Winter weather advisories meaningless sorry amounts of snow wins you move into sections of delaware and points west of philadelphia. Temperatures with this storm its not going to be an issue. Were looking at numbers at or below freezing already pretty much across the board. But watch the clock and watch what happens as we move toward the overnight time frame after midnight while most of you are sleeping, thats when this system really starts to get going. It will be a sharp contrast between the heavy snow north and east of us and lesser amounts where you see that light shade of color to the west of philadelphia. So the bulls eye the jackpot is definitely going to be north and east of our area. But with that said well watch the clock, watch the temperatures and watch the timing of this system. Once again by 10 00 oclock, we start to see some of that heavy snow pinwheeling back toward the philadelphia area. But the darker bands are likely going to set up as we move east of philadelphia in particular ocean county, Burlington County moving into sections down the shore. Thats where were looking at snowfall rates of two to maybe 3inches per hour and that continues overnight into early tomorrow morning. When youre watching sue and caitlin on good day. They will be tracking had fifty two snow it starts to taper off. So the bottom line, were looking at those snow showers continuing across our area. And that heavy snow really gets going as we move toward overnight and early on monday morning. When i come back well break down the totals expected neighborhood by neighborhood and county by conte. Were talking anywhere from 2inches to perhaps 16inches so amaze your spread with this system. Lucy and iain back to you. A lot to cover. Thank you very much, scott. The run after the storm has been difficult to pin down just how much snow we can get. You know, all kinds of factors come into play. Weve everything from a few inches to well over a foot why has this forecast been such a challenge. Heres chief meteorologist scott williams. Its ban challenging forecast iain and lucy simply because of the track as well as the timing of this system. We look at various computer models to help predict how much snow will fall in your backyard. Lets take look at ultimate doppler this is over the last 12 hours. Weve been talking about that clipper. That has arrived and that really hasnt provide add lot of snow for our area. We talked about how only to expect nuisance activity during the day. The opening act if you will. But energy from that clipper will be transferred to the coast. Take a look at earlier in the open waters of the atlantic you can see some lightning. Well watch some of that convective activity unfold overnight tonight. So watch the clock and watch how this area of low pressure intensifies overnight. But with that said theres going to be a sharp cut off between the heaviest snow in that pink shaded color and also the lesser amounts of snow in that blue across our area. So were talking totals from two to maybe 16inches of snow over our entire viewing area. So location is key as well. But for the philadelphia area it look like well have a solid six to 10inches of snow but the higher amounts continue north and east of the city traditionally with snowstorms its north and west. So dont p those locations will actually see lesser amounts of snow. Well break down that map even more specific county by county coming up. Back to you. All right. Scott, thank you. Lets take a listen live from harrisburg. Prospects or procedures if there were no emergency theyd have to, f we have to work quickly, they have the ability to do that. Thank you. Its important that we remain prepared. I think thats really important to respond to any situation that could endanger the the lives of citizens of the commonwealth. So we activated the state Emergency Operations center right here this morning at 8 00 oclock. Just to be prepared. This is not time to get excited or panicky. Just want everybody to know were really doing everything we should be to mack sure that were safe. This center is now staffed with key agencies so that if theyre called upon to assist counties theyre ready to go. In addition were also working closely with the counterparts in other states as i say some of the other states i think are going to get hit more or harder than we are. But were working with them and thats what we do aspen yanns. We obviously take care of ourselves but were also Good Neighbors and we want to be willing to help those neighbors in the time of need. So part of the preparation for this event is knowing what resources we have available to us. Penndot crews are out there working some of you know i was out with one of our senators yesterday in yokum town, pennsylvania, york county talking to the crews. Thanking them for their service and they do amazing work. They operate big vehicles on roads at high speeds and they do really good job. So i was there really to thank them. Also to peak sure we had enough salt which we evident dollar. Were in good shape. Theyre ready. Theyre ready in yokum town. Theyre ready all over the place and we have plenty of equipment plenty of salt for what we have to do here. But penndot is also ready to deploy trucks to areas of need like the Lehigh Valley and philadelphia area if thats necessary. Snowball fight in york has a man facing charges to night. He fired a gun several times at some teenagers who through snowballs at his car. That spray of bullets hit a 15 year old in the arm and leg. Jew quon dixon faces charges to night but hes free on bail. The teenager should be okay. Lets check back in with your weather authority. Scott is here. Little bit of a lull now before we really get hit later tonight. What you said was going to happen. Absolutely. The first system the clipper not a whole lot of snow and thats whats happening but the main event really price arrives as we move beyond 10 00 oclock tonight. While most of you are sleeping were looking at some of those snowfall rates that could approach two maybe 3inches per hour. There could also be some convective activity and yes some thunder snow but take look at all of the advisories in purple. That includes the entire state of delaware. Chester and lancaster counties in our area. In white the philadelphia metro area into all of south jersey. Winter storm warnings. North and west as well. And take look at the blizzard warnings those are highlighted in red that includes ocean county, so were looking at a little bit of everything from the system as we take a look the ultimate doppler right now you can see lightning earlier in the afternoon across the open waters of the atlantic. The green that is the rainfall. The pink is the wintry mix and the white that is the snow. We have snow right now around the pittsburgh area. Moving through the central part of the state as well as those flurries that were currently seeing across our area as we zoom in closer lancaster county, Chester County moving into sections of delaware looking at some of that snow. But were looking at some rainfall right now down the shore in the location that is will actually end up seeing some of the higher snowfall totals. So well time everything out for you as we look at the clock and the temperatures. Well be fine as far as those temperatures at or below freezing. But look at 10 00 oclock we really start to see some of those heavier bands setting up shop especially the farther east you head away from the philadelphia area. So well be watch watching how far west some of those bands pinwheel in ward as we move toward 1 00 a. M. Overnight. You can see were looking at steadier bands moving toward camden, gloucester counties as well as the philadelphia and Delaware County areas but Burlington Ocean moving into Atlantic County, continuing to see some of those heavier bands. By 4 00 a. M. When youre watching sue and caitlin, we are looking at some of the heaviest snow continue aig cross the area. By 7 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning north and east, Trenton Mercer county moving into sections of ocean county still looking at some of that very heavy snow and then the system starts to taper off as we move beyond 10 00 a. M. Tomorrow. So look at the totals and you can see that sharp gradient. Weve been talking about since the weekend. Two to 4inches once you move toward lancaster county, parts of the Chesapeake Bay area moving tore the delaware bay area four to sick inches. Wilmington were looking at four to six for you and philadelphia six to 10inches and then things really start to crank up into the double digits north and east toward Trenton Mercer county. So heres the bott of bottom line now through 10 00 oclock scattered snow showers across the area. You still have several more hours to prepare. And then the heaviest snow 10 00 oclock tonight through 10 00 a. M. Tuesday. So overnight while most of you are sleeping thats when were expecting the heaviest snow philadelphia and points eastward eastward. It starts to taper off tomorrow. Between 10am and 3 00 p. M. To blowing and drifting snow. So lets zoom in little closer and you can find your neighborhood and back war. West chester, chadds ford, four to 6inches. Reading four to six. Doylestown e perkasie bensalem moving into cherry hill were looking at that solid 10 to six to 10inches. Higher ams to the east. 10inches oh are more trenton hamilton moving into mt. Holly and pemberton. As we move into south jersey egg harbor, Little Egg Harbor brigantine, Atlantic City, 10 to 16inches for you. And then move a little farther west once again sharp cut off. Vineland millville, six to 10 for you. Four to 6inches as you move toward bear Odessa Newark and smyrna delaware. So slick roads reduced visibilities out there with that blowing and drifting snow. And once again a sharp cut off between who sees sees heavy amounts to the east and lesser amount to the west. Winds will also gust up to 50 Miles Per Hour along the coast and tidal flooding is expected at the high tide cycle tonight and then tomorrow down the shore. Once again as we look at those temperatures were pretty much at or below freezing area wide. The exception right now is wildwood checking in at 36 degrees. So as we look at that timeline for the philadelphia metro area, were looking at that snowfall really picking up once we move beyond the nine, 10 00 oclock hour tonight. And of course as we look at that seven day forecast, yes, we have more chances for some snowfall in the offing as we move toward potentially friday morning and then again maybe sunday into monday. But those appear to be clipper like systems and no major snowstorms so, of course, continuing to get new computer model data in. Well have another update at the 6 00 oclock show with the timing but once again it looks like the heaviest snow is going to arrive tonight and most of you will be asleep. Or you can stay up because we have hour by hour updates. Were around the clock this time around. It took winter awhile to get here. Its certainly making an impact now. Scott, thank you. As we brace from the impact people elsewhere in the northeast are expecting even worse.
