy. Listen to those cheers. So the kids are going is he going to come over . Is he going over to the fiat . No, he is coming over us to, oh, my goodness, ill get to shake the hand of the pope. I didnt notice at first but along the fence a sign says jesus lovers us without lemons. Thats real special. Because the pope is showing there is no limit. Im coming across the fence, im reaching out to you, im shacking hands with you. There is no limit here. Thats why he talks so much about the doctrine, and how things are changing in the Catholic Church. Bruce, whats the plan right after saint maturation . Dosage back to rest . Brief, again, every time he moves from point a to point b, obviously some opportunity for the public along the streets to get a glimpse, at they are afternoon around 4 00 from 4 00 to around 6 00, 6 30, canonization, very special, the first time thats ever been done on us soil. So many firsts, with this pope, you mention moment ago, about the security in philadelphia, how it differs, of course, in philadelphia, this has been referred to and maybe you have heard these initials as a nssa. National special security event, usually reserve for things like inaugurations, and that casino of thing. This has been described as the biggest security event in the history of our country. Wow. Spectacular planning guess into this. At the Multi Agency Communications Center just a week or so ago. Which is one of the nerve centers, they will be taking in information from street cameras, and other sources, and relaying that information to Operations Centers around philadelphia for this visit. It is a monumental operation to keep the crowd safe, to keep the pope safe. All while allowing him to do what he want to do, which is tonight err act with people. Well, see what just said . The Biggest National security, well, organization, i mean, operation, in the history of the United States of america . Wow. And it happens in the birth place of america, right here. I was here in 79, i was at the base of the at when he they built that alter, above the fountain, the 79 visit. Pope john paul . Pope john paul ii, yes. We had to get down there early, been raining the night before. I know what folks are feeling. You just want wait you just cant wait. When zest coming aroundment corner. So i guess they would pull up in front of the white house . Probably right there. Will pull up. Opposite side and then walk through, right . On this red carpet, yes. You can see, they have the red carpet. I was going to mention that rolled out. Even yesterday when he arrived, when he got off the plane, they had red carpet rolled out for him to walk out there. And then he walk into the fiat, which everybody, of course, saw. Everybody de is her of the red carpet treatment, it is pope francis. Thats so true. You were saying, bob, talking about how you cant imagine people are feeling. I mean, we just got a tweet from one of our viewers, carol ann, watching the pope greet the children, im so tearing up, they kids are so blessed. You can only maam being there, actually get to go touch his hand or give him a hug or take a selfie. The little hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. A grow complete. I. I feel like we have been talking about this moment, gearing up for. This but to see it happen. The fact hes actually here, hes in the united state, and hes coming in a matter of days. You can just really feel it. Weve been talking about how if you have to have a ticket to get onto independence hall, have to get a ticket to go to the concert. Im telling you i think the best opportunity, if you dont have a ticket, is that parade. The papal parade on saturday that is going to take police around 4 45, 5 00, really, im serious, im thinking of putting austin on my shoulders and having the papal flag, seeing the pope mobile coming by, around city hall back up to the art museum steps. And what do you think the odds are hell walk up to you, the rocky steps . What do youy . The alter is quite a ways away from the steps. The alter is where at the base, isnt it . During the summertime, remember, they put the sand and they had the parties and that, the pop up beer garden. Thats where the alter and the canopy is set. Seeing he came out that front door, and went right to the crowd. We hope so, remember. We can stop it. Ill go up and i guarantee around the circle there, where we can stop on the steps. Talking about earlier how they made a new love sign for pope francis, tan says armor, and it is right there at the top of the steps. But i hope he at least gets to see it, thats actually a special thing. Thats nice touch. It is a nice touch. There is love here in philly of course. World meeting of families, probably came one that idea. Now, remembers g the president owe became a and the first laid toy walk out the door any second now, will the pope be with him . Do you think theyll come out together . I think so. Wouldnt it normally be the pope, i mean, the president , his wife and then the pope would come in and theyll greet them . Or do you think theyve already greeted and want it walk out together . Im not sure why there isnt a camera on the front. He is supposed to be thereby now. Should pull up in the front, right. The circle drive there, and then talk a little bit in the white house, then come out for the ceremony. Certainly the dignitaries have been waiting therefore half hour. We saw Vice President biden, john kerry, who else did you mention, you saw there . Well, ethel kennedy. Right next to john kerr. I and the fact that there is arrival ceremony is also special. This was reserved for the vip, vips, also special occasions so fact theyre having this also very nice moment. I keep flashing to the fact well be doing this, well be doing this very thing saturday morning and sunday, and hell be a block from where were sitting right now at fourth and market. Oh, exciting. Can you imagine if he, if he decides to walk up . Oh, come on. Do you and i want to be alter boys again, and walk right up market. Hey dont get me excited now. Or even still, just the the fact that we will be outside. A block away. Hes going to be at fifth and market. So we get to see all of the people coming out. You heard them earlier, chanting, singing, well all and part of that moment on saturday. When he he gets ready to do the mass at Independence Mall. By the way, good day philadelphia will be on saturday, starting at 6 00 in the morning. So thats what i am saying, outside. Here earl. I the way it will work, we will be outside, right here at fourth and market. So if you are walking to the festivities, stop and say hello to us. Apparent lip outside the window throngs of people i would imagine that early in the morning, 6 00. Walking by, maybe they come across from the bridge, maybe they took patco over so come by fourth and market, fifth and market. Were right outside that secure zone. So if you dont have a ticket, to go inside that secure zone, you can come on by and say hi us to here, well have the cameras out front, have maybe bigger television where you can maybe watch the whole you know people will be getting out there early. They want to make sure they get the good spot. You saw earlier it people waking outside, if you were there along the fence, on the front line there, youre going to get to see him. You got a shot. Might come over. And you think the first septa train rolls out 6 30, so folks coming in from the sub usual and line will be coming in at 6 30. Want to make sure to see that for sure. Oh, i just cant get over how beautiful after day it is. It really is a lovely day to have a ceremony like this outside. Here we go. We have some activity there. The guys with the giant bugles are getting ready to play. flags raised . Everybodys at attention, something is about to happen. Two guards standing in that, with the backs to us. Marines, looks like . Yes. And theyre saying with the arrival is her moanly start out with the National Anthem. Here comes the fanfare. Here we go. bugles playing ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States and mrs. Michelle obama. Darker dress. silence . Interesting, isnt it . You hear people cheering . Because they know that soon pope francis will be walking out on that red carpet. Yes, it is interesting, how will they have him appear . I guess out of the same door . Or maybe he is driving up in this circular driveway. Will we get to see the fiat again . I dont think there is a driveway in the back of the house. Is there a drive way on the south lawn . I guess they are standing on it. Here we go. bugles playing drums . There it is. There is the fiat. The francis fiat. Thats what we are calling it, right, mike . The francis fiat. Oh, man, i wish weed a microphone real close. Might be here on this. Listen in. applause . Of course they met yesterday afternoon, when the pope landed. And they spent about ten minute together before they left. Now with with him monsignor mark miles, he is the translator. Always by his side. Always by his side. N applause . Walking to the Vice President possibly . There she is. Listen to the crowd. applause cheering . Ladies and gentlemen, the National Anthem of the holy seize followed by the National Anthem of the United States. Applause. A applause. Good morning. Good morning. Beautiful day. Holy father, on behalf of michelle, and myself, welcome to the white house. I should explain that our backyard is not typically this crowded. But the size, and the spirit of todays gathering is just a small reflection of the deep devotion of some 70 million american catholics. It the reflects as well your message of love, and hope, has inspired so many people across our nation and around the world. So on behalf of the American People it is migrate honor and privilege to welcome you to the United States of america. Today we mark many firsts, your holiness you have been celebrated as the the first pope from the americas. This is your first visit to the United States. And, you are also the the first pontiff to share an cyclal inquiryam. Your visit the not only allows us in some small way to reciprocate extraordinary hospitality that you extended to me, at the vatican last year but it also reveals how much all americans from every background, and every faith, value the role that the Catholic Church playness strengthening america. For my time working in impoverished neighborhoods with the Catholic Church in chicago, to my travels as president , i have seen firsthand how every single day catholic communities, priests, nuns, layty are feeding the hungry, feeding the sick, sheltering the home less, educating our children. Fortifying the faith that sustains so many. What is true in america is true around the the world. On the busy streets of buenos aires to the remote villages in kenya, catholic organizations serve the poor, minister to prisoners, build schools, build homes, operator fan ages and hospitals. And just as the church has stood with those struggling, to break the chains of poverty the church so often has given voice and hope to those seeking to break the chains of violence and oppression. I believe the excitement around your visit holy father must be attributed not only to your role as pope but your unique qualities as a person. Your humility, your embrace, your simplicity, the the gentleness of your words, and the generosity of your spirit, we see a living example of jesuss teachings, a leader whose moral Authority Comes not just through words but also through deeds. You call on all of us, catholic, nonthe catholic alike to put belief to bes at the center of our concerns. You remind us that in the eyes of god our measure as individuals and our measure as a society is not determined by wealth, or power, or station, or celebrity, but by how well we have script tour call to lift up the poor and marginalized. To stand up for justice and against in equality and to ensure that every human being is able to live in dignity because we are all made in the image of god. You remind us that the lords most powerful message is mercy. That means welcoming the stranger with empathy and truly open heart. From the refugee who flees war torn lands to the immigrants who leave home in search of a better life. It means showing compassion and love for the marginalized and the outcasts, to those who have suffered and those who have caused suffering and seek redemption. You remind us of the cost of war particularly on the power less and the defense less, and urge us towards the imperative of peace. Holy father, we are grateful, for your in valuable support with the cuban people which holds out the promise. Which holds out promise of better relations between our countries, greater cooperation a across our hemisphere and a better life for the cuban people. We thank you for your passionate voice against the deadly conflicts that have ravaged the lives of so many men, women and children and your call for nations to resist the sirens of war and resolve disputes through diplomacy. You remind us that people are only truly free when they can practice their faith freely. Here in the United States we cherish religious liberties. It was the the basis for so much of what brought us together. And here in the United States we cherish our religious liberty but around the world at this very moment children of god, including christians are targeted, and even killed because of their faith. Believers are prevented from gathering in places of worship. The faithful are imprisoned. And churches are destroyed. So we stay with you in defense of religious freedom and inter faith dialogue knowing that people every where must be able to live out their faith free from fear and free from intimidation. Holy father, you you remine thaws we have a sacred obligation to protect our planet, gods magnificent gift to us. We support your call to all World Leaders to support the communities most vulnerable to changing climates and to come together to preserve our precious world for future generations. Your holiness, your word and your deed you set a profound more willal example and in these gentle but firm reminders of our obligation toss god and to one another, you are shaking the thoughts of our complacency. All of us may at times experience this advertise comfort, contemplate distance between how we lead our daily lives and what we know to be true, what we know to be right. I believe such discomfort is a blessing for it points to something better. You shake our conscious from slumber. You call on us to rejoyce in good news and give us confidence when we can come together in humility and service and pursue a world that is more loving, and more just, and more free. Here a at home and around the world may our generation heed your call to never remain on the sidelines of this march of living hope. For that great gift of hope, your holy father, we thank you, and welcome you with joy, and gratitude, to the United States of america. Applause. Good morning. Good morning. I am deeply grateful for your welcome in the name of the all of the americans. I am as the son of an immigrant family im happy to be guest of this kentry which was largely built by such families. Applause. I look forward to these days of encounter and dialogue, in which i hope to listen to and share, many of the hopes and dreams of the the American People. During my visit i will have the honor of addressing congress, where i hope, as a brother of this country, to offer word of encourage. To those called to guide the nations political future in fidelity to its founding principals. I will also travel to philadelphia for the eighth world meeting of families, to celebrate and support the the institutions of marriage and the family at this, a critical moment in the history of our civilization. A applause. Mr. President , together with their fellow citizens, american catholics are committed to building a a society which is truly tolerant and inclusive, to safe guarding the rights of individuals, and communities, and to rejecting every form of unjust discrimination. Applause. With the countless other people of goodwill, they are likewise concerned that efforts to build a just and wisely ordered society respect their deepest concerns and their right to religious liberty. Applause. That freedom remains one of the americas most precious possessions. And, as my brothers, the United States bishops, have reminded us, all are called to be vigilant, precisely as good citizens, to preserve and defend that freedom from everything that would threaten or compromise it. Applause. Mr. President , i find it encouraging that you are proposing ab initiative for reducing air pollution. Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me that also that Climate Change is a a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation. Applause. When it comes to the the care of our common home, we are living a critical moment of history. We still have time to make the changes needed to bring about a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change. Such change demand on our part a serious and responsible recognition not only of the kind of world we may be leaving to to our children, but also to the millions of People Living under a system which has overlooked them. Our common home has been part of this group of the excluded which cries out to heaven and which today powerfully strikes our homes, our cities, our societies. To use a telling phrase of the reverend Martin Luther king, we can say that we have defaulted on our promisery note, and now is the time to honor it. Applause. We know by faith that the creator does not abandon us, he never for sakes his loving plan or repent or having created us. Humanity has the at ability to Work Together in building our common home. As christians inspired by this certainty, we wish to commit ourselves to the conscious and responsible care of our common home. Mr. President , the efforts which were recently made to mend broken relationship and to open new doors to cooperation within our human family represent positive steps a along the path of reconciliation, justice and freedom. I would like all men and women of goodwill in this great nation to support the the efforts of the International Community to protect the vulnerable in our world and to stimulate integral and inclusive models of development. Applause. So that our brothers and sisters every where may know the blessings of peace and prosperity which god wills for all of his children. Mr. President , once again, i thank you for your welcome and i look forward to these days in your country. God bless america. That is fantastic. I got to tell you, for a man not his first language, english a fantastic job by pope francis. Did he great. I understood every single word. He did mention philadelphia. Yes. He put philly in the speech there. Lets listen to what they are saying now. The choir from washington d. C. Back here on the set of good day philadelphia with alexa and bob kelly, mike jerrick here. He did mention philadelphia. The world meeting of families. He did bring it up. He brought up Climate Change. He brought up immigration and hot topics that he is expect to talk about while he is here in the United States. Now this ceremony will continue for another half an hour or so. He will sit through a band, and a little private session in the oval office apparently. They will meet for 45 minutes and the vicepresident , joe biden and secretary of state joe biden will meet with the secretary of the vatican. Once they leave the white house they will have a brief parade and he will be in the pope mobile. Going down constitution avenue, getting over to Saint Matthews cathedral. Something i said earlier about the papal parade here in philadelphia. The the independent mall ceremony starts at 4 45 on saturday, and immediately followed by the papal parade. So the parade will happen between the Independence Mall ceremony, and the 7 30 start of the festival of the families. They have the stage, basically ready to go in front of the independent mall now. It is real nice looking right there, by George Washington statue, and he will give his speech right there. It looks like scaffolding, girders over fourth and market, area checkpoints. Those big girders are for cable, running cable. Yes,. And i think magnetometers security checkpoints will be locate there had as well. It does give you a little taste, it is just exciting, this has been a great morning on good day philadelphia because it gives us a taste what we will experience saturday and sunday. Before i walked in the studio this morning i drove around the block a couple times just to check it out. It is exciting to see staging going up. Right now we are listening to the st. Augustine gospel choir. Our voices are drowning it out so we will be quiet. Applause. Mr. President , this is the close of the ceremony. Of course, we worked with the pope, ending this on good day philadelphia. He was right on time. He is a punctual pope he knew Wendy Williams was coming up at 10 00 oclock. That was a beautiful ceremony, wasnt it. It was, i like his final word he said i thank you for your welcome, i look forward to these days in your country, god bless america. To top it off, the the final word, we love you pope francis. We will see you in philadelphia, on saturday and this sunday. Can you just imagine. Im getting goose bumps, imagine all of the people that come to visit the white house, do you think there has been one as exciting as this one recently. I cant think of any. I dont think so. Workers there, the the band. And also the students that came out to see the pope, and ones that got to shake his hand, talk to him and hug him. To be that little will kid that was standing right across from the door when he came out of the embassy this morning. Im still looking for herselfe, i have not seen it. We will keep searching for it. Im sure it will come up. Are we folks, are we ready for this. Are you ready for some pope mobile. I think witnessing this arrival ceremony a lot of people are feeling excitement and we are ready for him to come here. You are thinking people are going to the web site and trying to get more tickets. My attitude changed this morning, come out, shake your hand. Even if you cannot get pictures you can come out and be a part, everyone is feeling this feeling. You dont need to be up close to feeling it. Get close to one of those jumbotrons. Every where. Reminder we will be on at 6 00 oclock the saturday morning. We will be outside, here at fourth and market, so, if you are in the the area, please come by and say hello. Of course we will have coverage throughout the daytoday, of the popes visit to washington d. C. , so we will make sure to keep that covered. Stay with fox 29 and updates on line at fox 29. Com. And, reports at 5 00, 6 00 and ten with our bruce gordon. We will see you again tomorrow for good day philadelphia thanks for hanging with us on a very special day. Live from new york city, its the Wendy Williams show. Wendy how you doing . The kids are dancing. You wont believe what im going to tell you. All due respect, have several seats. My girls are always turned out. I give it to you straight, no chaser. Now, heres wendy wendy hello yeah [ cheers and applause ]
