It continues to be a tropical depression at this hour. Now, the Hurricane Center is saying hey this is going to be become a tropicalto s likely to become a Tropical Storm later today. And start that slow intensification. I still think in our area, that rain, and the potential for coastal flooding or going the two biggest issues that we have to deal with. And the time frame for this, might have slowed down by a few hours. Were looking a Late Wednesday into thursday. So Late Wednesday through thursday. Thats when the impacts really are going to be felt from this tropical system. Tropical depression winds of 35 Miles Per Hour. Forecast track in longterm, really hasnt changed much. Bringing up to big bend area of our state. Likely on thursday afternoon as things, heavy rain, but potential for flooding to go along with that rain. And isolated tornadoes, east and north of a track like this. You can spin up a few tornados. People forget about that lot of times with tropical systems. And coastal flooding at high tide. Those are the three things i think that were going to have to deal with predominantly over the next 48 hours or so. Mainly Late Wednesday and into thursday. Shortterm, meaning today, as youre walking outdoor i do anticipate more across the state. 60 to 70 percent that is rain chance with highs around 89. Much more on tropical depression number 9 in a few minutes. Well, as dave just said theres a lot we need to be ready for. And cities and counties throughout bay area are offering people sand bags to help peep their home safe and dry fox 13s Shayla Reeves is live for news Jackson HeightsCommunity Center where one of these location open the at the city is asking people right . Absolutely. Not only get those sand bags to make you are ready to make if you have any drains in 84 make sure they are free of any sort of debris that might get in wave water flow. Again, we are here at Jackson HeightsCommunity Center where people are beginning to arrive this morning. This is just one of three locations here in the city of tampa where sand bags are being made available for those who need them. And, of course, weve already seen just in at least three vehicles pull up, drivers leaving with what weve now learned is a minimum or a maximum rather of ten bags that they can leave this area with. If they are folks that live in the city of tampa. So this isnt the only place where were seeing preparations take plagues. Over in pasco county we do know that Emergency Management officials are preparing for upcoming rain there as well. They are not only paying attention for any possible biggest concerns they tell us concern about wind. And the impact wind might have. If its able to pick up any sort of debris in a yard and carry it away, creating a possible danger, flying projectile if you will for those who live in communities there. So, we do know, in pasco they are asking people to make sure that youre prepared. Not only securing that sort of debris in your yard or outside of your home, but also, making sure that you have food, might need in the event of some sort of a prolonged weather situation. So we are seeing some folks arriving right now. They are filling those bags there on the other side behind me. Ill step aside for a second so you can get a closer look. They started early here workers with city of tampa parks and Recreation Department making sure that some of the bags here were filled, they were helping people fill those bags. Fil their cars. And then, racing across the state, you had bands of showers, same set up for today. You cut rain off the west coast rain off the east coast. I do have a shower in Highlands County and quick and, and a just like they did yesterday. So, wll upper 80s, and then the rain chances kick in for later this afternoon. Heres tropical depression number 9. And you look. And cloud base is expanding. Overnight there was big flareup of convection to the northern side of this system. The center itself was over here somewhere. And having a difficult time wrapping around this convection. Because, of wind sheer and because of this west to southwest wind. You see it . Here . That sheering off this storm. Thankfully, because if it wasnt for this wind sheer right now, it would be starting that strengthening process. I honestly do believe this wind sheer is going to relax enough this will become a Tropical Storm and Hurricane Center is saying today its going to be Tropical Storm. With tropical systems especially making land fall north of the tampa area, it tremendous amount of moisture. This how much moisture will be in the atmosphere. That is going to translate into extremely heavy rain. And honestly i believe that is number one thing we have to be careful of is the heavy rain. When you thinking tropical systems i know what ur athinking youre thinking wind. Tomorrow at 5 30. Then going all the way through thursday, just how much tropical moisture this system is pulling rain. Im not trying to down play any type of winds around here, but i think heavy rain, and flooding are the two biggest issues were going to have to deal with. Also, east typically northeast of where center of something comes in you have isolated tornado. That may also be an issue. High winds, in the, you know neighborhood of 30, 35 Miles Per Hour to go along with all of that, when doe it looks like Late Wednesday through thursday. The computer models are bringing it into the big bend area. That is the official forecast from the Hurricane Center. Right now winds are at 35 Miles Per Hour. Heres that turn toward the right. So for us, in our area, its going to be a Late Wednesday and thursday. Highest impacts. Then by friday morning, this is back out over the western atlantic northeast of so again, Late Wednesday through thursday primary impacts from this storm. Quick moving afternoon shower we talked about that at the beginning weather cast. Heads up for those today, 60 to 70 percent. That rain chance and high of 89 degrees. Sevenday forecast s such pretty straightforward. Were going to get a lot of rain thats my primary concern around here and then shift into more normal labor day weekend. All right dave thank you. Pro problem if a Tropical Storm does come through it could leave behind a lot of standing water that will yous insects to breed. Experts say specific type of mosquitos that carey zika prefer like discarded tires. And flower pots that they dont do it in random puddles or bodies of water. Id never heard that until right now. Thats interesting. Well that makes a big difference. Because i was just going toel you i dont know how to get rid of standing water when were anticipating if something you can control in your own yard. Tires and flower pots and things like that. See what we can do. Yeah. First jump into the radar. Because i do have quick shower moving through Highlands County right now. Its falling apart as typically they do very early in morning im thinking by early afternoon, that is all going to change. Were going to get numerous showers working there way swiftly across the coast. From east to west. Just like we did yesterday. In fact, today is set up almost exactly like yesterday. Where you have showers, you have the storms. And the forecast calls for that 60 to 70 percent rain chance. Say by evening commute, thats when it starts to turn windy and real rainy as well. More solid rain at that point tomorrow in mid 80s. Tropical depression number 9 should become a tropica storm today. If it doesnt happen by 11 00 i say expect it by 5 oclock. Land fall in big bend area expected on thursday. Probably in the afternoon. Now, as far as Tropical Storm force winds, right now, Hurricane Center is painting a 39 percent chance in tampa of a Tropical Storm force wind. Cedar key closer to 50 percent. So the further north you go closer to where center is going to make land fall up here somewhere thats where your best chances of Tropical Storm force winds are going to be. Our huge issues are going to be the amount of rain and flooding and i think thats what we really need to be concerned about. The center is over here. You seat curly q notice how theres not lot convection on western side. Thats because of wind. Everything off to the eastern side of the storm. Lets say for instance that it doesnt intensify at all. Lets just say this whole cloud mass mass works towards northeast emergency away on that eastern side. Were wr all moisture is. Thats why i really want everybody to understand and to focus on the fact that rain and flooding are going to be the two dominant things for this particular storm. Further north you go, of the better chance you go have for Tropical Storm force winds. Again were in that 30 percent ng moving west at 7, so starting to drift, maybe just a smidge more toward just north of due west right now. Going to become a Tropical Storm today. And then start to make that turn tomorrow. As it heads up to big bend area. Were on eastern side. We will get all of that rain. We will get some wind as well. And the potential is there at high tide for coastal flooding Late Wednesday and probably once again on thursday. So through a couple of different rainfall forecast dumped severa. So thats my big concern is where youre going to put all this rain. As we know weve had lot rain recently then have some coastal flooding as well. Those are two biggest issues and whole time frame, Late Wednesday, through thursday. So its not going to be today, today is like yesterday, the quick moving, showers through the area. With high of 89 degrees. By late in the day on thursday, lets say thursday night to be on safe side, friday. Residual moisture brings awe few showers. So we have this purpose or passion to have a World Without cancer. And so so as i think about World Without cancer specifically, about kids without cancer. And thats really what part of our mission was. As an organization. And you know, i think about these children, and i think about the work that you know between Johns Hopkins and st. Jude i cannot believe that this is an unfunded effort research. For pediatrics cancer High Pressure how is that possible . Well im so glad were doing this interview now. Cause steeps pediatric Cancer Awareness month. So this is an opportunity for us to chien light on the dollars that really do need to be invested in pediatric Cancer Research. So theres lot of activity that will be happening in month of september around the st. Petersburg and tampa. And we just really need the community to know that as you said, this is a leading cause of death in children under 19. And if we can invest in trying to find the cure and trying to save these kids and to give them hope, that needs to be our role. So partnering with groups like Northwestern Mutual to be able to invest in research and to give the money to our clinicians what will you do with it . It will expand services we provide to our patients. And our doctors are going to be work and to be able to do more research. Specifically around Brain Tumor Research yes. I know you see these children and you see their families and heart ache that you see im sure is just you want to do more for them its too much. Yeah. Youve seen the children as well. I know.
