For decades, have watched reporters like me stand outside this building, and see politicians, that they elected come and go out of the building, a lot of times go in hand cuffs to federal prison, extremely rare to see the number one Law Enforcement official in the city who pursued and got convictions and guilty pleas for politicians, for taking bribes and put them away to be charged himself. Engage in series every corrupt transactions, in which he sought and accepted bribes, and in the form every monday i, expensive vacations airasia line tickets, jaguar convertible, expensive furniture, extreme form every payment came in the form of 2,000 in cash, a 7,000 check, which mr. All right, so here we are, just two hours and just hours we should say philadelphia District AttorneySeth Williams will be processed by the f. B. I. , and faces First Court Hearing as the accused. The da is accused of taking lavish gifts, even cash, in exchange for favors, and now hes facing a long list of charges, including fraud, and bribery. Mr. Williams was willing to compromise his position of public trust in exchanges for private, financial gain. The 50 page indictment outlines in one case how williams tried to help Business Owner get lighter prison sentence for a friend. According to the prosecutors, williams got a laundry list every bribes, from 2010, to 2015. And including a 200 louie vet anti, a 300dollar ipad, a 6,000 trip to punta cana with a private beach and butler. Prosecutors say, williams even asked for a second trip to punta cana in a text message saying i am merely a thankful beg err and dont want to over step my bound in asking, but will gladly go. The charges allege that the da also got a three 200 custom sofa along with burr berry watch. And 9,000 in cash and checks. Williams is also charged with defrauding a local nursing home and a relative who is being cared for there. The indictment outlines how williams accepted trips from other businessmen to florida, san diego, and vaguest, along with 1997 used jaguar convertible valued at more than four grand. Mr. Williams simply took money that did not belong to him. And then after that the new jersey us attorney said he lied about it. Took money that did not belong to him. He lied about it, so we have attorney fred tis. With more on what this means. Good morning. What does it mean . It means our District Attorney is in big trouble. I spent years as a fellow prosecutor. If you look he indictment, i guarantee you the government has a ton of evidence, theyve dotted all of the is, crossed all of the ts, and yes, hes innocent until proven guilty. I get all of that. But at this point, his defenses are going to be basically a blind fold and a cigarette. When you say ton of evidence, 50 pages . Thats the indictment. Test message . Yes. W indictment, i want to rewind, 23 federal charges, ten count every excepting bribes, 11 kinds of wire fraud, two count of extortion, when we say indicted a does that mean . Great question. Tom, tell you what it means. First of all when the federal government charged people with a crime, they do it through a grand jury. A grand jury is basically 20 to 25 people, citizens who come and sit, every tuesday morning, for 18 months, or thursday morning, for 18 month. And then the government goes into this grand jury. Nobody else but the prosecutor and the agents can go in there and present testimony. These theyve seen the emails, heard testimony from irs agents. Then the grand jury gets presented the indictment, the piece of paper that you have, and they vote on it, they return whats called trowel bill. Thats how you get charge wad federal felony crimeunretiremeno that if the commonwealth. You dont really charge the da charge, but in federal system youre charged by grand jury. So roughly 21 people have heard substantial evidence against mr. Williams. And returned what is called true bill. Probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed and that he did did. What could he be facing then . Well, you know, theyre all felonies. I forget how many countment technically. Twentythree. Twentythree counties, roughly five years per count, just back of the envelope numberment talking 100 years. No, he wont get 100 years. Guideline still apply. They are just that at this point, guidelines. The cases assigned to judge named judge paul diamond, very smart judge, very fair judge. But if mr. Williams is convicted, youre a criminal defendant, judge stein man will not be on so alex held up the pages here, 50 pages going down the list jaguar, 16 Round Trip Airline tickets, 7,000 check, 3,000 so far a how do you plead not guilty to these allegations in. Thats the thing, hes committed, say he will not plead guilty. So we end up having a trial, government will put its evidence on. Kind of the running joke when we were prosecutors the defense lawyers will tell if you will be a two week guilty plea. Thats ultimately what will henned up hang. Maybe some of the evidence gets thrown out. Maybe something happens. Maybe you get a hung jury. Maybe you get jury with these kind of charges, some o the stuff thats in there, i mean there is guy is the da. Okay . He is in charge of an office that has a tremendous reputation over the years. And right now, there is probable cause to believe that hes done things that undermine the publics confidence in the District Attorneys offers and quite frankly, it is not fair to the hundreds if not thousands of dedicated servants who serve our city well, and keep the streets safe for people. You bring up very good point. Will this affect any past cases, any current cases from the District Attorneys offers . Thats hard to say, highly unlikely, there are the cases the indictment talks about that got involved to try to do something about. At that point im not sure. Unless it is shown he played a role in some case where someone got convicted i dont see it happen. If you read the daily news, see what people are saying, calls for him to resign. Im sorry. I think he should. We saw things like with kathleen kane. That went on for awhile. And she ultimately got convicted and went to jail. Im sorry. It is tough enough, tough enough job when youre in Law Enforcement to begin with. People should take steps or not take steps to undermine the job that they do. I mean, it is an important job. And it is, i think, on some levels unfair. I think unfortunately a lot of people out there whether it comes to eating disorders they dont think of men when it comes to it . Right. Youre exactly right. This speaks to the point of for a long time, still currently, eating disorders are kind of viewed as a females problem, a womans problem. And the reality is simply not true. And one of the problems in why that has that mitt has come to be, that theyre under reported in men. I mean, i think it kind of is the sick lick al problem, viewed as female problem, less men are going to want to be coming for the that they are struggling with this, and additionally, the research thats been done has been primarily on female samples, similarly with assessment measures, for to diagnosis eating disorders, has been validated, tested on female sample, so not exactly capturing what the pathology looks like in men. I think all important for us to know eating disorder is a Mental Health issue and we dont realize that sometimes . I think another one of the battles of having an eating disorder, is the stigma around this misconception, around what an eating disorder means, people thinking it is about vanity or just but, in many cases, it is not. I mean, as you had pointed out with zayn, he mentions the idea of wanting control. And as an eating disorder therapist, i hear it all the time. Also mention anxiety. Did the two go handinhand, eating disorder, anxiety . Yes. I would say there is a high morbidity between anxiety and eating disorders, and in fact, for many individuals, Something Like anxiety or depression, the eating disorder kind of functions as a way of coping with this internal struggle that the person may be having. Whats also interesting is how we reveal he didnt realize what was going on, he said he would go sometimes two, three days straight without eating anything at all. It got quite serious though at the time, they didnt recognize it for what it was. How do we recognize if a loved one or we are going through Something Like that . I think one. Clear signs for many individuals is a weight change. But thats not always the case. In fact, thats one of the reasons why eating disorders go under diagnosed, is because a person with an either disorders may be of a very normal weight. And may not have lost any weight at all. But of course, we cant ignore that for some people, there is a weight change. But also noticing a change in the persons eating behavior. And the way theyre interacting or in situations where food is present. Youre going to tend to notice a fair amount of avoidance when a person is struggling with a eating disorders, situations with a lot of food, like family parties, vacations, happy hour, things like that, can be become incredibly stressful for an individual with a eating disorder, where the rest every us might be most fun part of our week, it can be very stressful, you may start to see a person pulling back. The warning signs the same for boys and girls . We sometimes think young men, tommy just trying to get in shape, trying to be a better athlete. Do you approach the conversation in a different way . Thats a good question. Are the warnings sign the same . I think it depend on casebycase basis. We have certain men who men and boys, who are not reporting a concern about weight, or wanting to be thinner. Sometimes quite the opposite. Young boys want to go bulk up, be more muscular, but in other cases not at all. Sometimes their weight may not be after concern at all.
