Awake up call for parents after a local high school confiscates a students cell phone and wont give it back until the end of the semester. That students parent posted that video online going off on the policy. Fox 29 weekend anchor Bill Anderson found out if what the school did legal. I spoke to a parent who had a similar situation at northeast high school. This daughter was wrong for having the cell phone but thinks that the policy goes way too far far. Policy policies, theyre not law. Theft is still theft. I felt the utmost disrespect as a parent. But in this particular case whatever her issue is regarding these cell phones, i somewhat get it but theres a part of this that doesnt make sense. Give the phone bank. Reporter principle carol wouldnt speak to me on carol but she talk to me on the phone told me she stands by her policy. Oh policy that attorney Ken Rothweiler told me may not be legal. This Governmental Agency this school is illegally seizing someones private property. You cannot do that under the constitution of the united states. Therefore, it violates the constitution and its action al under federal law. You trying to keep her phone. It doesnt make sense. I need my phone. It says, all confiscateed items will not be returned until the end of academic quarter. No exceptions. Guys so i actually read the policy and its interesting to note that the policy also allows the district to seize sell or destroy the cell phones for a second offense.
