Who knew a spinal cord injury up so hi affecting i dont breathe pick up ills it affected, what moved what what didnt move. I didnt know any of that. I knew nothing about injuries like that. For a long time the proctors werent sure jenna would ever walk much less dance. But after years of hard work here she is practicing her moves with childrens speech pathologist. I think for her its more about at confidence. Shes able to exude she has so much confidence and just so much life to her. A month before she went into a coma and almost died. It wasnt fun being so sick. Diagnosed at 4, lucy is now eight years old. Girls her age want to be princesses. But instead she was count the 2014 Childrens Miracle Network hospital champion for tennessee. It wasnt guaranteed we would even have the opportunity to be, to be celebrating such a miracle. I mean were blessed beyond measure. Even on days where i want to scream and be typical mom, and dont call me mom again, i just remember how blessed we are to have three in the house yelling mom instead of just two. Lucy and her family are embassadors for organization and Childrens Hospital. In november they traveled to washington d. C. And orlando, florida to share their story and advocate the importance of donating to local Childrens Hospitals. Doctors room, my friends, she used to printing me arts and crafts to work on. There are more than 100 bikes going to kids. And the cost of these customize the bikes ranges from 1,300 all way up to 6,000. The benefits are priceless. A lot of these kids cant who are disabled really dont have any other community access. So this, their rehab, if you will in family context, in an individual independence context. Also they are mooukt context. So when you look all three of those things its healthy, its fun, and its within the contexts of a family and community. Do you like riding your bike . And then, bam, i got cancer. Ryan got the devastating news right after his 14th birthday. After suffering from feverish fatigue and Throat Infection that is wouldnt go away doctors finally figured out what it was. I was diagnosed with nonhodgkins lymphoma. He underwent treatment like a trooper. His mother anna said he never complained even when he was in pain. He wouldnt say but they knew because of his heart rate. One hardest parts chemotherapy for ryan was he was two weak to play the sports he loved. He would literally sleep in bed with glove in his hand. A ball. And it would break my heart. So ryan tried out art which he could do in his hospital bed. One night he started drawing when he was too anxious to sleep his mom woke next morning she couldnt believe what she saw. Ryan this is really good. But you really didnt believe her i thought at that was like a mom instinct. Ryans potential was obvious. He was introduced to the Art Therapist gabby at the maria childrenss hospital where he was being treated. Drawing and painting gave ryan an outlet for his feeling and helped with his recovery. I felt like, i had monsters inside me like the chemo monsters. And you know i just drew at lot of color because, you know, that, different sets of chemo and weird looking colors. Once he got into art a little more you could see awas having fun laughing and joking his temperament changed like his temperament ryan paintings changed too from chemo monsters to clouds and trees and flowers. Ryan also used his new found art skills to enter a nationwide children Miracle Network contest to design a tissue box around theme what i love about school. He won the contest and the honor of being carried in major retail chain. Did you go to walmart and buy your tissues there . Yeah. How many boxes did you get . We have like a little closet. And its like, almost stacked. Through his cancer ryan discovered a love of art. Now with his strength back he can also return to sports he loves. This year he will trying out for his School Basketball and baseball teams. Ryans future looks bright and for that hes grateful. Thank god that i came back and i fought it and now im really healthy.
