Two trains slammed into each other this morning. The question the National Transportation safety board wants answered is why . The Early Morning crash disrupted septa service for hours. Just passed 8 00 this morning septa Officials Say one train slammed into another on the same track. Then derailed. Those cars hit part of a third train on adjacent track. One of the train operators is in Critical Condition tonight. The crash hurt three other people but all of them are out of the hospital. That meant delays once again. And headaches once again for be bee leaguer septa commuters. Federal investigators are involved and combing the scene for any clues as to how this all happened. Fox 29s Chris Oconnell is at the 69th street terminal in upper darby with more information. Chris . Reporter thats right, iain. Team from the ntsb got here about 7 00 oclock tonight. They continued their work behind me. A look where you see these rail cars crushed, this is exactly where this derailment happened injuring four people. Those investigators continuing to comb the scene at this point. Theyll be here through the night. Eighty two you really have to feel for anyone who uses the septa system. Its been one thing after another. Derailment a labor strike equipment problems. Some say who use the septa system its about time Transit Authority gets back on track. Investigative team with the ntsb arrives tonight to septa 69th street terminal. As they begin to probe todays derailment that caused four injuries. Its the latest in a transit incidents that are making commuters blood boil. Ive about had it. They keep raising prices and dropping service. Its getting rough. Some something breaks down at least once or twice week. I dont know i can trust septa any more. Reporter commuter complaints are just the tip of the iceberg for what has been even by their own accounts a bad year for septa. Last summer, a third of the brand new silver liner rail fleet was taken out of service because of a defect. In november, the system was paralyzed due to transit worker strike. In january, two trolley cars collide injuring dozens. Earlier this month, more rail car defects. This time on the market frankford el. Do you feel that customers may be losing faith in the authority . Well, i certainly hope not. Reporter septa officials admit this year has been a string of bad luck, but they also say many of the disruptions have been safety related to prevent future failures. Inspection processes enable us to find these things and get ahead of them before they cause a problem. So i think thats indicative of our processes are working. Reporter even with all the problems, some commuters wouldnt travel any other way. I think septa is great. I think it gets me where i need to be. A man and a child are in Critical Condition after an ugly crash in northeast philadelphia this afternoon. Skyfox was above the scene of woodhaven road around 1 00 oclock. Police say a car crashed into a disabled mini van. 28yearold man and a twoyearold girl in that mini van were badly hurt. Driver of the other car also had to go to the hospital but is in stable condition. Happening right now, yet another search for three guys who targeted a man minding his own business. This story sounds familiar, it is. Similar type of attack has hammed three times in the past month. Guy just walking sucker punched helpless. The two other guys move in. This latest attack happened saturday night in center city. It was all over an iphone. Police are now trying to determine if these bad guys are connected to a similar investigation. Reporter iain these three thugs according to investigators were lying in wait on a back street in center city randomly targeting the victim for his iphone. When they saw an opportunity, they took it. I was talking to my friend on my phone, and they attacked me from behind. Reporter it was brutal attack caught on video in the 200 block of south camac street in the heart of center city. The victim spoke to fox 29 by phone tuesday night. The one punched me in my throat, and then the other guy put nia choke hold. Reporter detectives say the three suspects were roaming through center city in the hours before the vicious attack. When they randomly found this 30yearold center City Resident with a 700 iphone 6s they pounced. When you look at the video before the attack it looked like they were looking for someone to rob. They were, you know, they were up to no good. Reporter lots of people use camac street to cut through this neighborhood. There are no less than a dozen surveillance cameras on this block. The latest attack comes just weeks after a similar incident on south broad street. This time a 25yearold walking in the 1200 block was surrounded by four suspects. They punched him in the face, then kicked, stomped and pummeled him relentlessly. It could be the same guys much thats still under investigation, also. Hopefully its just an isolated incident and the city feels pretty safe. Reporter two weeks ago at 24th and lehigh a third attack. A 55yearold man was approached from behind by three men. One punched him in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious. A witness snapped a picture of one suspect. I hear its happening a lot. You know, its kind of a scary its kind of scary thought. Three very sad people that are coming into the city and doing things that they shouldnt be doing. Reporter now, the victim tells us he was not seriously injured. Police are looking for Surveillance Video in stores near the crime scene hoping to get a better look at these three guys either before the attack or after it. Tonight Wilmington Police say a second man has died from a shooting that we first told you about earlier tonight. Police were called to 22nd and mark street just before 11 00 this morning. 23yearold man was shot in the head and died at the scene. The second victim also a 23yearold man was shot in the chest and arm and has since died at the hospital. No one has been arrested. The warden of a delaware prison where inmates staged that deadly up rising is now on leave. The department of corrections says warden david pierce was put on paid leave but wouldnt say if the decision was relate to the hostage takeover of the james t. Vaughn correctional center. Inmates took four staffers hostage earlier this month and Corrections Officers steven floyd died. The Delaware State Police are conducting a criminal investigation into floyds death and the state will launch and independent investigation once that is finished. President trump first 100 days in office. Immigration reform again a top priority. The Trump Administration has revealed new guidelines. Millions of People Living in the us could be targeted for deportation. The department of Homeland Security says they are beefing up security including adding an additional 10,000 immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
