Five years ago. Total 690,000 from those five banks, each one did not know and was not told of all of the other loans that the the other banks in that same week. New jersey state attorney general says fryar pocketed 200,000 from the scheme. Banks thought it held lean on fryars moms house to cover any loan loss but all five had to write these loans off as big losses. State says fryar closed on all five loans too before all recorded to the banks until banks wouldnt find out they were duped. So all he would get is five years, in this. His mom would only get probation if he accepts the deal. His mommies now 72. But should he turn down this plea deal and both go to trial both could face double that time ten years in prison. On the loan application state charged prior and behind months mom lied where he is pastor. That paid her a thousand each month to plan events. That would have help her pay the loans back. What a crazy story this morning a california couple, they have been married more than six decades. That is crazy. But they have tied within four hours of one another. Broken hearts, right. So taun and max seen simpson met in a Bowling Alley and they fell in love, and traveled the world, two weeks ago, dawn suffer a broken hip and hospitalized. His family later brought him home to max seen battling cancer. They spend their final hours in the bedroom holding hands. I will cry. Max seen passed first and don followed her four hours later. But today he answered a charge of breaking one ofen commandments shall not steel, ten years after starting his church here fryar and his mom indicted, charged with ripping off five separate home loans in six days for one hour house, closing so quick that the banks had no clue that the other banks are handing over big checks too for the same house that each one thought it would be the lean holder on. New jerseys attorney general says that fryar pocketed 200,000 of the six zero grand in loans that the banks wrote off. Today fryar has to tell the judge whether or not he will accept that plea deal that gives him a fiveyear prison term and his mother would get probation. If he turns it down he and his mother both face double that time in prison up to ten years. Easy decision for a lot of people rather than put your mother at risk at age 72 to take that fiveyear prison term and take your punishment but fryar is not happy because guy who set this thing up and did it were four other families pleaded guilty, the Mortgage Broker, and only got 20 months in prison. Is he claiming he didnt know what was going on here and it is all on that mortgage guy. Reporter well, that is what his initial claims were when charges first came up and that came from his lawyer. Fryar has in the spoken publicly about this but he does have a point when he says guy that did it with him, maybe, if he admits it, and four other families, gets only 20 months but you get bigger name and bigger target sometimes you get bigger punish. Last week you may remember Pennsylvania State house of representatives decided not to vote on the cigarette tax for philadelphia, and, of course, that is leaving Upcoming School year in limbo. Upstarted this by saying what a mess. Here we go again. Superintendent of the philadelphia School District doctor william hite talks to us about what this all means. Thanks for being with us. Thanks for having me. Here we go again, where do things stand for the School District at this point. You have been working the phones all day every day. Working phones with the legislators, House Majority leader, senate, our delegation, educational advocate, mayor, city council and what are you hearing. Everyone is working now to try to find a way to get legislators back in harrisburg to take up this cigarette tax and a tax that has already been approved at the city level but requires authorization from the state. It was supposed to be today and it was canceled abruptly at the end of last week. They are say they will not vote until they come back. Do you think that has anything to do with the report that came out a couple days ago that adding additional funding to the schools is not helpful and has not increased test scores. I dont think it was a reaction to that at all. I think that report is a group of individuals who have a different opinion how we spend our money and it doesnt take into account those fixed cost that is increase every year if we did nothing. It was quite misleading. The the report was because it just divides how many children into they we receive and unfortunately, our money doesnt go out that way. There are fixed cost as associated and those cost increase every year. This august 15th deadline that you have said this is when we have to know or we are sending out these layoff notices. 1300 faculty and staff that will be laid off, class sizes will swell to 40, is that august 15th is that a deadline what happens if there comes and goes, is that a. August 15th is a hard deadline because we have to communicate to families and parents and to staff quite frankly everything that will happen in the two weeks after that, september 8th when we open schools. It is a hard deadline for us. Nothing has changed. So still considering a lot of things. Were considering whether to delay opening of schools, to remove more resourcees from school. Finding teachers. Reducing staff, letting teachers go which i have said im not going to do or taking class sizes up to 40 or more. What is dynamic here, is it that you have state legislators from outside of the philadelphia area saying what is in it for me and my constituents. I dont know. Im an educator, not a politician. What are you hearing from them. And i hear about a lot of political things. I hear about a lot of political things on this issue verse that issue that has nothing to do with philadelphia, number one and nothing to do with the education of our children. So im there to talk about the consequences if in fact we do not get these revenues. A lot of the issues of the philadelphia School District are facing not strictly related to money. They are bigger than money. I feel like we hear the same story every year, we saw protest last year. We heard aloft scary stories frankly about what was going on in classrooms. Has it become white noise to us at this point. Here we go again, right. How do we get to people that care. There is a group of educational advocates who are going up to the capitol to make a case for legislators to come. And parents, that are part of the process as well. Everyone has been energized around this issue and everybody helped us with city council earlier, city council came through. They helped with the mayor, the the the mayor came through. Senator williams promoted legislation for cigarette tax a year ago. We all thought that would be concluded wye now. It is not. I want to add this point, we need 81 milliondollar to get where we are this year. No one would submit is adequate or sufficient. So deficit this year is how much, 39 million. Correct, correct. So we still have 81 million to get back to this year and we have requested 224 in million would have that to start adding resource toes school we think will make a difference. I wish we had more time. Wed like to talk about where money initial the classroom but we will be following this story incredibly closely that is develops over next couple weeks.
