winds is here with a winning gasparilla forecast. lindsay after last weekend lindsay after last weekend, we are ready for improved gasparilla weather. it is cool and manageable with light winds and mainly mix of sun and high clouds today will rebound nicely. looking away from all the action, we are looking west over kennedy. hazy, high clouds. plenty of them streaming across the region today and that made for amazing sunrise this morning that will provide with us an excellent sunset tonight. 45 over the lake in lakeland so it is cool. seasonably cool and cold nest Citrus County where you may see a little bit of patchy frost eastern portions of citrus. 39 in Crystal River. 50 in venice. 5 in tampa. and 45 in bartow. minor changes this hour, but our forecast unchanged today because High Pressure is literally going to settle on top of us. yeah, we will see the clouds, but we will also see those light winds, the moderating temps. as this looks to our tomorrow. even warmer weather. rebounding today. if you were headed out for the seas maybe a foot or two tops. by noon remember 66. parade starts in the upper 60s and ends once the sun sets in the low 60s tonight. plan accordingly. maybe a light extra layer but thats about it, guys. we are just two days away from the first big contest of the 2016 race for the white house. Iowa Caucuses are taking place on monday. fox 13 Political EditorCraig Patrick is there, and he joins us by phone this morning. good morning, craig. caller good morning, anjuli. anjuli donald trump is making headlines by calling ted cruz a anchor baby. caller ted cruz was born in canada and that is the point donald trump is making here to an audience in iowa. that cruz watt born in canada, and being born in canada, though he may well be an american citizen, trump is raising questions in peoples minds that he may not be, and debate while ted cruz took a beating in the debate without donald trump on stage. nonetheless, that issue did not come up, and so bet that donald trump is bringing it up now at least trying to place some questions in some undecided voters minds in an effort to take down cruz. what we are seeing in the momentum, in the movement, in the closing hours here, it may just be working. anjuli i understand you talked to jeb bush. what is he thinking before the caucus as soon as call you expectations and he is not alone. marco rubio and the other candidates. jeb bush and others are making the point that Rick Santorum came out of nowhere. he was in fifth place just as jeb bush is two weeks before iowa and he managed to win iowa and you baccalaureate to 2004, came out of nowhere when it was supposed to be howard dean and a lot of people including jeb bush know that a caucus process is different from a primary process. and with that, they are barn and with that, they are barnstorming all across the state trying to reach out to activists that wont just support them but go out to you a cusses and try to persuade others to support them as well, and that is a big part of jeb bushs strategies in the closing hours and he is not alone on n that respect. anjuli on the democratic side new allegations concerning the Hillary Clinton email scandal. how do you think will affect her in iowa . call it can effect her in a broader sense but not so much in iowa, because in the democratic race, i think that Bernie Sanders has taken that issue largely off the saying he is sick and tired that this is coming up asen issue and he wants to focus on issues and Hillary Clinton does as well. i think what Iowa Democrats are focused on issues relating to the economy, particularly agriculture, but in eastern iowa, you have a lot of younger voters. concentrated in certain cities, and thats where Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are going to be concentrating their time. Bernie Sanders hoping for a significant turnout of younger voters, but hoping that they dont all turn out in the same place in the same precinct because you only get so many delegates per precinct and that potentially where Bernie Sanders could be vulnerable even though more people may physically turn out to him conceivably than Hillary Clinton. anjuli i understand a big snowstorm is headed your way. do you think that will effect the number of people out at the caucuses . it could. yes, it will be snowy on monday night. this is pretty certain. that is not going to hold people from iowa back. it snows here quite often in winter, but if there is a blizzard coming through you and we think there is, that could certainly suppress turnout and make it difficult from people to get from here to there. the challenge is, we cant really say, because we dont know when the hardest snow is the meteorologists say they cant pinpoint it. you are looking at some time between monday night to as late as wednesday morning. so if it moves in sooner rather than later, that can put downturnout and hurt donald trump for example. if it moves in later rather than sooner will have a significant spike in turnout that will effect their results obviously either way. thank you for the insight, craig. we appreciate it. caller thank you. all right, the time right now is 8 06. new morning the florida Highway Patrol is on the scene of a deadly crash in manatee county. that happened on Verna Bethany road in myacca city. troopers say two cars were traveling south when one slowed down for bicyclists. the second driver did not seed sect car slow down, hit the back of that car and sent it into oncoming traffic where it was hit by another car. the driver of the first car was killed. a Pinellas County deputy is behind bars this morning. former Deputy Timothy burton is charged with attempted manslaughter. the sheriff said he lied why he shot a handcuffed man twice. the incident happened on december 30 during a traffic stop at john pass village. he arrested 26yearold Dylan Tomkins holmes. he handcuffed him with his hands behind him, but the deputy said that thompkins homes tried to take it from his holster. the deputy wrestled it back the deputy wrestled it back. Fearing for his safe. shot him twice. they say that the story was lie they say that the story was lie. able to when handcuffed to do this, do this, do this and gent the gun out. didnt happen. anjuli the deputy turned himself in and holmes spent weeks in the hospital and the sheriff said one of the bullets almost hit his heart but still caused serious damage. the Sheriffs Office offered to Pinellas Park police made an arrest for arm burglary. arrested dan amos responsible for another armed burglary that happened january 22 where a gun was stolen. we are just a couple of hours away from a large invasion. pirates taking over bayshore boulevard, and we have tampa mayor bob buckhorn here to talk about gasparilla. thank you for coming in. a great weekend for us. anjuli it is, a fun weekend for us. for those who havent been to the gasparilla parade, what would you tell them. i would tell them get prepared in is a marathon, not a sprint. anjuli it is. you need some selfcontrol and some discipline. depending on what the weather is, you need to accommodate for having the appropriate beverages, water and otherwise but an exciting time. it is a tampa tradition going on for over 100 years. ye mystic krewe has been part of our dna if you will, and we anjuli it is. an unique part of tampa history. what does gasparilla mean to tampa. it is pretty neat. it is. a huge economic engine in terms of room nights and money being spent. but most importantly it is an opportunity to tell tampas story and showcase our amazing history. could you have upwards of half a Million People along the parade route. anjuli wow. all of whom are having a great time. for us we love with to have do this. a float and a krewe for whatever your flavor is which makes us a more diverse parade and a better parade. they think i am going to give up the key to the city today, i am not. anjuli holding strong. spill hold off until the bitter end. my constituent it is they want me to hold on to the key or start the party, they throw me under the bus all the time. anjuli tampa police have how are they preparing for the par snraid. i cant tell you everything. anjuli right. we train for this on a year we train for this on a yearround basis. we are as good as any Police Police departments in the country hosting these big events. we proved it in the r nc. we live in a scary world and sdairy people. we take every precaution most of which will never know about or see, but we we are prepared for this and prepared to react, but most importantly, we are prepared to put on a good parade and hope that nothing happens, and you know, candidly, weigh want to make sure that the underage drinking doesnt occur. we will be strict on that. we will enforce that. people have a good time. behave. drink to moderation and have a great parade and celebrate a great history. anjuli sure is. thank you, mayor buckborn for coming in. we appreciate it. and happy gasparilla. alcides at 8 30 remember talking to crystal clark who is with some of the pirates as they get ready for the big the parade, a ton of street closures going on around the parade route and it started last night. fox 13s van van with your Vanessa Rufus with your gasparilla traffic report. reporter yeah, we want to talk about road closures that people need to know about in regards to all the gasparilla festivities tots and actually some of them started last night some of them started last night. so friday 10 00 when you start to see some of those bayshore boulevard closures. as you take a look, a very abrief yailted list, but you have basically staggered lane closures that go on through the morning including areas along bayshore. areas around downtown. near ashley drive. afternoon hours, you start to see some closures along kennedy boulevard. of course you can get a full list on my Facebook Page, fox 13 Vanessa Rufus. a rather long list. i wont get through all of them right now. our ways to get around.
