That is what were keeping an eye on. We will look ahead in the the future cast. We will see cloud cover all day. It is not a good looking day. Maybe a few areas of sun in the afternoon but firing up a cold front but thunderstorms in the afternoon and they should come through between say 5 00 and 9 00 p. M. And linger after that. It is a humid 75 degrees right now. 5 44 is your sunrise time. Seventyfive Atlantic City. Sixtyseven mount pocono. Dew point close to 07 degrees. Not too much of a breeze. Heres what we can expect this week. Hazmat crews investigating a mysterious odor in Montgomery County. More than a hundred homes have been evacuated in skippack. Steve keeley is live on the scene with the very latest, steve. Reporter well, it is very dark out here and very quiet because all of the town homes and condos have been evacuated. Even though you see their cars here. The the residents got rides to a local holiday inn where Salvation Army has paid for rooms. They didnt want to be in their houses because they smelled some funny odor and because authorities who came in and check it out, didnt know exactly the the source of the odor or what exactly gas was that was causing the odor. They thought it was safe to east vac wait and everybody is getting rest and coming back later abe daylight and try to figure out where this stuff is coming from and where exactly it is and sit harmful. They thought levels it was at earlier were not harmful and we appreciate the state representative in mike verb up thanking all of the volunteers they did all night and making sure everything was organize because you had some state agencies here like the Environmental Protection people. It was a long night. This is all volunteer up here. They gave significant manpower on sunday evening way for these families for these families. We wanted to make sure dep was here to assist the township. Skippack township. Org is the web site, the epicenter for all of the information that is going on here. We are glad to be part of it. Were certainly glad to have a generous contributions of the all of the neighboring Fire Departments. Reporter it is coming up from the sump pumps, one resident smelled a funny odor and then everybody started to smell it. And then Fire Department got here and got some readings on a odor and they didnt know exactly what it could be, and what the source was and that is usually something that they can figure out right away. It is very unusual for Something Like this to happen. As you rolled in dep and epa left with samples where they will try to find out what the compound was. The intrinsics we will leave up to the township to discuss later on in your show but most important part toys find out exactly what was in some of these homes and we hope we should know in the next six or seven hours when they take it to the labs. They are going to two different labs. Federal epa and dep so we hope to have have results sometime midday. Reporter as we spread our camera around and you see it is dark, this is a relatively new development of town homes and condos. But people probably wondering was it wilt on top of a old landfill but these are questions that nobody has an answer to right now. This is a newer part of my district so im not familiar with how long it was built an what it is on. If this were a power outage or no water, you cannot get people out of their homes. When hazmat comes rolling in six or seven, at a crack people get the idea and they will leave. They will want to know what it is. The township has been doing a great job communicating with the resident, social media, leaving notices on the door. Their goal, it the is to know what was here to address it, fix ill and get people back in the residents. They want to be back. Reporter been a long night for you and im sure a long day. We appreciate you to start at 4 00. So big question mark right now, even in hurricanes we have seen people who dont want to evacuate, no problems here, you didnt to have force anybody out of the house here. They wanted to be safe and that was their first precaution. We had one woman, very pregnant out here, one of the evacuees so they thought better spend the night in the hotel and breathe some clean, fresh air rather than the odor filling up everybodys house. Were talking about 150 people in total out here. We will talk throughout the morning. Some people may come back to get clothes and personal items just to start their week and workday. A lot of them will go to work with bloodshot eyes and question marks what is causing the smell in their home here in Montgomery County better safe than sorry though. Yeah, no kidding. Owe die, thank you. Five people recovering from injuries this morning after a driver accused of dui slams in the the septa paratransit bus. Police say suspect even tried to get away.
