Lets run down watches, warnings and advisories out there many issues with rain and flooding especially difficult around times have of high tides, coastal flooding between 8 00 a. M. And 10 00 a. M. When ocean tides and the delaware bay tides, will be, at high tides, and then we have got just regular old flood watch for motion areas. Any body of what the are has a chance of flooding that might add up to 2 inches. Our Winter Weather advisory continues in the closer counties until 7 00 a. M. And further counties until 10 00 a. M. Because of the possibility of this mix, with your rain, we will she thaw on radar in a second, winter storm warning in the poconos mountains, one more a wind advisory in effect for our shore counties, we could see 45mile an hour wind gusts, today, now here is the reason why this mess is here our nasty noreaster, winds coming out of the northeast bringing in moisture and then again those tricky areas around Lehigh Valley, berks county, up in the poconos mountains and heavy rain, continues at the shore, it is wind driven rain which makes it even worse. Temperature 31 in mount pocono, 34 in pottstown. We have seen a change over to snow, in the pocono mountains. 39 degrees in philadelphia we are well above freezing, we are dealing with rain and that is enough of the problem in south jersey. Delaware getting a break right now from the rain but it is coming back, 18 miles an hour winds in wilmington and philadelphia 10 miles in allentown. We will check our shore points with the higher wind there as predict sustained at 23, 28 miles an her but wind gusts as we go back down to the shore 34 miles an hour. Look at this in wildwood up 43 miles an her win gust, same for millville, new jersey. This is Tropical Storm force with these wind gusts out there. So boy if this is your trash day after trash truck comes youll be running after your trash can later on in the afternoon, heavy rain, just a terrible mess with these floods, tomorrow, we will probably so some lingering rain and snow and in addition some a accumulation but only up in the mountains and maybe a few flurries in the morning on thursday. Then we should be finished with this mess at least through the weekend and beyond with dry weather, friday, saturday and sunday and even monday and tiny bit of the warming trend as well but we have a long time between now and then and then a lot of mess to get the through so bob kelly where are the biggest problems this morning. Biggest problems are right out your front door in the neighborhoods. Northeast philadelphia, torresdale and cottman avenue a big old puddle but not only adult but kids will to have get a good running jump to do puddle jumping at intersections where we have clogged drains outside our front door here at fifth and market. We have a lot to get to this morning, before we get to sue and bob, a quick reminder as we mentioned a couple minutes ago, all ocean city schools, entire district, will be closed because of heavy rain, rains, wind, flooding. Also Kutztown Area School district, area schools, i should say are having a two hour delay. They have had that wintry mix right on the edge as sue was saying switching over to rain and then hopefully that should make driving easier. When we get out to steve keeley you will see why they are doing this, by way of shut downs and delays. Lets get to sue serio on a very busy tuesday morning. Noreaster is a coastal storm so it is worse along the coast. We will see win driven rain with bus stop buddy. That is deal heavy rain and high wind in many place these morning. Our temperatures in the 30s and 40s out there and because of the mess we are giving you two out of ten. Heavy rain high wind, snow and sleet north and west of the city. As we can see here on ultimate Doppler Radar there is center of the storm where dry slot is right along the whole state of delaware in a dry slot right now but eventually this wrap around moisture will bring rain back to the first state but for us were watching many other areas, here in fill at rain has slowed down quite a bit, that is a a good thing, still has very wet roadways and a lot of puddles. Heres where travel is most tricky, i78 and north of there, right up in the pocono mountains we are seeing sleet and rain changing over to snow, it is happening around allentown as well, warmer temperatures will move in at least for Lehigh Valley but not yet, around bensalem, some heavy rain, evesham, new jersey and then of course down at the jersey shore where it has been raining all morning long heavily and it is wind driven rain. We have 39 degrees at philly interest the national, 18 miles an hour sustain wind you can see that making cameras shake, 28 miles an hour wind gusts, sunrise happens at 7 11. That is convenient time but could not be more inconvenient to have this all happening in the morning rush hour. High temperature today will be 42 degrees. We will see rain ease up, as the day goes on. We wont be rid of it but it will ease up, snow continues far north and west in the Higher Elevations. Tonight we can see some snow flakes mix in the metro area we will get down to 35 overnight in the city but this is where it gets tricky as the storm makes its exit, will the exit strategy including some snow. We will answer that in just a moment but bob, it looks like from this camera you have another accident to tell us about. Another accident on the schuylkill expressway, were up to a dozen this morning. 6 32. Heres an accident east on the schuylkill right here near south street it is off to the right shoulder but as you can see headlights out of south philadelphia, again, heavy rain, pond go ahead of us as we head out front door this morning. The heres a live look, way bunch of our cameras, we have 300 cameras this morning. Depending upon where you begin and end your trip i will see you somewhere i think. 422 eastbound stack up from royersford all the way into king of prussia, leave some extra wiggle room. We have had a lot of one car accident this morning, spin outs, maybe from the ponding on the roadway. This is a live look downtown philadelphia, 676, vine street expressway where ramps from the ben franklin parkway to the vine expressway flooded out this morning. Most likely because of the clogged drain. That is what we have seen this morning on the major roadways, if the drains are clogged on i95 and schuylkill that is quickly causing the ponding and big puddles in the right and left lanes. Wildwood route 47, that is just outside rio grande and then your major roadways slower than normal and that is naturally going to happen today out of town on the schuylkill from center city, about a 19 minute trip. Same deal on the inbound side, 95 is the winner just under a half an hour from wood have men to center city. Because of the weather conditions new Jersey Transit they are cross honoring system wide this morning. We will find flooding in tabernacle along route 206, and Sea Isle City, steve is down there, ocean drive is closed, outside of fourth Second Street so up and down the drag here the shore town i would stick with the garden state parkway. Other flood ago long mays landing here 322, right before you get to the Atlantic City expressway, route 49 in millville just off of route 55, also with high water and as that high tides rolls through the flooding conditions will rise on the maps. So if you see high water play it safe ape go around the block, chris and kerry, back over to you. Lets get to some breaking news a female fire fighter was killed battling a fire in the basement of the home in philadelphias West Oak Lane section. This fire broke out in the 1600 block of milton street around 3 00 this morning. It was placed under control 30 minutes later. Name or age has not been released. Our Jennifer Joyce will have more coming up in a live report in the next half an hour. As sue mentionedded these noreaster typically hit coastline harder then say inland just outside our studios here bee can see rain falling but nothing like what steve is dealing with. People are able to walk about in a rain coat or parka, not the case for steve keeley in Sea Isle City. It looks a little bit like wind has tied down maybe just a hair. Reporter it has died down in the studio where you guys are, that is where it died down. It is umbrella then. Reporter shes trying to make me feel better, right chris. This is time of the year. Or trying to make you feel worse. Reporter ims using umbrella a for demonstration purposes because it is like holding a big flag and almost like flying away, like the flying nun and sally field. There is construction dumpsters all the this time of the year at the shore and people use those things floating like duck boats and that one you can see is already surrounded by flooded streets. We have flooded intersections on ocean drive that bob kelly was just mentioning. I see a car likely an suv driving behind us and not wanting to slow down. Now turning around. See they are all detouring around this and go up to pleasure avenue closer to the beach. You say why is the road closer to the ocean, not flooded but main road is . Well, that is what we have here. We dont have high piles of leaves, not many trees here, mostly gravel, front yard but we have high tides and it plays tricks with the sue system and we have main trag here ocean drive, landis avenue and locally flooded out here in several intersections. Let me show you video from a half an hour ago live at the far southern end of ocean drive and inlet bridge shut down because on the avalon identify that road which runs along bay and ocean on each side of it already flooded out and will get deeper over there eight or 10 00 this morning when high tides hit because first high tides last night, never went back out to sea because the high wind from the northeast are keeping tides in. It the is like they are pushing them in like a wall of water. High tides doesnt leave and second just layers on top of that and that is why we have flooded situation that we have here at the the shore and you can see some of the sea foam. One of the for rent signs already blown in the street there. That is a metal sign and middle blew away. So a lot of the debris in the the street, not just water. You have to be real careful, one of those metal signs that will tear away. Heres a demonstration purpose and i didnt mean to do it on camera. But i turn this way. Chris, i want to show you some, townsend inlet bridge will close down for work january 5th and the the guy in charge of this project, Christopher Murphy is in chargey hear he is in the very good. You probably meant the other good chris murphy, this guy knows bridgework. Your name sake is in charge of some tough work out there they will work on the bridge even though it is shut down. They will work on these high wind and steel reem force; so some people will work out in this stuff today here at the store on the ocean. It is a popular name and if you you google chris more, congressman chris murphy, comes up and now we have a general contractor, im sure he is ahead of me too in the google search. Yeah. Reporter you are getting up there, sitting next to miss barrett, super famous. Move your car. This guy should wake up and move his car. Whenever we have seaweed around your back tire that is a warning to get your car before the high tides comes in. Steve, i love you. You are the best. Steve, real quickly we still got you, you mentioned flying nun with sally field, mary poppins is another one. Thank you. 6 38. Some important news, breaking news, Police Looking for a man accused of sexually assaulting a with man last night we know that this happened in West Philadelphia it happened at fortyseventh ape Chestnut Street right around 8 30. They are not releasing other information about the incident they only have a generic description of the guy they are looking for. This isnt the type of picture that this father and son expect to take when they went on a hunting trip but they found more than a buck. The story behind this atm machine. Atm machine. It is a atm. Automatic teller machine. Anyway. Hi sue. Noreaster story will be lingering for a while at least through the rest of the day to day and tonight, we will give you the timing of the storm so you can fire started at 3 00 oclock in the morning. We will expect he will deliver his remarks. Lets listen in. Yes. We suffered a tragic loss here this morning. I have very limited information. I can confirm that we have suffered the loss of a female philadelphia fire fighter. We have not yet been able to note file nearby next of kin, so im not going to make specific identification but im going to ask from a media standpoint your sensitivity and understanding that we are still trying to notify next of kin. There was a house fire this morning, officers responded very quickly. The commissioner sawyer will walk you through the nature of the fire and some of those details and again, because this is still obviously under investigation, just some details that we dont have or information that is incomplete and we will not expect late. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family of this fire fighter who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting a fire to all of our philadelphia Fire Fighters, their family, our family has suffered a loss, and to the citizens of the city, please know that this fire fighter was doing her job to the best of her ability but unfortunately fighting this fire. I will ask commissioner sawyer to give you a little bit more details of this particular blaze. Commissioner . All right. I will start out by saying there is two families that suffered a loss this morning, the fire fighter family and the person that lost their life. There is two families that suffered a loss. I want to make sure you remember that, two families. We received the call 2 49 for a dwelling fire. It was dispatched, two engines, two ladders, and upon arrival they didnt have anything showing so they inn rest gated the cause of the alarm. Subsequently they found out they had a basement fire. Upon arrival the chief battalion two he upgraded it to a full box assignment which ace digsal two engines and two ladders. During the process of fighting this fire, basement fire it was very challenging because of the location by nature and they encountered challenges during the fire fight so the first in chief withdrew the company and in order to rheaes is the nature of the condition and put another company in service. During the process we lost one of our Fire Fighters. The fire fighter was transported to the hospital no vital systems on arrival to the hospital. The hospital did everything in their power, everything in their power to resuscitate this individual. Once again, this would be the first female fire fight tore die in the line of duty in the city of philadelphia. We have two families that suffered a great loss. Two familiar list. Thank you very much. Unaudible. Well, whenever you have a basement fire it is challenging because you are running down to a chimney that way. Because of the heavy heat and smoke conditions the Incident Commander decided to switch tactics and have the second incoming coming from the rear which is proper technical procedure. In the process of those members withdrawing from the basement, one of our members became heat entrapped. Unaudible. Correct, correct. Unaudible. What i said was a basement fire, what happens in a basement fire you have a chimney effect. A fire in the basement it is a chimney effect. You are running dunn to the basement to put fire up. Heat and smoke is coming down those steps. It is running down in the chimney. That will make conditions challenging as opposed to regular fire and vent up, from top down. How many years was this person a fire fighter. Eleven years. Reporter unaudible. She spent time at engine 64 in the past six years. Unaudible. I dont have the exact age at the time we are still working on getting that information. We are in the releasing any kind of details until we get a chance to contact the family. Unaudible. Not at this time but we have in the contacted anyone. Once we have that fur we release it at a later date. Unaudible. As far as i know shes a philadelphia native, 11 years in the Fire Department. Always work at pretty busy companies. Very, very, very good fire fighter. Unaudible. All right. We are listening live to the News Conference this morning in light of the death this morning of the fire fighter killed battling a fire in West Oak Lane. Fire happened at 3 00 oclock this morning and again, a lot of the information is still coming in. They have not released her name but they did say that she is the first female fire fighter to die in the line of duty in philadelphia ever. The philadelphia Fire Department, the the paid Fire Department started in 1870, volunteer Fire Department was in 1700s. So this is dubious distinction of the first female fire fighter kill in the line of duty ever. I remember, for 11 years she just transferred to that particular engine about two years ago is what they believe, as we mentioned there is a lot of information still coming in the investigation is active. We will get more answers im sure you have a lot of questions as well this morning. We will get them as the investigation continues. Yes. Lets shift gears at 6 50. Lets get to the other big story, which thinks noreaster, sue. Storm is moving up the coast, a low pressure system bringing in wind from the north east and moisture out of the ocean. As we watch food tour cast we will see rain continuing through this afternoon but in the Higher Elevations and to the north of us, it turns to snow and then that storm draws in colder air. Still remains to be seen whether tomorrow morning we might be dealing with a few snow flakes and should in the last or amount to anything in the city but it could happen earlier in the day tomorrow. That is just one computer model, we will check rest of them and see what we can see but this will be with us all day and all night tonight and for most of us it will be just a rain event at least today. Our issues are coastal flooding between eight and 10 00 a. M. , for all of the counties highlighted there, we have got flood watch in effect for today, we have got Winter Weather advisory north and west and of course winter storm warning in the poconos mountains.
