Investigators say these two guys walked into a mans garage on friday night forced him into his bedroom. Now that the government is cracking down on what authorities suspect was too many doctors over prescribing narcotic painkillers. Too many patients and non nonpatients abusing the meds. We have a real crisis. Reporter its an evident to safe lives. Now theyre putting me in in the category of addicts. Reporter were not naming or blaming johns doctors past or present. We cannot say john was over prescribed oxycodone for his condition nor can we say john every took more than the dosage he was prescribed. We can say, however, that hes done feeling ashamed or guilty and abandoned. Its not fair. Its not fair. Reporter after his doctor of nearly 40 years retired, he entered a nightmare to try to find a new dr. Who would help him manage his pain at a level he was used to. She says, well, well cut you down to a certain point the pain will be tolerable. Reporter 30 pills fewer per month. Next doctor visit she said i violated the rules by being eight pills short. After she talked to the boss. She told me to go look for another Pain Management. Reporter john says when he asked why john, if we keep giving you these pills we can lose our license. Reporter john says he was losing his dignity and his ability to cope with the pain. How bad is this pain . You get nervous, you get twitching. Reporter desperation set in. I dont have anybody else to go to so i have to go up the bleep bleep once a month, right, pay, h i paid the prescriptions 18 is now costing me 150 for the Pain Management doctor. Reporter can you get off of these things . I heard its very hard to get off of it something about some kind of you have to go away to a rehab or something. Sometimes i feel like maybe i should go. But then i say, well, im not going to go away for couple months and leave my family. Im 87. And i dont know how much time i have left i would sure like to spend it with as least pain as possible. We dont know what to do. She toll us shes taking anxiety medication now. John says hes speaking out now for all seniors in pain desperate for relief and hooked on a medication through no fault of their own by doing what they trusted was the right thing.
