The Sandy Hook Lighthouse is which sits behind us was built in 1764. Its the oldest operating lighthouse in the united states. Reporter lighthouse at sandy hook it will almost continuously for 252 years. Its flame he can tin distinguished only during world wars one and two to camouflage the fort on which it stands. Reporter throughout its long and unique history this beacon stood fast against the ravages of time and enemy combatants. Did fire on it dwight quite a few times hadnt no succes suckt oh june 19th, 1776 colonial forces fired two cannons on the white house. The officer had to report back to his commander is junk general named George Washington the walls were to firm to destroy. The can nan balls simply bounced off. The fort is also home to battery potter, site of the nations first disappearing gun. Huge artillery pieces Hidden Underground lived by steam power into firing position. I can see my breath in here. Yup. Lutes ick wine cellar. Its wild. When they brought in the shells, they actually brought them in on carts on rails and this is actually a turn table for those rails. Despite intricate design these disappearing guns saw little to no combat. So they that had thee impressive guns that could lob shells way out there into new york harbor and what happened . They became obsolete to degree once the u boat became the fashion going world war one for the germans. At that point, kind of changed strategy a little bit. They continued to use guns but not from this particular battery, but they also did it in concert with mine fields that went up into world war ii. Reporter fort hahn knock was integralled to the protect of this nation but not in the traditional sense. We now about get december burg. We know about valley forge. Does this place fit into that same category . Its significance is a little bit different in regards to its not a balance field. Its really a tribute to the countries built to defend itself. The defense heres in sandy hook were build up in order to defend new york city. Because of this fort strategic location large scale enemy attacks on new york city never materialized. From before the founding of the nation, and the revolutionary war new york city was vitally important to a Young America and the job of defending it fell on the men in the military installations here at sandy hook. This is battery gun nelson. We have the remaining guns here. This is the one place on sandy hook where we actual dollar have the gun tubes. This is 6inch tube. This dates back to what . This dates back actually to the early 1900s. They change changed them out ans particular model was 40s and they were used during world war ii. These two were used to supplement the pipe fields out in the beginning of the harbor. Tell me what this gun did. This gunshot 6inch shells. Theyre a couple hundred pounds and you would open the breach on the bottom here thats covered up. They would put a bag in of gunpowder and then they would ignite it and it would shoot o out. Reporter throughout the history of the nation, really, any enemy vessel that threaten new york harbor could come under fire from this place right here . Yes, indeed. You think about it and 10 miles from the heart of new york city theyre actually putting Nuclear Warheads on the top of missiles during the middle of the cold war. Its kind of intimidating thing if you think about it of its really of that time. From the American Revolutionary war. The civil war, and world war one, to ward war two. The cold war and beyond. So did the winners of the hotdog eating contest at coney island. Its the siting that has rock the nba i will explain how this may affect the sixers in future signings. All that coming up in sports. Since friday the nba has been spending ridiculous money signing free agents. Nba teams spent over 2. 5 billion in three days but today the signing that has rock the nba kevin durant left oklahoma city, signed with the evil opponent the golden state warriors. Now durant science twoyear deal, 54 million with an opt out after one year. The reason for opt out is when he science again next year he will get the maximum at 233 million. He could have made the same with the thunder. Now in a post duran wrote the primary mandate i had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as player as that has always steered me in the right direct. Im also at a point in my life it is equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man. Moving out of my comfort zone to a new study and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth wet would. Its about money. This is not good for equality and parody in the nba along with having the same teams compete for championships every year. This is also a big blow to teams like the 76ers. Bigtime free agents dont want to go to team and help build. They want a team that is ready made to win a title. And salary cap space is not an issue any more because the gap the cap has gone up so much, any team can sign these players. Fans thought the sixers had more cap space to sign players reality all teams now have cap space. The sixers began the summer like tonight salt like city brett brown there not coaching but watching his players along with Brian Coangelo and every of everybody wants to see ben simmons.
