River bridge. Steve keeley along the shore this morning but we will begin with bob kelly, and sue serio. We have a lot to talk about. It will be a busy morning. Crazy. Obviously the stuff over weekend with the bridge. One thing you will feel is wind. I opened up the car door to get my coffee and wind took the car door, almost flying. I was on the turnpike yesterday and traffic, congestion, already so we will talk about that, bob thanks. My neighborhood i have dodged branches on the ground already and brunt of the storm isnt even here just yet so lets take a look what is happening. There is radar. You can see the storm bearing down on us, this is the same one that spawned those deadly tornadoes down south and there are some areas of heavy rain, they just havent arrived in our area just yet. We have light rain in ocean county, atlantic county, part of the Burlington County this morning but we are still waiting for heavy rain. High wind warning along the coast today, wind advisory for us in philadelphia and along i95 corridor and gale warnings off shore. Wind gusts already up to 28 miles an hour in philadelphia, we have 33mile an hour win gust in wilmington , delaware. 39 miles an hour in wildwood. 40mile an hour wind gust in Atlantic City, that is Tropical Storm force. Already. Like i said the storm isnt officially here just yet. 44 degrees in philadelphia, with those 28mile an hour gusts, sunrise at 7 16. Dont look for sunshine today this storm will be with us all day long. Thirtyfive in mount poke nest where we will to have eventually, tomorrow, watch for some frozen precipitation but this is a rain storm with a High Temperature in the mid 40s to today and wind driven rain all day long. Fog may roll in tonight. We will talk about that coming up, but it is two things you just got to watch out for today, bob kelly rain and wind. Definitely as i mentioned, you know, i felt both of them this morning. That is first thing you will feel is the wind when you step outside the front door. Our top story the pennsylvania turnpike new jersey turnpike, connect or bridge remains closed. That is bridge up here in bucks count that i connects both of the big turnpikes and it is going to cause major congestion at three of the other river crossings. Heres the turnpike bridgette self that is closed to vehicle traffic. The local traffic from the neighborhoods, well, of course , you have the option to use burlington bristol bridge but most of the traffic that comes over the turnpike are coming from either the pennsylvania or new jersey turnpike. A lot of tractor trailers use this stretch. All have of those vehicles have been pushed off using other alternates. We have a couple of options, if you are using the pennsy turnpike trying to get to new jersey, they are pushing everybody off at route one which is at philadelphia interchange to begin with and then then using route one up to i95, go over Scudders Falls and connect that with 295 away, yep, it looks like it is out of your way, and it is, it will add another easy 45 minutes for your trip for gang coming in from new jersey off of the new jersey turnpike , because you were most traffic flows in from those, they will push everybody off at exit number 7 a take 195 over toward either route one and then that will get you south down toward the philadelphia interchange. No matter how you shake it, it is a long commute, of course, rain will not help this morning. We had big delays last night, united, instituted a ground stop at 8 00 last night. They have lifted that. All flights are traveling again but expect delays down at philadelphia international, with the rain and the wind, certainly playing a factor today. Karen and thomas back to you. Thanks, bob. 4 04. The as bob and sue just mentioned noreaster expect to hit the shore the hardest, lets get to steve keeley along the shore this morning, hi there, steve. Reporter were not along the shore yet we are only in hammington we are 30 miles away from the shore likely wont get there until after 5 00. We are looking at a big american flag, just three days after the inaugural and look at it the blowing real good here on route 54 the main drag , between the Atlantic City expressway and the the white horse pike in hammington where we are heading next. Our man jared showing you some power lines. That is the big fear. It is kind of warm. Snow, ice not a factor and flooding may be a factor at the shore but big factor will be wind, and with the wind gusts expected to hit 60 miles an hour, at the shore, we are already seeing the warnings from the Power Companies that give all of the energy to the shore, Atlantic Electric says hey we have crews on stand by. We have extra crews from as far as baltimore if we need them in case these tree limbs start falling down in the power lines and knock electricity out. Heres our tip of the day if you are driving do not drive over power lines, and if a power line falls on your car the idea is not to get out of your car, wait will until help comes, your car is the most safe place to be. However, they do mention sometimes cars catch on fire people panic and they dont know what to do then. If you have to get out of the car, leap as far as possible. That sound like a joke in a way but it is not a joke, this happens occasionally. Is there our tip of the day, stay in a car if a power line is over your car and it is not causing a fire to your car. On a lighter note, we like these big storms with wind and rain because you know what that means for us, karen and thomas, it is car wash day at fox 29. This is when we watch our vehicles during downpours like this. Not just a car wash but a free car wash. Yes, thank you, steve. Whenever we have bad weather we have huge problems out the there on our road. And we have a big detour we are dealing w bob talking about it. Bridge connecting the new jersey and pennsylvania turnpike is it is now closed indefinitely. Lets get out to Lauren Johnson in bristol with the very latest on that mess, lauren. Reporter good morning to you, karen. Expect extreme delays in all Delaware River bridge crossing s, that is what officials are warning commut ers about this morning and double trouble because as sue mentioned we will have weather moving in. We are live on the pennsylvania turnpike and burlington bristol bridge which could see heavy volume this morning as an alternate the route for many commuters. Headache started on friday a crew painting turnpike bridge when they noticed a complete crack, that was not safe for 40,000 vehicles that crossed the bridge every weekday, it closed immediately for repair over the weekend, crews have worked to stabilize that bridge while engineers are engaging in a more permanent repair strategy, right now there is no date set to reopen we have not seen exactly how this will affect the week day morning commute just yet we will find out this morning but one truck driver says it will be a massive headache. Around here and bridge and weight limits will cause major problems for trucks to get in and out of new jersey, philadelphia and this one here came out of ohio on the way to trenton and now i have to go 10 miles further. Reporter bob kelly told us if the Truck Drivers that will be most affected by this, bad weather moving into our area will include strong wind, heavy rain which will make matters worse this morning so officials are asking if you have alternate options if you can use transit, car pool or even have the option to work from home today, today is the day to do that, karen and thomas. It is a major connection. Thank you, lauren. With the closure and weather fox 29 has you covered every step of the way. Stay with us for continuing coverage of the noreaster. You can get updates on your phone or more mobile devices on the the fox 29 app. The storm bringing our noreaster is the same system responsible for several tornadoes in the south. In georgia the governor has declared a state of emergency after the severe storms left at least 14 people dead. The fast moving storms destroyed dozens of homes all across the state as it brought down trees and power lines. At least one tornado has been confirmed in cook county, that is in the southern point of the state. Residents there say they will go on. Unaudible. Tornadoes were vicious, powerful, and strong, and they suffered greatly. So we will be helping out the state of georgia. Severe weather also hit mississippi, louisiana and texas over the weekend. Record rainfall is the problem, in southern california, the region there received nearly 4 inches of rain on sunday. Freeways were flooded and there are concerns about mud slide. Unfortunately more rain is expect today. Time is 4 09. The Republican Party will hold their joint retreat in the city this wednesday through friday. President s first meeting with lawmakers will be likely on thursday. Retreat will take place at low es hotel in center city. Time right now 4 11 on this very busy monday, we have had more violence at a mall. Shots ring out inside that mall. Absolutely senseless, absolutely senseless. Coming up on good day philadelphia what Officials Say led to that deadly rampage good morning, bob. Good morning, everybody 4 12. We are looking live down near philly international airport, delays on the roads, expected today, delays in the air, but the shore is going to go get the brunt of it. The lets say good morning to absecon, new jersey, we will have the rest of the forecast check jam cams and update on that bridge closure when we come right back. Welcome back. It is a gray start to this monday morning but we will have very severe wind gustness our area so the worst is most certainly yet to come. The lets check with sue with what we can expect. We aint seen nothing yet. Rain and wind, rain and wind but worst of the rain has not arrived just yet as you can see here on ultimate doppler radar. Energy from the southern storms is starting to transfer and form that coastal storm that we have been talking about and reason it is called a noreaster because the wind will be coming out of the northeast as this moves up the coast and you can see heavier rain along outer banks of North Carolina right now but eventually that makes its the way here. We have had some rain in advance already in parts of the new jersey but not very heavy at the moment. We are talking about wind, and as our big factor in our weather today so we will continue to watch, ultimate doppler radar, a slew of watches and warnings, advisor ies, Winter Weather advisory to the north of us in the poconos as temperatures dropped, after the noreaster leaves and then a wind advisory for all of us around metro area Coastal Flood Advisory until 9 00 p. M. Along the shore points. We have a high wind warning along coast and gayle warning for folks there, high wind warning is for gusts up to 60 miles an hour and for us, we will probably get one to 2 inches on have rain. 3 inches possible down the shore which means a lot of tidal flooding. Inland gusts up to 50 miles an hour. Coastal gusts up to 60 miles an hour. Localized Power Outages are possible, all that rain plus high wind, could knock some trees and power lines down today so you have to be careful anywhere you are traveling, but especially the impacts will be felt at the shore with the street flooding , with the two to 3 inches of rain which will add to the flood risk that is already high because of the high tide, street flooding and significant beach erosion unfortunately, because this is kind of the storm that we dream about. Only this inning that is a blessing is maybe not snow. These are kind of the snows that will give us hefty amounts of snowfall to say the least but temperatures are too warm for that right now. 44 degrees in philadelphia. Fortyfive out in lancaster. We have 34 degrees in mount pocono, that is area we have to watch for wintry precipitation. Upper 40s along the shore. Wind gusts in the the 20 to 35. It looks like this rain will last through at least early part of the day tomorrow and as chillier air moves into the northern areas, that is where we have to watch for wintry mix of precipitation but for us this is just a rain event. Just hang on until wednesday, bob kelly, because that is when we have sunshine, and a high of 53 degrees. Come on wednesday, cant wait for that one. 4 17. Good morning. It will be a rough go this morning for a couple of reasons. We have the rain. We have the win. Were dealing with some fog. We are dealing with the turnpike connection bridge that remains, closed and that is main bridge that connects the pennsylvania turnpike with the new jersey turnpike, and most traffic that uses this bridge, itself, it turns out to be the big rigs. Tractor trailers that will cross coming out of harrisburg and making that straight shot all the way over to new jersey so we have three different options and those three options will see extra volume, this morning, or indefinite liz until we get this fix the burlington bristol bridge, of course, connects bensalem, bucks county and with south jersey we have Scudders Falls bridge which is i95 bridge and then we have route one bridge that connects trenton and morrisville, new jersey. There is a few official detours out there big rigs we will see blinking signs, they want everyone to get off at philadelphia bensalem interchange and take route one , route one north will take you up and over into trenton, new jersey from there you can go all the way up to publishing up i95 and come back down or pick up 29 in trenton and work your way over to the turnpike. The this is also going to impact folks from new jersey they will have blinking signs pushing everybody off at exit number 7a heading into trenton or again taking that big loopy loop around and bringing it back in over i95. Bottom line there is no easy one answer, alternate, it depend upon where you begin your trip and where you are ending your trip but youll see extra volume . There is only a few options to get across the river again the Scudders Falls, Trenton Morrisville bridge or burlington bristol bridge some folks may go way out of their way and use that tacony palmyra and pick up new jersey turnpike. You have your plan ready to go before you step on out there. Heres your live look at an example of the roadways, this morning. 309 at Fort Washington has wipers on intermittently this morning, the wind is really going to catch you, open up that storm door of your house, your screen door it could go flying, car doors watching yourself parking and opening up that door. Wind will take it for a ride. Old glory getting a ride here this morning. You can see example of the win on the flag there as we look live at the burlington bristol bridge. So far that is the ben franklin bridge. So far, so good on mass transit. Karen and thomas, back over to you. We had a massive field of people. This is largest audios to ever witness an inauguration, period . Why the president asked the White House Press secretary to come out in front of the podium and utter a falsehood. Sean spicer our press secretary gave alternative facts. The point is not the cross site but at tax and attempt to delegalityized this president. Instead of talking about how many people showed up at his inauguration. It looks like a million, million and a half people. We ought to be talking about how many people will stay in the middle class and move in the middle class. I have a running war with the media, they are among the most dishonest human beings on earth. A lot of back and forth over weekend, tension is growing between Trump Administration and media follows this weekends massive woman rallies all across the country. Trump surrogates took to the sunday talk shows to debate numbers at those rallies as well as amount have of people who attended his inauguration in his First Official visit to cia headquarters President Trump spent part of his address claiming the media created false perceptions. So white house called a news briefing saturday night fuming over photos used to compare the crowd attending president obamas first inauguration with the crowd attending President Trumps swearing in on friday. Photographs of the inaugural proceedings were intentionally framed in a way in one particular tweet to minimize the enormous support that had gathered on the national mall. This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period both in person and around the globe. National park service refuses to release official crowd estimates of the national mall, neilson Television Ratings say nearly 31 Million Viewers tuned into watch trumps inauguration, the third highest. Ronald reagans 1981 inauguration was highest were 41. 8 million, followed by mr. Obamas first inauguration in 2009, with 37. 8 million. Totals are in from the womens march which is being called the largest demonstration in u. S. History. Washington metro system tweet ed that more than a million trips were taken on saturday, compared to the inauguration, 570,000 trips were taken on friday. According to the latest figures more than 3 Million People took part in womens marches all across the u. S. Hours after the marches President Trump responded to the rally using his personal account, he tweeted watch protests but was under impression that we just had an election. Why didnt these people vote. Celebrities hurt badly. A developing story right now second man is in custody after a deadly Jewelry Store robbery at a mall in texas yesterday. Investigators say two men robbed a kay jewelers at san an tone yes mall and suspects running away from the store, they shot and killed a Good Samaritan who tried to stop them. Several other people were injured but it was a bystander who was carrying a licensed concealed weapon who shot one of those rob hours was then treated and taken in custody. Other suspect was also arrested, one mall worker said she just wanted to get everyone out safely. It turned around, started telling customers to just run, run. I just had to get up here and i talked to her, text her told her daddy was out here and just worried sick. My goodness. Fbi is assisting in this investigation. It is 4 24. Our big story certainly will be weather today because we have a nasty noreaster slamming parts of our area right now. You are going to want to pack your patients for morning rush today. You see we are starting to see wind pick up with noreaster bringing heavy rain and win to the area. We will get your complete forecast in just a moment. We will look at the radar right there. It says it all. We are not experiencing worst just yet but wind is here and we will tell you when heavy rain will arrive, bob. Live look at wilmington delaware, where we have rain, wind and big detours because of that bridge closure this morning. I satisfaction take covers and pull them right backup. Wouldnt it be nice to just do that. Yes, boss and tell boss boss i say okay. I have my bob kelly excuse note. We have a couple things. Good day to do that because it will be awful, outside today. So lets start with you because you will be really bus think morning. If you can get through it if you allow yourself a lot have time. It is when you are rushing that things start to happen. Like i said bulk of the heavy rain isnt here just yet as you can see on ultimate doppler radar. It is down to the south of us and heading our way. It the is light rain but higher winds. We have high wind warning in effect along coastal counties, wind advisory for rest of us and storm warning off shore, 30 miles an hour wind gusts in philadelphia right now, 25 miles an hour, these are gusts, sustained wind are pretty high as well, 33 miles an hour in wilmington. Tropical storm gusts are force gusts i should say at the shore. So right now it is 44 degrees in the city, sunrise at 7 16. Fortyfour in reading. Thirtyfour in mount pocono. We will have to watch that temperature drop a little bit for slippery conditions but for us, it is two things to remember, rain, and wind, and temperatures staying in the 40 s all day long, and tonight , as well. So we will break it all down and talk about impacts at the shore which is where it will be worse bob kelly then it is for us. You got that right, sue. 4 32. Ayuky monday on tap and to kick it off we have left overs from friday, turnpike bridge remain closed indefinitely more tea tails on this situation, coming up in just a moment but for morning rush hour that turnpike connector bridge is closed for the morning rush hour. That will throw traffic every which way but loose here. We have three big options. You can use burlington bristol bridge which typically takes a lot of local traffic to begin with. You can use i95, Scudders Falls bridge or route one Trenton Morrisville bridge. Of course, there is not a lot of options. Is there your three options. Spread that out over the thousands and thousands of people that typically use the turnpike connector bridge every single day. Not just from the pennsylvania side but also from the new jersey side. Now heres the best alternate, it all depend upon where you beginning your trip and where you are trying to get to. If you are coming from pennsylvania, you typically roll over. You can go all the way over to Delaware Valley about you that puts you off in bristol off at route 13. Your best bet jumping off at philly bensalem interchange, taking route one up and over into the Trenton Morrisville bridge and put new to trenton and connect up with 29 and back on your way. Coming in there new jersey, couple of options here, again, blinking signs are going crazy with a lot of different options. Make sure you know which option you take before you get behind the wheel. Rain, wind will certainly make matters more confuse to go day but you can jump off at exit 7 a and take 195 west over to route one, come in through trenton, some folks will just use that 95 scudder falls. Keep in mind these bridges on their own right on a regular morning rush hour are crowd todd begin with. Certainly give yourself some extra time if you have to take that turnpike detour. Heres a live look at the schuylkill expressway right near conshohocken. If you dont have a good set of wiper blades here as we do on our camera you will need a good pair and a live look at the ben franklin bridge old glory blowing in the wind there to give you an idea of the wind. Both hand on the wheel. Youll feel car rocking rolling out of the driveway this morning. Back to you. We have a lot to talk about here. We have Live Team Coverage of the weather and, of course, bridge closure. Our Lauren Johnson is live in bucks count a long Delaware River bridge. Steve keeley is heading to the shore where the storm is expect to hit the hardest. The lets check where you are on your journey. Reporter we have made it one town closer to the shore from hammington which is mulika township, and you can see our headlights just light drizzle right now, the wind not so bad you know, so i guess this is best conditions we will be reporting in for the rest of the morning. To specifically tell you where we are we are at elwood antiques here on white horse pike. This is a place we have been before. Our every day constant never miss the the show viewers will remember this place because they have big concrete duck outside that still hasnt sold since our last live shot here, a couple years ago in the the snow. You can see, the duck still has its scarves on but the ducks winter hat has been knock off. What jared was showing you is something you would see in the snow. Heres an original flexible flyer, inventor of that, by the way in moorestown, new jersey a little history there. Some of this stuff looks like it has been blown down even though we dont have a high win just yet the but a lot of these antiques have tarps and wonder if the tarps will stay on, not covered, an old coke machine. Look at the price karen and thomas for a tab or a fresca because they were diet drinks of their time, 12ounce cans for a quarter, all right. This machine itself now on sale for 200 bucks. Look at that, rc coal, canada try, which we are not and diet right and barrel head draft style root beer. They have everything here but a bathroom sink. They do have a bathroom sink and a tub, and again, aged to perfection antique warehouse, i am what you would call age to imperfection doing live shots out in these storms all the time. We will see you closer to the shore, probably Egg Harbor City when we see you at 5 00. All we need is a shine s hasta. Thanks, steve. Lets talk about the weather that is a major problem but then we have a major detour where commuters who take the Delaware River bridge they will to have find another way, because the bridge has been closed indefinite thely. Lets get out to Lauren Johnson in bristol to explain, lauren. Reporter good morning, karen, as bob said this is one of the three alternates here at burlington bristol bridge where people will try to use this because that pennsylvania turnpike bridge is closed. We could see heavy volume here but we see lots of trucks and cars passing by because this will be a alternate route for many commute ertz this started friday afternoon crews painting turnpike bridge noticed in the just hairline crack but complete crack in that bridge. So now 40,000 vehicles that cross the bridge every day will to have find another way to get where they are going because that bridge closed immediately for repair. Over weekend crew where is working to stabilize the bridge and now engineers are trying to come up with a plan for more permanent repair but there is no date set to reopen just yet. We have not seen exactly how this will affect weekday morning commute since it happened on friday afternoon but it is not expected to be an easy monday morning. What were looking at is probably some long delays. We are pushing people to consider their options. It is not a very common occurrence. It is not a fact that i cannot remember last time we did this on a turnpike for structural reasons. Reporter those options, karen and thomas include transit, car pooling, maybe even staying at home to exercise that work from home option but again, bad weather is going to move in. That includes strong winds and heavy rain, as sue has been telling us, this will be a pretty messy monday morning. If you can work from home that may be the best option, lauren, thank you. Thanks very much, lauren. If you need to get ready for work or school and cannot be near your tv we have you covered. Watch us on line or on fox 29 on your mobile device, and to see fox 29 app. We will be right back. Where does it come from . The drive to be the first female official in the nfl. It starts inside. Thats why every cup of activia yogurt is made with billions of our exclusive probiotic to help care for whats inside. Activia. It starts inside. Welcome back. Were following a developing story this morning Major League Baseball continues to mourn death of one of its youngest stars, pitcher Yordan O Ventura was killed in the Dominican Republic saturday night. The 25 yearold spent four seasons with the royals, including their world series, championship in 2015. Obviously were going to have that fire, not only with his arm and with his heart. You saw him fight for his team literally. Kansas city has lowered its flags to half staff in honor of ventura. Another loss in the baseball world, former major leaguer andy martin was killed , in the Dominican Republic. He last played for Arizona Cardinals in 2013, at just 33 years old. Everyone still talking about President Trumps inauguration including the people over at snl. We pretend were not racist anymore. We dont have pretend anymore. We can be racist again, wow. Yep, he is whole lot more, how far did this comedian go, we have got the rest of the homes everybody is talking about when we come back. What are you doing up . Mom said i could have a midnight snack. Its not even midnight, its ten fortythree. Well, lets have a ten fortythree snack. Quietly, though. Okay. Yeah. Mmmm. Shhhh. Hey ill share my yoplait custard if you share your yoplait dippers . Al. Hhh. Deal. Mmmm. The family favorite. Yoplait. Good morning, everybody. Our top traffic story the turnpike connection bridge remains closed, indefinitely to vehicle traffic because of that crack and wait until you see picture of the crack. I just talk to Lauren Johnson. She will show it to us next time around. I had a wow moment last night when i actually saw the crack. I am pictures a crack in my drywall. This beam is split in two. We have three options. We have burlington bristol bridge, the i95 Scudders Falls bridge or route one Trenton Morrisville bridge, all three crossings in their own right are stacked and packed, during a morning rush hour. So, it is going to take sometime, and it all depend upon where you begin and where you want to end up on your trip. For locals burlington bristol bridge is probably your best bet. For big rigs, tractor trailers , the guys going from say harrisburg all the way to new jersey, up to new york, obviously you will want to jump off and stay with the highways. Blinking signs are going crazy with all of the different options. I will ask that you figure out which plan you want to use before you leave the house. It will be confusing enough, you throw this some rain and wind and it can get crazy here this morning. So from the turnpike itself as you head east in towards philadelphia bensalem interchange if your intentions are to go to new jersey jump off at route one, take that up into trenton, up and over Trenton Morrisville bridge. The trenton makes the world takes, that will get new trenton from there you can use route 29 and back over to the new jersey turnpike. If you are coming from the new jersey turnpike, side, you can connected at 7a and that will get you again, reverse, using route one, 95 is also an option that takes you all the way up and around or you can connect it the for number five off the new jersey turnpike and use the burlington bristol bridge which you will remember is only one lane in each direction were talking old school there, in the burlington bristol bridge. So pack your patients a lot some extra time and last night United Airlines had a ground stop touring the evening, that had been lifted, but expect delays, tomorrow minute necessity delays this morning, not only just from that ground stop but also from todays wind, rain that we have to tiehl with and heres a live look the at schuylkill expressway coming in and out of the city. So everything will be slower than normal and sound like it will get worse before better. For all of the details sueby has god tonight 15 seconds yeah, the storm is heading our way but worst of it is yet to come when you see heavy rain down along the outer banks of the north caroline, little preview of coming attractions. We have Energy Moving to the off shore storm and that is forming right now, the rest of this is all, the storms that hit the south over weekend with a lot of tornado activity for us it is just light rain, in new jersey right now from ocean county down through at the plant i can county not very heavy just yet the but future cast shows that by the end of the morning we are starting to see rain pick up in intensity and then we will get heavier downpours moving there south to north after lunchtime, and it looks like a really messy ride home with a lot of flooding rains possible , all over the area, and then this northeast ter will continue to plaque us through the evening hours, nighttime hours, heaviest rain moves north in the overnight the hours but we will have left over showers through early tomorrow morning. Lots of advisory and watches and warnings out there, Winter Weather advisory for our pocono mountain counties because of the temperatures, cold enough that we could see some wintry mix or snow up there.
