A Philadelphia Police officer comes face to face with death surviving a deadly confrontation during a Home Invasion in the northeast. All right Dave Schratwieser is live at Police Headquarters and, dave, that officer is considered a hero tonight. Reporter no doubt about it. This was close call. The suspect in this Home Invasion actually put the gun up to an officers head. Officer managed to swipe it aw away. Shots were fired. And the officer killed the suspect. Heroic. I dont need to say any more than that. Reporter thats how commissioner charles ram sigh describe the actions of a veteran officer after he came face to face early friday morning with a gun toting suspect who opened fire at close range. At one point the gunman actually put the gun right to his head. Reporter the officer swiped the suspects gun away and returned fire killing the suspect inside this home just off the boulevard during a Home Invasion. The suspect had a long history of arrests. Robbery, theft, and gun violations. He was convicted felon with a gun. Obviously, he had in the been rehabilitator. Hes still doing what he does. Reporter commission sorry says the 31 year old six Year Police Veteran who confronted the suspect inside the home on the 900 block of wakeling is lucky to be alive. I dont think anybody could have handled it any better. Very fortunate that it didnt turn the other way. So we just were lucky this time. Reporter a second suspect fled the home and vanish. Police found the suspects car 94 by and are processing it for fingerprints hoping it leads to the second suss spec. Were looking for him now. Reporter in week that saw the department take a hit with the arrest of six narcotics officers on corruption charges commission are in ramsey says this is another reminder of the dangers officers face every day. Police in winslow township were called out to the 400 block of new freedom road this morning. Authorities not giving many details but they say for some reason the officers had to shoot a suspect there. 42 year old Daniel Pierre died a short time later. Tense moments in center city. Fueled by what appears that be a real bomb. Turns out though it was nothing more than a theater prop the device was sitting out at 12th and pearl streets right around 10 30 this morning. Someone was just trying to throw away the prop. The bomb squad took care of that detonating it. They had streets blocked off also evacuated businesses in the area. Police say the person who throughout the prop apologized for the scare and no one is hu hurt. A man disappears during a boating accident at the jersey shore. Or does he . Reporter the only trace police and search crews found of bittle was his sneaker they fish that out of the ocean hours after he went missing. Police in Egg Harbor Township say this may have been no accident. Internal correspondence confirmed by fox 29 shows Egg Harbor Township police are investigating the 45 year old boater for numerous acts of theft and fraud. Detectives believe bittle may have staged the boating accident to avoid prosecution. Bittle disappeared the night of july 21 when this pontoon boat struck a about wee off the 11th of a jetty in longport. Passenger 23 year old jason bells made it to shore. He called for help. Coast guard and new Jersey State Police launch an extensive search and rescue operation. But today to date the state police say they have not found bittles body. Now bittle is a married father of three. Business associates tell us he buys, sells and races boats. He is based at a marina in northfield has a Company Called professional boat sales. Multiple agencies are investigating. State police are looking into the boating accident and the missing persons report. Egg harbor Township Police are looking at allegations of theft and fraud. They believe may have led bittle to stage his own disappearance. From what police say bittle may be prosecuted for those charges while hes still in while hes still disappeared. Police say someone left six bloody machetes, six dead chickens and one injured bird as well as blood on tombstones at Rose Hill Cemetery in linden, union county. Authorities say a truck driver was on a cell phone at the time of a deadly crash along the new jersey turnpike. 55 year old henry flores of union city was brought in yesterday for that june accident. Police say he was on the phone and failed to slow down causing a Chain Reaction crash hitting the car in front of him. Several people were injured. 43 year old Jeffrey Humphrey was killed. Flores is facing several charg charges. Tonight authorities are hoping to reward will lead them to whomever hit and killed a pedestrian along i9 i95 near Philadelphia International airport. Police say 62 year old will Fred Fleischman from germany was walking along i95 northbound lanes towards philadelphia when a vehicle hit him. Police believe after that, moore drivers on the road hit him. Fleischman had a lay over in philadelphia. He and his wife were traveling from germany to visit their daughter in north carolina.
