Our Chris Oconnell is live in ridley park where drivers a on edge with tonights weather swings. Lets start with meteorologist kathy orr track wrack we are right now. Most of the snow has moved out now were talking about freezing rain and so difficult to detect it looks like its raining but once it hits Something Like a metal object, a railing or even a sidewalk, it freezes on contact, and thats what makes it so dangerous. When youre driving and hits your windshield thats warm it will look like rain. You can see all of this pink is freezing rain. I was just outside in old city philadelphia. Were seeing some icing as well even though the temperature is 33 degrees. Little bit of a break through south jersey witnesses plane rain temperatures in the 40s. Freezing drizzle moving through philadelphia were slowly warming here and to the north and west were seeing some freezing drizzle as well. So right now looking at visibilities improved in most areas wrightstown still looking at a mile visibility and we have that freezing rain advisory just issued from the National Weather Service Within the past few minutes. It will go into effect. Nitts effect right now in philadelphia until midnight and then into the Lehigh Valley where wee do expect additional icing for a little while longer with cold temperatures till about 2 00 a. M. With this its all about the surface temperature. The road temperature and for more on that and what to expect in the morning ill toss it over to scott, my colleague, scott. It will be a long overnight in some spots. Yeah it certainly is, kathy. Of course, we had the arctic invasion over the weekend. So the ground temperatures are relatively cold. The Area Temperatures they will slowly but surely rise so lets take look at the numbers right now across the area. Take a look down the shore. 48 degrees currently in Atlantic City. 45 in wildwood. We have 33 degrees so that is critical 1 degree above freezing in philadelphia. But look at wilmington. Look at trenton freezing. 20 still as we move north and west. So well take you hour by hour. Precip lets up a bit across the i95 corridor. But there will still be some pockets of some freezing rain especially north and west. But then look at the clock. This is tomorrow morning at 6 00 a. M. Were talking 40s maybe even 50degree temperatures along the i95 corridor. So its all above freezing and all rain. However, as we take a look at that bus stop forecast for tomorrow, mostly cloudy, maybe still sprinkles out there. Temperatures ranging 44 to 50 degrees. Because the ground is relatively cold, there could still be some patchy black ice, some slick spots due to the melting. But once again, temperatures will be climbing well above freezing. But we wont be done with that rainfall kathy we still have some concerns as we move toward tomorrow afternoon. Absolutely. The big concern tomorrow will be flooding and also the threat of thunderstorms. Well talk more about that and whats to come in the seven day forecast later in the broadcast. All right, kathy, thanks. I guess you get one eye out liar who does Something Like that report roar this man 18yearold nova freshman justin yim from douglas ton new york was dealing lsd out of his dorm room on south campus. Friday night a freshman male who turn out to be yims roommate was reported acting wildly. The subject had walked into one of the facilities of villanova actually assault add female. Public safety immediately converged on hill attempted to make contact where he began assaulting the Public Safety officers. Reporter student was arrested and rushed to bryn mawr hospital before the night was out two other male freshmen had also overdosed and rushed to bryn mawr. A probe led Public Safety officials and Radnor Police to yims dorm room where they say they discovered 37 tabs of lsd nearly 9,000 in cash, Drug Paraphernalia and what appeared to be a package of marijuana. Lsd is a powerful a luce know jenn that can dramatically alter moods and can lead to reckless even dangerous behavior. This is really thought to be a drug of the past and its disappointing that it made appear albeit hopefully brief back on our campus. Delaware county the unresponsive man that firefighters pulled from a burning home today as died. Flames broke out inside the home on the 500 block of Strathmore Road in havertown around 10 00 this morning. Firefighters found the man on the first floor of the home. Authorities have not yet released his identity. The fire damaged that home so badly demolition crews took the rest of it down after First Responders wrapped up. Police in Atlantic City county, new jersey have charged a man assaulted a person then made a false 911 call to try to throw off responding officers. Hamilton Township Police say they got a call around 3 00 this morning for an assault in the area of cologne gardens. Soon after that, investigators say they got ooh 911 call reporting a drunk male with a knife at a nearby wawa. Police say it turns out the man wanted for assault carl pointdexter made that false report in attempt to divert police. Officers arrested him as he tried to get on a bus. We now know why more than 200 people became sick at a local college. Administrators at ursinus blame the norovirus. Some students became so sick they ended up in the hospital. Bill anderson shows us how the college is trying to make sure this does not happen again. Reporter after two days of a virtual quarantine here on Ursinus Colleges campus, students are back and there are at least preliminary answers about what caused over 200 students to contract a strong but short lived stomach virus. So i dont think we had enough notice at all and even when i was in the hospital, they were saying, like, it like went so quickly. They should have, um, done more earlier. Reporter dat Montgomery County Health Department explained that norovirus was the cause of the illness. So we now know the medical term. But students here explained it in their terms. I woke up middle of the night thursday around 5 00 in the morning and i had to vomit immediately. I knew i was sick right away. Reporter illness and social media response were rapidly spreading. One student who started the social media term ursinus playing told me he was surprised and a little bit amused how many people were talking about their stomach bug. The Health Department pointed out norovirus is fairly common referred to as Food Poisoning or stomach flu. Its highly contagious but thankfully usually short lived. They say wash your hands, wash fruit and vegetables, and disinfect any contaminated surfacesurfaces that should help prevent you getting it. If you do get it they say generally it passes in 24 hours. Police say two teens went after her for her purse. 32yearold Vanessa Martinez was left with a broken nose, fractured bones in her face and one much her eyes almost swollen shut. She says one of the guys beat her with a gun when she wouldnt let go of her purse. She says she had important medicine inside. Then she says he called a friend to help him who started kicking her. Winds out of the east beginning to shift at about 3 miles an hour. Not a lot of wind yet but tomorrow morning, a lot of the wind with a lot of warmth. Thats something to look forward tom heres a look at snow accumulations. Mt. Laurel a little over an in inch. Bear delaware 1. 5. Chadds ford 1. 3. Lehigh Valley Airport 1. 2 and philadelphia International Airport 1 inch of snow. The big problem is the icing. You can see it in pink. This is freezing rain and some freezing drizzle. Coating some areas across the area. And were looking at some break in the action through south jersey and little bit of a gap downstream through delaware. So the precipitation will be light and as warm air works in it will be changing over to ra rain. By about midnight the freezing rain advisory will expire in philadelphia. We do think well see mainly rain by then and by 2 00 a. M. , that will be stretched into the Lehigh Valley where it should be warm enough to see mainly rain. But you can see tenth of an inch possible accumulation of ice and as you go Lehigh Valley more before that rain moves in. Take it easy on area roads. Temperatures mild down the sho shore. Atlantic city 48. 33 in philadelphia. Still cold enough for some snow or frozen precipitation to the north and west. In perkasie i just got a report of some decent ice there. So please be careful on those area roads. Tomorrow well see a break in the morning. Then heavy rain works its way in through the afternoon between 11 a. M. And about two or 3 00 that is when well see some rain pouring down about an inch to 2inches as you head toward the poconos and that will create some concerns for food flooding that will be the biggest concern with the snow melt and the run off with that frozen ground and of course also the chance of a rumble of thunder, and that is something that were going to be very watchful of as we work our way into the afternoon, scott. With that front moving that was. Thats right, kathy. The storm predict center out of norman, oklahoma actually has hour area in a general risk for some thunderstorms tomorrow. So thats not out of the question but Severe Weather doesnt look likely the best chance for that eastern sections of the north carolina. But well zoom in a little closer. You can see what were talking about. The i95 corridor into south jersey as well as delaware, dont be surprised as those temperatures warm up and we see that second round of heavy rain move in during the afternoon for a rumble thunder. But take look at the surge in the temperatures as we take look what will be happening in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Were warming the column so those temperatures are going to climb. Also, the wind direction is key. Look at the winds theyll be gusting out of the south up to 40 Miles Per Hour so that will also really increase those temperatures in fact look at 7 7am. Philadelphia were talking 46 degrees. 49 degrees by 9 00 a. M. By 11 a. M. 54 and look at that High Temperature by early toe tomorrow afternoon of 59 degrees. So, yes, there is going to be some melting along with that run off. It look like well go from winter to spring in about 24 hours. All right. A look at our forecast for the overnight temperatures will be rising see that change over from freezing rain to rain. The high near 60 tomorrow. Yeah, looking like a midweek soaker.
