Now fox 29 news at ten. Tonight at 10 00 marine murdered, shot and killed less than 24 hours ago in the citys olney neighborhood and now police say they have the person who did it. The tragic and terrifying chain of events did not end after the gunfire. Thanks for joining us, im iain page. Im lucy noland. Police say the shooter then ran into a nearby home. Two heroes at that home held him down until Police Arrived. Our Shawnette Wilson has been talking witness neighbors of that marine and shawnette, theyre heart broken. Reporter they are, lucy. We spent tonight talking to the victims family. They say that they spent decades worrying about him when he was overseas in the military. Never did they imagine he would make it home only to be killed. He was special. Special person. Reporter relatives of the 47yearold howard white gathered outside the home on rosland street in olney where he lived with his i wasnt shedding tears and sharing memories of their loved one. Gunned down early thursday morning. He always made us feel like, you know, we was his children. Reporter howard who went by the nickname moody also known to give everyone he knew a special name it was just his affectionate personality they say. Full of, you know, charisma. He was very socialable. Outgoing, you know, very humorous. Reporter family members were told howard was bar around the corner from home with another relative when he notice add man causing a disturbance with others. He stepped in and the suspect allegedly shot and killed him. Howard had only been home a month and half. He was a military man a disabled veteran. 20 plus years, you know, in several different terms of National Guard and marines, in the army, working across seas for u. S. Contracts still doing for his country even though he wasnt physically active. Reporter howard loved serving his country. He just met anothe veteran few days ago. Family members say the man heard what happened and brought over this flag to have draped over howards casket. Still a shock to me now someone would do Something Like that to him. Reporter harold hollande says his cousin was trying to diffuse the situation and that he was just that kind of man. He was trying to get somebody to, you know, not make the wrong mistake and wind up losing his life. Like he saved everybodys live at that bar that night. You know what im saying he went out like a hero thats what he was from day one. Reporter yeah, definitely a terrible thing to happen, again, white had only been home a month and a half. Family members also say that he was looking forward to buying his own home and reuniting with friends. Iain . I know theres going to be lot of traffic tomorrow. We thought wed beat it tonight. Apparently we didnt. Reporter if you think getting out of the city is bad on a holiday, it can get two, 3mile backup. Reporter its nothing compared to what has become the summer headache of 2017.
