New jersey state trooper sean cullen was just 31 years old when he died in the line of duty last week. The days weather added to the somber tone. A Funeral Services for cull clone not dampen the fond memories shared by his family, friends and fellow troopers. Our bruce gordon in the studio tonight. Bruce you shall you were at the church today in cinnaminson. I was indeed. Sean cullen was born in dublin, ire land but it was in south jersey that he lived. And died and was today remembe remembered. The rain fell like tear drops as mourner gathered Charles Borromeo Catholic Church to say goodbye to a cinnaminson kid who lived and died chasing his dream. Friends of the family could hardly put their grief into words. I just cant even begin to imagine quite frankly whats going through their minds, um, just such tragedy. Reporter Law Enforcement community flocked here from all over the country to pay respects to one of the their own. Sean cullen had served in several local south Jersey Police departments before joining the new Jersey State Police in 2014. He died last tuesday after being struck by a car while investigating an accident scene on i295 in west deptford. Youve got to be that type of person who will run into the situation that everybody else is running away from. Trooper cullen unfortunately died in the line of duty but doing what he loved doing. Reporter sean cullen was more than a state trooper. He was part of a family with parents, siblings a fiance and a nine month old son shamus. His jennifer call him firecracker. inaudible . Reporter cullen was based out of the bellmawr barrack a cops cop but also a guy who could light up a room with his sense of humor. His commander called him a character. Suggested that memories of the cullens antics might help ease his pain. Today is our day to be strong. Well have our time to mourn. But we need to be strong for the family and help them get through this. Reporter as sean cullen was carried to his final resting place, Church Members caused in reflection. Offering thanks to the men and women who risked their own safety in fact their very lives in order to protect us its not just what they do, its who they are. They dont get enough credit. They get a lot of crap and not enough credit. Reporter no charges have been filed in the accident that killed trooper cullen. Fox 29s Bill Anderson joins us now with the details. Bill . Reporter guys, officer jacai colson was a Police Officer in landover, maryland but most of his formative years were spent in our area. He was a young man in Delaware County described as always smiling and now friends and family are wondering what led to their friend seemingly senseless death. 28yearold maryland Police Officer jacai colson was shot and killed outside a landover Police Station sunday afternoon as three men ambushed officers. Since that time, those who new him have been sharing the high quality individual that he was. An incredible student athlete, um, the kind of kid you always wanted to coach, the well liked, well mannered, raced right by great people. We lost a great kid. Reporter officer colson was serving in maryland but had deep ties to the philadelphia area. He grew up in boothwyn, played basketball and football at Chichester High School and maintained several close friend ships. School officials who new him said the community lost a great young man. 20 plus years you go through a lot of kids, and when you hear Something Like this it just it just punches you right in the stomach. Its a shame. He was a great kid. I cant say enough about him and his family. Reporter officer colsons commitment serving others also originated in the boothwyn chichester area his grandfather james was a 40 year veteran of the Chichester Police department and friends say officer colson was inspired by his grandfather. He idolized his grandfather that. Could have been a big push for him to be a Police Officer. Reporter jacai colson was described as a leader, a role model and a good friend. Those who new him are at a loss over why someone would take a life from someone who was already giving it to so many. No one could say they didnt like him. He was just you like him. Police say the accused thief found a phone number inside the van and actually sent a text to the childs father letting him know that the baby was dropped off 8 miles away near penn and green streets. Philadelphia police making arrest in the stabbing death of a 24yearold in Rittenhouse Square early sunday morning. 40yearold steven sim pinger charged in the murder of mcgovern. The two got over a fight over his new Jersey Devils hat. Investigators say he stabbed mcgovern. Authorities are calling it a senseless crime. Happening now, a community is calling for the end to violence just days after a teen was shot to death on or porch in West Philadelphia. A vigil is set to begin in her honor. The democratic led state senate is debating a bill that requires employers to offer workers one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Lawmakers say the legislation will help low earning workers who cant take a sick day without bay. Business groups oppose the measure saying the policy will make it difficult to operate in new jersey. Four states connecticut, california, massachusetts and oregon already require paid sick leave for some workers. In philadelphia, active visits are urging city leaders and businesses to come together toed dress the citys high poverty rate. Leaders with oic and america and power say theyre working together on a poverty summit. It will be held in may. They want to find solutions to work in philadelphia. Community leaders say the issue of poverty is critical in the city where about one in four philadelphians lives below the poverty line. By mid afternoon, dozens of officers both in and out of uniform had gathered at headquarters where they stood together near the crime scene at the hospital where officer jacai colson was taken the chief of police had the sorrowful task last night of announcing his death. It is my sad duty to come to the community this evening and to tell you that one of your defenders jacai colson four year veteran, 29yearold man, lost his live in defense of this county today. Reporter the exact circumstances of colsons death are still under investigation, but police say he was killed in a gun battle. During the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was wounded, jacai was also shot. One of the officers who was engaged took jacai, put him in the back of a cruiser and brought him to this facility where he was pronounced dead. Reporter Law Enforcement sources have identified the shooter as michael ford and his two brothers asthma leak and elijah. Malik was arrested after the shooting a mile away at his popeyes on lapped over road. Colson was four year veteran of the Police Department and was assign to the narcotics enforcement division. Reporter chi chi was rescued from a south korean meet market by army a global Animal Rescue group. She was tortured for we dont know how long. Legs bound probably hung upside down. Because of infections her meat was deemed no good. She was thrown in the trash and left for dead. In order to save her life because the infection all four of her limbs had to be amputated. The how wells have adopted three other dogs. Shes going to sleep in my room with me at night and then im going to get to play with her because other dogs pretty much sleep all day. Reporter when they heard of chi chis story they knew they had to have her. For us as a family, its another way to serve, another way to give back to our community to give back to the world.
