We are told mayor Michael Nutter is on his way here to the hospital avenues broke that one of his fire fighter died in the line of duty overnight. A fire broke out just before 3 00 oclock this morning on the 1600 block of middleton street in West Oak Lane. We are told it was a fire in the basement, and a fire fighter was injured, rushed to Einstein Medical Center where she later died. We have in word on the cause of the fire or circumstances leading up to the Fire Fighters death. We also do not have the identity of this fire fighter at this time. We are waiting more details from fire officials and maybe even mayor himself once he gets here maybe he will come over here and talk with us. As i mentioned we are working on gathering details surrounding this Fire Fighters death this fire broke out just before 3 00 oclock this morning. This fire broke out in the 1600 block of milton street around 3 00 this morning. It was placed under control 30 minutes later. Name or age has not been released. Let me show you video from a half an hour ago live at the far southern end of ocean drive and inlet bridge shut down because on the avalon identify that road which runs along bay and ocean on each side of it already flooded out and will get deeper over there eight or 10 00 this morning when high tides hit because first high tides last night, never went back out to sea because the high wind from the northeast are keeping tides in. It the is like they are pushing them in like a wall of water. High tides doesnt leave and second just layers on top of that and that is why we have flooded situation that we have here at the the shore and you can see some of the sea foam. One of the for rent signs already blown in the street there. That is a metal sign and middle blew away. So a lot of the debris in the the street, not just water. There was a house fire this morning, officers responded very quickly. The commissioner sawyer will walk you through the nature of the fire and some of those details and again, because this is still obviously under investigation, just some details that we dont have or information that is incomplete and we will not expect late. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family of this fire fighter who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting a fire to all of our philadelphia Fire Fighters, their family, our family has suffered a loss, and to the citizens of the city, please know that this fire fighter was doing her job to the best of her ability but unfortunately fighting this fire. I will ask commissioner sawyer to give you a little bit more details of this particular blaze. Commissioner . All right. I will start out by saying there is two families that suffered a loss this morning, the fire fighter family and the person that lost their life. There is two families that suffered a loss. I want to make sure you remember that, two families. We received the call 2 49 for a dwelling fire. It was dispatched, two engines, two ladders, and upon arrival they didnt have anything showing so they inn rest gated the cause of the alarm. Subsequently they found out they had a basement fire. Upon arrival the chief battalion two he upgraded it to a full box assignment which ace digsal two engines and two ladders. During the process of fighting this fire, basement fire it was very challenging because of the location by nature and they encountered challenges during the fire fight so the first in chief withdrew the company and in order to rheaes is the nature of the condition and put another company in service. During the process we lost one of our Fire Fighters. The fire fighter was transported to the hospital no vital systems on arrival to the hospital. The hospital did everything in their power, everything in their power to resuscitate this individual. Once again, this would be the first female fire fight tore die in the line of duty in the city of philadelphia. We have two families that suffered a great loss. Two familiar list. Fire happened at 3 00 oclock this morning and again, a lot of the information is still coming in. They have not released her name but they did say that she is the first female fire fighter to die in the line of duty in philadelphia ever. The philadelphia Fire Department, the the paid Fire Department started in 1870, volunteer Fire Department was in 1700s. So this is dubious distinction of the first female fire fighter kill in the line of duty ever. I remember, for 11 years she just transferred to that particular engine about two years ago is what they believe, as we mentioned there is a lot of information still coming in the investigation is active. It looks like cape may and other parts of the Cape May County might get a break this morning a dry slot here in delaware but that rain in baltimore will come back over as this storm exits and we will get wrap around moisture but especially tricky travel around i78 and to the north of that where things could be dicey.
