Were preparing for the president , donald trump is coming to town, to speak with the republican retreat. Even before it get here, the protests have already gun. Security is on high alert. And there are lots of road closures, you will need to know about. Weve got Team Coverage. Plus, an inches breaks, entire generation believes they could make it after all. Who can turn the world on with her smile this morning we are looking back at the life and legacy of Mary Tyler Moore. Good day everybody, it is january 26th. It is a thursday, thomas will be along in just about an hour on good day. But right now we have the gang to get us where we need to go. I know it will get wet today. Few raindrops, at least this morning, yes. Actually for the bulk of the people coming into town, probably miss the showers, because they should be over by 10 00, 11 00. Oh, good news. Well see. Here we go. The sixers won again . Thats exciting. Everyones been raising the cats. Yes, i love that. That was a silly thing that got start you was it a lot of fun. Showers on the way, umbrella with buddy, temperatures, yes, 40s, 50s, this morning, few upper 30s. Weather by the numbers, a six today. And there are few showers rolling in, in advance of our front. Again, this is going to be pretty brief. It will probably last through the morning rush hour, and very light rain, at that. So it, shouldnt cause too many problems, she said with crossed fingers. There is most of the temperatures in the 40s, weve got 37 degrees in reading. 53 degrees right now in wildwood. Winds not issue, most pretty calm this morning. So here in old city, we have a 7 14 sunrise time. We will probably see some sunshine this afternoon after the showers go away, and the winds kick up to maybe 25, 30 miles an hour, and it will still be winnie tonight with clouds, and low of 37. So thats your Weather Authority forecast, for your thursday, weekends almost here, bob kelly, yeah. Yes, but we got busy busy busy day ahead of us. Good morning, getting you started 5 03. Nice pretty sunrise here, 422 at 29. No problems at the moment. Downtown where it is all going to go down later today. The vine st. Expressway, nice and quiet now, but we will have motorcade madness all throughout the day. Here are the detail, all gone down 12th and market, the loews hotel is the headquarters, the road closures, set to begin at 8 00. And no parking, and no pedestrian traffic there starting at 6 00. So picture anything right there from 12th and market, and take it another three, four blocks on either side, is the area that we will have the shutdown throughout the day. If you really must come into center city obviously for work or travel plans, the market frankford line is the way to go. It runs underground, will not be impacted by motorcade stoppages, or any of the potential protests, theyll bypass the 13th street station, because thats right there at the loews hotel and at the septa headquarters, you want to use 11th street or 15th street dilworth plaza. Dilworth plaza is probably your best bet. Walk couple of extra blocks, have no problem at all in or out of philadelphia using the market frankford line. All of the septa bus routes will be on a detour. All buses east of city hall, the full list of the buses, and you can click your bus route and it will give you the exact detour at septa. Org. All of the trolley routes in center sitly begin at end at 15th street instead of the normal 13th street. Even new Jersey Transit and patco getting in on t all of the new Jersey Transit buses will be detoured in center city. Remember those buses come over the ben franklin bridge into center city. Theyll be on a detour. Patco will see what happens there. Again, those trains come in underground. But they typically have their delays through the rush hour. Weather delays as sue just mentioned at Philadelphia International airport and we will have three times in which we will have the Vice President , the president , and the Prime Minister, coming into philly international. Then from there a motorcade into downtown. So, air traffic, not just with weather delays, but obviously the dignitary delays, expected at Philadelphia International airport today. Karen, back over to you. Bob, thank you. And philadelphia is ready for Donald Trumps first visit to our sit of brotherly love as president. Security is on high alert making sure the republican congressional retreat is safe. And before the president can even get his feet on the ground, the protests have already started, people making their voices heard, hundreds gathering outside the loews hotel, where the retreat is being held in center city. We are expecting thousands more today, so weve got crews all over to cover it all, preparing for the commander in chiefs visit. Our jenny joyce will have some more on the protests, we start right now with steve keeley. Good morning, steve. Reporter often comes without freedom of movement, bob kelly of course i heard you, look, bob, already the Pedestrian Access is limited. So as you said, this thing is fluctuating. So they have a gate here. You see these two police officers. You need an i. D. Now to get on this side of Market Street if you want to walk on the sidewalk, and then look at the lanes, already seeing the lanes start to shut down on Market Street. Theyve got police vehicles, triple parked out front at most times here. So they are directing traffic already out here, as well. So my recommendation is to start avoiding this asap if youre going to come to this area two blocks down the street from city hall. So whats the schedule for today . Well we will see donald trump arrive early afternoon, were told, and then who knows whats going to happen after that. So the republicans all getting together, the congressional leaders, senator john hey we hope to let everybody say what they have to say and get their feelings known and take their feelings into our meetings, and try to unite this country. And thats going to be the sense from the Republican Party, they tell us. The sense from the people who will pose the Republican Party and donald trump will be a whole lot different. Congressional republicans started putting together aggressive two hyundai, during the first day of the retreat. So their plans include acting on the healthcare repeal bill, by the end of march, and rewriting the tax code by august. And as the president get ready to speak to all of those republicans thereon retreat, of course, the protest remembers trying to speak to him, as well, another day of demonstrations. Lets get right back throughout to jenny joyce with what we can expect. Jenny, good morning. Reporter good morning, karen, expecting thousands of protesters as you mentioned, right now only few passersby, and police out here, already, in preparation for whats expected to be a very busy day here in the area of 12th and Market Streets. Last night the crowd dance in the protest, and hope to move their message across the mind of law makers in town for the gop congressional retreat. The antitrump group is angry about a number of policies, the president is actively working to put in place. This week alone, there has been talk and Movement Regarding issues like immigration, healthcare, abortion, international trade, and the environment planned to revive the keystone and dakota pipeline. Philly police say all day we can expect a Significant Police presence, with officers on foot, bike, motorcycles, and in cruisers, with a job thats two fold, protecting the president of the united states, and the protesters. We have an obligation to ensure the safety of the people who live and work here and visit here, as well. And the protesters, and obviously the dignitaries that are visiting, as well. Up until the fact you break the lawn, thats another story, then we will take appropriate action. So that wont be tolerated. Chief inspector joe sullivan with the Department HomelandSecurity Unit says that their job is to create a safe environment for protesters to be heard. People are angry, and it is a good thing to let protesters vent their feelings. How much, if criminals show up in their place, police will be prepared to handle them. So the first permitted protest is scheduled for 11 00 this morning. It is going to begin at thomas payne plaza, which is couple of blocks away, off broad street. Then theyll work their way over here, to the loews hotel, also expecting a number of protests, to erupt, that are not already have permit in place, car glenn thank you, jenny, of course keep it right here. We will have complete coverage of all of that, this big visit as well as the protests, it will be right on fox29. Com. First 100 days, President Trump and busy taking aim at illegal immigration. He signed more executive orders on wednesday, making good on some of his campaign promises. Stripping federal money from sanctuary cities. Philadelphias a sanctuary city. Mayor kenney says the feds will get no more cover ration than theyre already getting in deporting people. We turn dangerous people over to them when there is a warrant. And a warrant is not a difficult thing for federal government to get. Immigrant population is not the source of crime. Theyre often the victims of crime or the witnesses to crime and driving them underground does not make the city safe. Immigration experts, and Civil Liberties groups, are doubtful that the president has the Constitutional Authority to strip federal grant money from sanctuary cities. And the president also signed an executive order to build a wall on the border with mexico during a interview with abc news. He reiterated his vow that mexico will be paying for the wall. Well, american taxpayers pay for the wall. Ultimately it will come out of whats happening with mexico. We will be starting those negotiations relatively soon. And we will be in a fully reimbursed by mexico, absolutely, 100 . Mayor says mexico says 100 no. The president of mexico condemns the administrations actions and again vowing that his country will not pay for that wall. Mexico does not believe in walls. I have said time and time again, mexico will not pay for any wall. The mexican president says hes now reconsidering a trip he had planned to our country for next week. President trump says he expect construction on that wall to start in the coming months. She had spunk. And she could turn the world on with that smile. Throw your hat in the air to the life and legacy of the one and only Mary Tyler Moore. Morning, bob. She flipped him over good, didnt she . 5 12, turnpike connector bridge remains closed to vehicle traffic, as we go outside, a live look, hello to reading, pennsylvania, or is that wilmington . And eddie van halen, celebrating a birthday today, blowing out 62 candles. Happy birthday to you, eddie. We will check the forecast and the jam cams when we come right back. This thursday, 5 15, anita baker celebrating her 59th birthday today, sue serio, good morning. Sorry, i was listening to and eat a love her voice. Love every song she ever did. Yes, so it will get a little damp this morning, in advance of a cold front thats coming through. Weve got the mild temperatures in place right now. Cold air is behind the front, cold front, usually dividing line between warmer air and chillier air. And that will set the tone for the weekend. Chillier weekend. But seasonable weekends, too. So, there is a look at some of the showers that are starting to spread into the area. Very light, but you probably already need your umbrella in many places, this morning, the showers are becoming more widely scattered. So, expect this to continue over the next couple of hours. Down south, we could see few heavier downpours. But by 9 00, 10 00, still raining, by 11 00 probably gone. Definitely by noon. And we will see sunshine. Then we will see the winds pick up behind that front. And could get very windy this afternoon. 43 degrees in philadelphia right now. It is a mild start to the day. The normal High Temperature l is 40 so already ahead of the game this morning. Thirtyfive in allentown, 37 this reading. 53 degrees to start off your day in wildwood. So right to the seven day forecast, 55 degrees early High Temperature today, then the winds pick up this afternoon, 43 tomorrow, and thats not as cold as it is going to get in the rest of the seven day forecast, about 40, 41, over the weekend, seasonable temperatures, but chillier than that, for the last couple of of days of the month, february starts on wednesday, perhaps with a few showers. Bob kelly . Hey, sue, good morning, 5 17 on this thursday morning no problems or delays so far. I95 good shape. Chester fire location at eighth and barkley, with some local detours. Live look at the roosevelt boulevard. Right near fox street, no problems or delays at all into or out of the city. Downtown, open for business here, the vine expressway, and vine st. Local, of course, the republican retreat, all centered around 12th and market. So, coming into philadelphia, Via International airport, we will have couple of problems to look for. Weather delays, arrival and departures of air force one, of course, with the president , the Vice President , and the Prime Minister, here is the deal. Vice president set to arrive around 10 30, the president around 11 30, the Prime Minister, at 12 30. Once they touchdown, the motorcades will take them into center city, to 12th and market. And then that return back. So, throughout the day the weather and the vip arrival and departures, are going to impact some of the air travel. Of course the roadways, as well, if you need to come into center city avoid all of the motorcade madness by using the market frankford line. Underground, will not be impacted by any protest or any motorcade shutdowns. The only change it will not be stopping at the 13th street station. You can use either 11th street to access the market frank for line, get on at the gallery, which is at eighth street, or 15th street, dilworth plaza, is the way to go if you are coming into or out of center city. All of the septa bus routes will be on a detour, east every city hall, as we saw from steve, they already have the barriers up, getting ready to start restricting traffic thereon Market Street. The full list of the septa buses and the actual detours is available on septas website, all of the trolleys will begin and end at 15th street, theyll not be headed to the 13th street end of the line. All of the new Jersey Transit buses that come over the ben franklin, and into center sit, will be detoured, along with all of the other buses in town, and patco so far so good. There is your road closures again, 12th and 13th and market all centered around the loews hotel there at 12th and market, and keep yourself few blocks away if you really need to come into downtown, and not a part of that event. The no parking and the no pedestrians were set to go in at 65 00. But again, that heavy police presence, weve already seen this morning, things could change by the minute. The turnpike connector bridge, remains closed to vehicle traffic, and so so far were off to a good start, karen, back to you. Bob, thank you. Sound good, sue, 5 32, good morning to you on a thursday morning, waking up so far so good. We check the speedometer readings for the gang in wilmington. No problems up and over the delaware memorial bridge, have a fire location, though, in chester. This picture sent to me, via twitter of the fire at eighth and barkley, in chester, so watch out for local detours there. Live look on the ground for the folks in new jersey, starting to see some pockets coming in toward the city. But the big event of course downtown philly here at 12th and market, at the loews hotel, road closures, again, the barriers are up, heavy police presence, and anywhere 12th and market, and spread it out about four, five blocks, and thats the area that you want to try to avoid if you are doming into center city today. Best way to go, only change is the market frankford line will not stop at the 13th street station. Use 11th street to access the trains, or, board and exit at 15th street, dilworth plaza, thats the way to go. All of the septa buses will be detoured east of city hall. That complete list, and the actual detour for that bus route can be found at septa. Org. All of the trolley routes for septa will begin and end at the 15th street station. They wont be servicing 13th street. New Jersey Transit also the buses, detoured into center city. Remember those buses will come over that ben franklin, and then hit the detour. Now, spec weather delays here at Philadelphia International airport. Not only with a little bit of rain, but a lot of vip activity coming into the airport, then motorcades in and out of center city throughout the day. Karen, back over to you. Bob, lets talk more about that right now. Because the president is coming to our neck of the woods today. It is his first visit since the inauguration, he is here to speak to the republican congressional retreat happening in our neck of the woods. Down to washington to hear what folks are talking about today. Good morning, doug luzader. Good morning. President trump is going to kind of meet with the gop rang and file at this event in philadelphia. It will be a pretty, pretty big gathering, a loft security no doubt, simply because the president himself will be there. But as much as weve been talking in recent days about all of the executive orders that donald trump has been signing, there are some things that he Needs Congress to do, and chief among them will be the repeal and replacement of obamacare, which means republicans will have to be on the same page with some kind of replacement plan, the president has made that pretty clear, that he wants to see those things happen simultaneously, repealing the old plan, and installing the new one. But getting everyone on the same page will be tough, that will no doubt be a big topic today at this meeting in philly. So doug, philadelphias a sanctuary city of course the president signed hits executive order about not giving the money to sanctuary cities. Do you think this is really going to happen, or what impact it will have on all of the cities lining ours . Yes. Well, fill if i i philly, washington dc, and what the president is talking about doing is the approach is not necessarily novel. It is the idea that the federal government withholds money from cities, from localities, from state, in order to coerce them into doing something that the federal government wants. We have seen that, for instance, with the drinking age, with speed limit in the past, the federal government has a lot of money, so if there is a pretty big stick here, that the federal government wheels. But how will that actually work when it comes to going after these sanctuary cities . That will be interesting to see how it is actually implemented a lot of the mayors in the cities are saying that theyre going to stand up to the federal government. Will that hold if it really involves a loss of revenue to these cities . Well see. Also, the other, one last thing, big headline, also about the wall. He says hes definitely building it, and the construction will start pretty quickly. What do we think about all of that . Well, look, hes got the power to do. That will there are some funds already at the disposal of the department of Homeland Security to begin some construction, but not nearly all of it. Thats going to require some money. It looks like taxpayers will have to foot the bill at least at the start, the president committed again last night to making mexico pay for it. But the exact mechanism there isnt clear. The president of mexico says theyre not going to be paying for that. Doug, thank you so much, we appreciate your insite from washington. We continue our Team Coverage, because of course when the president comes to our area, there is going to be a loft protesters, as well, the demonstrations began yesterday, and theyll be continuing today. Lets get to jenny joyce. Jenny . Reporter good morning, karen, we are about five and a half hours away from the first scheduled protest, taking live look at the streets here, this is market around 13th street. You can see, police already in place, outside the loews hotel monitoring activity. Last night, the crowds danced in protest, and hope to move their message across law makers in town for congressional retreat. The antitrump group is angry about a number of policies, the president is actively work to go put in place, in pep ration for protests last night, and today, local police are working with the fbi and secret service to make sure both the president of the united states, and the protesters, are safe. While police are used to handling big crowds in the city, most recently, women, last weekend we had the womens march with 50,000 people on the parkway, last summer of course, the dnc, police anticipate these crowds could be large, and even more passionate. Police will use number of Community Policing tactics, placing plane clothes civil a far as officers in with the crowds mobilizing several officers on bikes, for approachability and quick access, in the event after issue. This is such a heavy weight since trump was inch august raised, so many people, different identities, see Trump Inauguration as i think it is really heavy, real depressing for a lot of people. We dont approve of Donald Trumps election. We dont approve of the policies that he and the gop are putting for the. People, lets so there you heard from a few of the protesters last night, well, yesterday chief inspector joe sullivan of the ppd Homeland Security bureau said we wont see police in riot gear for these events. That sends a combative message, instead, police want the protesters to know theyre allowing them to do what they need to do to let their voices be heard. As long as it does not compromise the safety and security of other. And police tell me the goal is zero arrests, zero confrontations, at worse, if there are arrests, they want to pursue lowlevel charges, they really dont want any issues. Theyre not anticipating any issues. Theyre hoping the protesters come out here and remain peaceful in hopes of sending their message. Karen . All of our hopes most certainly. Jenny, thank you so much. It is 5 39. We will be right back. Lilly. She pretty much lives in her favorite princess dress. But once a week i let her play sheriff so i can wash it. Good morning, everybody, 5 45, live look at the platt bridge, disable midspan, right here, looks like they got him out of the way, but no problems up and over the platt bridge, keep in mind, when the motorcades get on the move, between the airport and center city, the platt bridge, or the girard point double decker bridge, one of the two options that the secret service will use to bring all of our guesses into town today. Here is a live look downtown, the vine expressway, nice and quiet, no problems or delays at the moment. Looking good for the gang down in wilmington, we got the fire in chester, at eighth and barkley, there is a shot from one of the viewers who posted it up on twitter. Obviously, before the firefighters arrived there. Expect delays at Philadelphia International airport. A combination of weather delays, and three vips and of course then have what i call the motorcade madness, now, i cant give you the exact times but i can tell you that the Vice President will arrive here first, at around 10 30, with motorcade to center city. The president will arrive in a second at around 11 30, with motorcade in the center city, Prime Minister coming into town, around 12 30, so there is your times, with motorcades back and forth, to center city, and then of course thats going to come with the shutdowns and then the gridlock, to follow. If youre coming into center city today, the way to go is the market frankford line it, runs underground, will not and impact dollars, by any of the motorcade shutdowns or the potential protests, the only change is that it will not stop at the 13th street station. Thats closed at the moment, you can use 11th street to get on to the trains or just exit at 15th, which is dilworth plaza. That is your best bet for travel into and out of center city today. All of the septa bus routes are being detoured east of city hall. They got the full list of the bus. You can click on your bus route and see the detour right there at septa. Org, all of the trolley rights begin and ends at 15th street. New Jersey Transit buses, theyre going to be stuck in the delay coming over the ben franklin, and then detoured in center city. Keep in mind when these motorcades come through, even though the ben franklin doesnt get shutdown, access to center city is denied. Therefore, those delays will roll into new jersey, on the ben franklin, it is all going down at 12th and market, the loews hotel where weve been live since last night, so again, all of that activity along mark from say city hall all the way east is really the area you want to try to avoid. No parking is already into effect. There is already no pedestrians permitted on the sidewalks. And of course, the rest of the roadways, pretty good shape at the turnpike connector bridge remains closed. We have some rain on the way for the president ial visit. Sue has the time line in 15 seconds. We have a change in the weather, the shower this morning, then turning win think afternoon. So, it is not going to be as delightful as yesterday was.
