Of isolated showers along the coast. The difference is this. Theyre not Holding Together as they touch the coast where they did that yesterday. Drier air aloft, not as much energy. I just think the next few days, rain chances will be lower than normal. 79 in Tampa International and the forecast today, 30 . Thats it. So guess what were going to do . Go above normal and touch 90 degrees once again. Vanessa and right now we have take the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Theres a new crash reported and its going to be in the southbound direction so those folks who are heading between pinellas and Manatee County will be definitely slowed down. What were able to tell from the shot, this is right before you get to the hump and its in the southbound direction. We have some delays forming. A left lane is blocked and right now delays are holding just under five minutes but we know if this crash sticks around, delays will quickly build. Five extra minutes and just to be safe, maybe 10 extra minutes. If it doesnt make a difference whether you take 275 or 75, maybe take 75 just to be safe. Well keep you posted on this one. Meantime, updates out of frost proof. A crash with three semi trucks involved affecting u. S. 27 at george street. Lanes are clear and there were no injuries reported, either. Russell 12 Police Officers were hurt after a protest in south carolina. Laura they killed a black man they say was armed. Doug is in washington this morning. Were going to hear from candidates talking about these issues today, right . Good morning. Yeah. These were big protests overnight in charlotte, a number of Police Officers were hurt as you mentioned. Even though some of the basic politically charged environment. Protestors moved onto the streets of charlotte and eventually began to take over interstate 85, appearing to set fires. Police officers themselves were attacked and injured, eventually using tear gas. This after a black Police Officer shot and killed 43yearold Keith Lamont Scott who was also black. Police say he was armed, posing a threat but some dispute that. They they said hands up he got a gun, he got a gun pow, pow, pow, pow. Thats it. He had no gun. This after police in tulsa shot an unarmed black man on friday, also leading to protests and Hillary Clinton clearly standing with them during a radio interview yesterday. Weve got to do Everything Possible to improve policing, to go right at implicit bias. What you see right now is theres a great deal of concern about whether or not the latino vote and black vote are sufficiently energized for Hillary Clinton. Donald trump also reaching out to minorities, even visiting a black church in detroit earlier this month. I am here to listen to you and ive been doing that. But what clinton has is the president himself who is clearly trying to build on what may be lack luster support. I will consider it a personal insult, an if this community lets down its guard and fails to activate itself in this election now, its not necessarily that donald trump is successfully making inroads with black voters. Theres not much data to support that. It comes down to voter enthusiasm, how many minority voters, black voters specifically will be motivated enough to cast their ballot for Hillary Clinton come november. Russell all right. Thank you. Laura new from overnight, a family of five is safe after their home caught fire. When firefighters got to the home early this morning, they found heavy smoke and flaps shooting through the roof. We hope to connect with some parents later this morning but certainly a situation that we dont always see. In fact, authorities tell us what happened in this school dropoff line landed one parent in handcuffs and of course, a picture that you wont see any a year book. Youre looking right now at the mug shot of 34yearold lawrence dean franklin. Hes accused of not only breaking rules but law. We learned trouble started Tuesday Morning in the parent dropoff loop here in new port richey. Franklin refused to switch lanes and could have put people walking in danger. A volunteer stood in front of the car to intervene and just listen to what happened next. Franklin intentionally took his foot off the brakes. The car struck the 79yearold man, injuring him. Deputies arrested franklin on a felony charge for using his age of 65. Now, he reportedly told deputies he felt threatened when the volunteer asked him to move to another lane. We can tell you this morning, franklin is waking up behind bars in the jail in land o lakes and hes being held on bond of 50,000. As for the volunteer, he is expected to be okay. Of course, were going to continue to follow the story and keep you posted as we gather any further details. Back to laura thank you. Russell shes now breaking biking records. Jen will have that story coming dave and it truly is an amazing story. Youve got to see this. Brookdale bayshore camera, a little cloud cover this morning. No biggie. Were not getting the onshore wind flow and the big showers that we had yesterday. A couple of isolated showers just off the coast. Thats not going to bother us this morning. High temperatures 90. Dave a couple of beautiful camera shots for you this morning. The sirata beach and while we do have a littl start things off today, were not getting that intense thunderstorm activity off the coast that we had yesterday. Its 80 degrees, by the way, out toward the beach. The tampa net cam, again, some cloud cover, 79 degrees as were looking east toward downtown, down kennedy boulevard and another shot which i just showed you but its pretty over Hillsborough Bay and theres downtown tampa. 76 degrees on the bayshore. And a northnortheast wind which morning. Yesterday we had some extra energy in the atmosphere. An extra umph. Thats what helped to bring the storms onshore and they held together for awhile. We dont have that today. Were getting into a setup where drier air is beginning to filter in aloft and thats going to start to choke off some of the rain chances so you notice as th the coast, they fall apart. Will we get a few . Yeah. There will be a few isolated showers and storms. Its still the rainy season but in general as the drier air starts to take over aloft, youll lower the rain chances in the neighborhood to about 30 today and even 20 for tomorrow. They kind of flipped roles out here in the tropics because Tropical Storm lisa, much which has been downgraded. Its still certain this will stay well east of the lower 48. In fact, it will probably stay east of bermuda so thats even better news for those folks this morning and Tropical Storm lisa, which is projected to be a 60mileperhour Tropical Storm, also taking that path to the northeast so thats good. Take care of those two storms and both of those staying well east of hot, isolated storms, 90 degrees for a High Temperature today. Again, 30 , not a great rain chance. Very warm, very muggy tonight and a beautiful sunset at 7 27. 77 the overnight low. Partly cloudy, more heat tomorrow with a High Temperature which is going to be around 90 degrees. Other than an isolated shower along the coast, boating looks good. Seas running less than two feet with a light chop setup. High tide was at 5 01 this morning so were going to get a afternoon. Were going to go three days in a row. Tomorrow, friday, saturday, 20 rain chances and then eventually bring them back up to 40 , say, by monday or so. Vanessa thank you. And well check back in with the skyway bridge. That will be the biggest crash with the most slowdowns right now and you can see still same situation from the last report as far as the lane blockage so its the left lane blocked before the hump. Delays at this point are were getting closer toward the 10 minute park so i would consider giving yourself 10 extra minutes if you have to sed this way and get into Manatee County via this bridge. Otherwise, 75 is going to be the work around. Meantime, well check in on the usual suspects for congestion. Were up into the red here, 33 minutes coming into the interchange from 75 along 275, 13 minutes westbound i4, 75 to 275 and then give yourself 14 minutes to travel between bruce 75. We have a crash that was reported earlier but now were learning there is lane blockage so well make mention of this now out of pasco county, state road 52 seeing mostly westbound delays here, partial lane blockage at the intersection so this will be a little ways east of man lake road. So plan a little extra time out the door if you have to travel this road. Russell 7 18 and the world is raising awareness for disease that has no alzheimers day. Typically its not a time to start a conversation when youre dropping off or picking up your child from an Elementary School, especially a deep conversation with a sensitive subject. I went to home depot, got my own vest so i can honor my son. I can educate people. Walter coming up, why, with this extraordinary ordinary, you might want to start that conversation. First Charley Belcher, drinking beer this morning or at least looking at it. Charley no. I could use a cup of coffee, though, if youre offering. That would be great. This is where it all started. Its been a tense night of protests in charlotte, north carolina. 12 Police Officers have been hurt. Laura demonstrators destroyed a police car, threw rocks and Water Bottles at officers and the sfrtreets, even closing dowa major roadway. This is after the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott. According to police, they were serving a warrant at an apartment complex when they saw scott get in a car with a weapon and when officers approached him, he got out and thats when officer vincent shot scott. Officer vincent is a twoyear member of the force and also black. He has been placed on administrative leave. Russell it seems like weve more. Cars being broken into, that have been left unlocked. Homes burglarized as well. Laura and now Pasco County Sheriff and his office are trying to stop that trend and most simple but effective way. Alcides segui is live at the Pasco County Sheriffs office this morning and theyre turning to social media in a very brilliant way, i think. Good morning. Reporter i think it works. Actually, i know that it is working. Good mor theyre turning to social media, whatever they can do to get the word out to let the general public know, just lock your doors. Something so simple can prevent car thefts and its an issue going on not only here in pasco county but lets be frank. It happens everywhere across the country and again, here in pasco county, theyre hoping to curb that with a new campaign and joining us this morning, we have Corporal Madden. Thank you for being with us. Thank you. Reporter who came up with the idea and is it working . Generated through the p. I. O. Office, i want to believe the sheriff wanted to push out the message that hey, look, lets empower our citizens to lessen the ability or opportunity to become a victim. And so the belief is this. Look. Social media is everywhere and we know most of the time before you go to bed, youre going to check your facebook, your youre going to check these things. Are your doors locked . And the reason is this. We in Law Enforcement understand elements in order to commit this crime. The desire, the ability and the opportunity. The desire, we have no control over. Theyre going to wake up and say, im going to do something. The ability is they can walk, talk, they can go, they can do. We want to remove the opportunity. The opportunity when they walk around the neighborhoods and theyre checking doors or looking in windows, we want to remove that student. We cant prevent it 100 but we can reduce it drastically by taking responsibility. Throwing it out there. Friendly reminder, your stuff locked up . Good to go . Good night. Reporter where does the 9 00 come from . Its a general, wholistic bedtime number. Its about bedtime, probably putting the kids to bed, probably showered up and going to watch a movie before you go to bed. Just a aggeneral hour. Reporter it got over 100 pictures as well, their locked doors, house doors and car doors as well so the reaction has been positive so far. Its a good interaction we provide to the community we do care. We know its real. We do not want anybody to become a victim or if so, we want to minimize it. The social media we speak of, people get lost in their phones or devices as theyre working around. Equally remove that opportunity. Once youre not focused on your surroundings, you allow that opportunity. Friendly reminder, lock your doors, lock your windows and remove things that are visible eye candy inside your home and inside your house. Reporter right before the live shot, not only are they doing social media but stickers, doing whatever they can to get the word out just to simply lock your doors. You know, one thing they have said in the past, if people were to lock their doors every day before going to sleep, whether it be their house or their cars, they would reduce the number of car thefts here in pasco county by something, again, as simple as locking your door with reduce the crime rate 90 . Were going to continue talking to Corporal Madden and get more ideas and maybe more things working in the future. Back to you. Russell thank you. Laura while cuba welcomes American Airlines and tourists, that does not appear to be the case for those who fled the country in recent decades. We want the parents to go back to work because they need to go back to or whatever they need to be doing. Reporter parents might not have noticed her vest. If they did, theres not much mystery. Its a custom made vest. I went to home depot, got my own vest so i can honor my son. I can educate people. Reporter its hard to believe between the singing and smiling, theres a sad story for her to tell. The picture on the back of her vest is of her son. He was killed in afghanistan december 13, 2011 so for the folks that do ask, that do stop, that do make the so much more. Is that your son . Some say, i love him or i miss him. They dont know him. Sometimes they say, oh, i know you. Youre the one whose son was killed. It means something as a mom that someone says thank you or i love your son even though this little one didnt know. My sons memory is not telling others about her son and Law Enforcement overseas. She gets the kids to write thank you kids to our troops. I give up my dreams so you can have yours. We should live the dreams we have because my son and the other fallen have not the chance to lead those dreams because they gave up those dreams so we can have it. Reporter every morning while parents are behind the wheel, they look for her guidance. There are another set of eyes looking down for that and so much more. Im proud of you, mommy. I miss you. Dave quite a lovely start to our temperatures along the coastline, though, they are having trouble getting below 80 degrees. Not much is going on. Were not getting the rain to cool you off and the water temps, theyre still running 88 degrees so it is very warm and steamy along the coast. We dont have the thunderstorms moving onshore as we did yesterday. Clearwater, st. Petersburg at 80. Tampa at 79. Then you go inland and its not bad. Closer to where it should be mid 70s in polk, hardee, de soto and highlands county. As you imagined, surface moisture sky high so the dew points are running in the mid 70s. Youre going to get the heat index close to 100 for early this afternoon. We had a couple of isolated showers this morning but theyre not making that push onshore as they did yesterday and theres not as many as yesterday and heres your reason why. Drier air in the mid levels of the atmosphere. And it holds down the rain chances. You hold down the rain chances and youve got a better shot of getting back up to 90 degrees. Not only today but really for the next few days and the future cast, dont get me wrong, there will be a few isolated storms but just not going to be a lot of them. Notice this afternoon, at 4 00, that is not much Rain Coverage and not much better as we get into thursday afternoon as well so really, days, if you get a shower or storm to cool you off, youll be one of the lucky ones. 30 the rain chance with a high around 90 degrees so technically that is above normal but i mean, at this point im used to it. I got to meet her a few seconds until she hit the path. She has 36, less than that miles to go until she beats an incredible world record. Her parents call her an overachiever and im pretty sure theyre right. Were going to talk more about the cycling record she broke, over 29,000 miles, originally set in 1938 which was done in amanda has already is about to beat that record in four months. Definite ly an overachiever, right . Mom and dad, good morning. Lets start with how proud are you . Im so proud of her. This is wonderful. She needed this for her and shes doing it to come over a lot of injuries and inspire others to get on with life and shes rolling. Jennifer so inspiring that i just met a gentleman her. He did. He drove all the way down to arrive with amanda. And be part of her injuries. Jennifer were going to talk about the positive today but she had to get through a lot today. Tell me about the record shes breaking and what shes had to do to get this done. Go ahead. Billy set the record in 1938, 29,603. 7 miles. Bikes were different then, rules were different then and she was 24 now and is going to surpass this morning and keep on rolling until may so jennifer she kicked it out in four months. Yes. Like you said, shes an overachiever. Jennifer she wants to see how long and how far she can go over 12 months. Shes going to continue putting in miles every day. Jennifer shes been coming to flatwoods park . She missed one day when they had to close the park. Laura 20 229 miles a day. Laura dad, you were with her when the accident happened. You got hit, too. Are you still on your bike . Are you still riding . Just started riding again three months ago. Slowly but surely im getting back. Jennifer how long do you expect her until shes back here . About an hour. Jennifer youve got a little party set up for her . A little celebration and then shell eat a cupcake or two and shell hit the ride again. Jennifer shes not done yet. Thank you both so much. Little bit. So overachiever, right . Exactly. So even after she finishes that record in about an hour or so, shes going to have a couple of cupcakes like dad said, head back out there and see how far she can go. Incredible. Laura i dont know about overachiever, just a survivor, right . Jennifer yes. Survivor for sure. Yeah. Laura thank you. Russell see you later. 7 51. We need to check in with Charley Belcher right now.
