Yeah, thats jeff duncan from South Carolina as he was exiting the field this morning, a guy came up to him and asked him whether this was the congress sean team in which team was it and he said republicans and they moved on to their car only to hear the news report just a few minutes later and jeff told me that he thought he had spoken to the guy who was the shooter and when the news publish the picture he said that was definitely him. Congressman, were thankful that you and your colleagues are as safe as possible tonight. We understand that a lot of times you the pictures do the batting practice by that third base dug out which is where the shooter was today. But today nobody was there. Now were told this all happened starting at 7 00 oclock this morning again it was supposed to be peaceful practice for these congressional leaders who were here preparing for the baseball game tomorrow. The congressional baseball game in d. C. A peaceful practice that just went in a completely other direction in this case. So multiple gunshots were fired. Everyone just started shielding themselves out there on the field. Five people were taken to the hospital. Im told another person may have been injured as well. But as far as their conditions, two in Critical Condition and three including the capitol officer whos were there at the time and prevented this from becoming much worse im told, they are also in stable condition and should be making a full recovery in this case. Now, as far as the alleged gunman here, 66yearold James Hodgkinson were told hes from illinois. We have no idea as of right now what brought him here to alexandria, virginia, or how he found out that these members of congress were practicing here this morning for the game. But again we can tell you that he has a very long and lengthy criminal history in this case as well and also served on former president ial candidate democratic candidate Bernie Sanders campaign as well. Talking about the shooter, we understand there was a couple of leaders actually leaving the practice when the shooter kind of approached them before the shooting. Can you tell us about that conversation. How that went . Reporter right. Two congressional leaders were leaving at the time like you guys mentioned and they actually remember one of them remembers seeing hodgkinson coming up to him at the time and asking him specifically and i quote are there democrats are are there republicans playing on that baseball field . And that congressional leader answered republicans. Didnt think anything of it at the time. But again, he answered republicans. Those two, the alleged gunman ended up leaving heading toward that field. The two congressional leaders leaving practice early and it wasnt till until they were on the road listening to the news when they heard about the gunfire breaking on the baseball field they were practicing at and so right away they thought, we need to call police.
