Reporter problems started here long before it even opened, before ground was broken, you could not pronounce the place, you didnt know place was a casino and it doesnt look like one because it doesnt have the the big red name that people are used to plus it is location, it is not ideal. It is in the inlet section so you have to come into town and make a hard left. Even though they built roads to take to you this place nobody knows how to get to those roads and worried about get lost in one of the not so nice sections of Atlantic City. Construction stopped on this place back in 2010 but by then it was already the tallest building here at the shore, second tallest building in all of new jersey but it had no interior and fire sprinklers and if new jerseys governor didnt step in and push tax reimbursements it would not have gotten finished at all. Important time to focus on drowning prevention, of course, and this morning we want to focus on a type of drowning called secondary drowning. Doctor mike, explain what that is. This is something that anyone out there that has children needs to pay particular attention to, im talking about secondary drowning. What is that . That is where one of your kids gets in the pool, and just for a second or so, they inhale water into their lungs. They seem okay, you get them home, and then they start having some problems, breathing, and before you know it they are in the emergency room and in the hospital in serious trouble. Lets talk about what this is. What happens is the child inhales some water, and in pools, there is chlorine and these chemicals. It can cause, a reaction in the lungs, known as chemical newman nights, it causes an inflammatory reaction in the lungs and it can lead to significant problems even having kids on a ventilator and they can die. Five to 10 percent of kids or people drowning have this kind of drowning situation. Wouldnt you have have had a horrible scare at the pool and go my gosh, we just dodged a bullet my kid almost drawn. That is the thing that you initially see in little johnny who looks okay, but then these are 39 major warning signs. Little johnny gets home, he coughed, he seemed okay but he got water in his lungs. He has difficulty breathing. He gets really, really tired. He or she has a change in behavior. You better get your child to the emergency room, fast. Once you get there to the emergency room they can detect water in the lungs quickly. It doesnt take that much water, michael. That water with those chemicals can cause significant problems and lead to something very serious called a cute respiratory distress syndrome which is a big, big, serious problem, through to end up on the ventilators, dont make this mistake. This just happens when they are horsing around. It can happen if the child, especially fit is a very young child. They dont necessity how to swim. They get their head under water. They inhale water in to their lungs. That is where they have the problem. Salt water, fresh water or pool water. Have you ever seen it at your practice .
