M. , you see how its kd latitude but still well offshore and then making landfall sometime on thursday afternoon. The problem for us is going to be the tremendous amount of heavy rain and potential for coastal flooding at the time of high tide. Youre pushing the water youre way. With all the rain weve seen this summer, that could be a problem especially around some of the higher rivers, some of these creeks, these streams and right along the coastline as at almost 7 02 with Shayla Reaves for more on that and sand bags being given out. Reporter youre right. There are several locations throughout the city of tampa where residents will be able to pick up sand bags again today. One of those locations, im here right now at the Jackson HeightsCommunity Center. It will be opening in an hour, just one of three available for the folks in the city of tampa who might need it. But this is not the only location where prepara underway. If we take you over to pasco co county, we know that flooding is a real concern there. And according to county officials, thats not their only concern. One of the other things theyre worried about is wind. They tell us theyre preparing in the worst Case Scenario for a category one hurricane. Theyre asking residents in that area so make sure they secure any sort of loose debris outside of their homes and make sure batteries and any other necessities should they have to encounter a prolonged weather event. In the city of tampa, we do know that the people here have been encouraged to make sure theres no debris in their drains or anything that could get in the way of water flow. We can tell you right now, if youre going to be out and about and youre dealing with water and then next few days, there are some safety tips we want to pass along just a youre dealing with t sheseorts of situations, make sure you do not drive through standing water. We ant always determine the depth just by looking and also, avoid driving unnecessarily if you dont have anywhere to go, dont get behind the wheel. Treat non functioning Traffic Signals as a fourway stop. If you see road closed signs, follow the detours. Avoid downed or dangling power lines. Very fast moving showers and its already beginning this morning. I want you to notice a few sprinkles in hardee county, also in exchange porings of highlandd county. We had a quick shower as the day get more of these fast moving showers from east to west across the state. Were starting at 77 degrees. Well likely end up in the upper 80s with solid rain chances so the fast moving showers and thunderstorms are around for the afternoon. Here is tropical depression number nine and over the past i want to say three or four hours, there have been more convection associated with this storm and whats typical is its trying to center which is right about here. Notice the westerly part of the center exposed a little bit because of higher wind shear. Notice the Cloud Movement here southwest to northeast. Thats trying to push all this convection back to the northeast, keep it from forming. When you have higher wind shear and a storm, it just they battle it out and eventually the wind shear is going to relax a little bit, settle back with that drier air to the west and to start to really see this storm begin its intensification. Right now winds are sitting at 35 Miles Per Hour and most of the computer models are bringing this onshore thursday afternoon as a 60, 65mileperhour Tropical Storm so theres still some time for it to strengthen. Right now its very similar to the way it was set up kind of last night but look at all this rain. I mean, this is the thing we need to be, i think, greatly concerned about is all of this rain just pouring into the state and as the storm moves here and shifts to the northeast, all that moisture is coming our way. Several inches of rain, in fact. Tropical depression nine, winds 35 miles an hour. Still moving west at seven Miles Per Hour. Pressure starting to fall just a bit. Its starting to turn northward with time very early tomorrow morning and then eventually by tomorrow afternoon, start that turn toward the north and the east and head for the big bend landfalling Tropical Storm in the state of florida. What are the impacts for our area . Well, i can tell you heavy rain is going to be, i think, number one with several inches of rain forecast, especially from tampa north and at the time of high tide, these tides may be running above normal a bit so the potential is there for some coastal flooding as well. So heavy rain. I just put three to five inches because thats what the computer models are tampa, there will be isolated amounts higher than that. Flooding possible, coastal and inland. Inland coming from the several inches of rain. Coastal coming from the storm itself pushing the waters of the gulf and tampa bay up so whats happening is and this is very typical with a storm. Its raining, its raining, its raining. All that water is trying to drain back out and then the coastal areas, everything is trying to be pushed in from the storm. To out. You dont drain things as quickly and then you run into some coastal flooding and always with a tropical system to the north and east of the center of landfall, you have to watch out for the potential for tornados so thats another thing that we have to keep in the back of our mind. The time frame for most of this is going to be to be on the safe side, lets say wednesday afternoon through thursday afternoon but most of it coming wednesday night and early on thursday mo projecting pretty much the same thing as were just pushing everything eventually on to our immediate coastline to the west. The wave heights, notice how those pick up as the storm continues to form as well. I would say the majority of the computer models bring it right up there into the big bend area, puts us on the eastern side, the wetter side, the side with the potential for torn ated owes and those were the three things and higher than normal surf as well. Notice i didnt mention a lot about wind. Right now, Tropical Storm force winds, we have about a 39 chance of those Tropical Storm force winds. Not even 5050 at this point. Thant we cant get high wind gusts. Primarily our threat is going to be the very heavy rain and flooding. 89 for a high today. Tonight it will quiet down for awhile, cloudy and mild and then tomorrow picks back up again, especially in the afternoon and evening and starts to get windy the impact of this system, whether it be a depression, a Tropical Storm or what not is going to be on thursday around here. Then out of here, thursday night and then by friday, late in the day and especially over the holiday weekend, everything does return to normal. Vanessa . The impact of this storm is going to be felt mainly wednesday night and thursday and that may go through a good portion of thursday well and in the back of your mind, you think wait a second. I do have one in southeastern highlands county. Watch as everything moves quickly across the state like we had yesterday. So the forecast does reflect a little sunshine to start with some showers and storms to finish. High temps early this afternoon will make their way into the upper 80s. Okay. Tropical depression number nine today. Were wondering if they would do it. They did not update it. A plane flying around inside, and i think from now until the time it makes landfall, there will be planes flying around inside detecting every single thing with this storm. Landfall is still anticipated in the big bend area well to the north on thursday so obviously when youre dealing with a tropical system, there are many angles, different factors to play in. Number one, the right now the Hurricane Center giving tampa a 39 chance of Tropical Storm winds. If that happens, its likely to be on thursday morning. Cedar key on the other hand, up closer to 50 . Places like sarasota, down to venice and englewood, much, much farther. The further north you are, the better chance you have of experiencing Tropical Storm force winds. I dont think thats going to be the biggest impact around here. We have some other things we look at the ton of moisture which is running over cuba now and as it starts to make this turn toward the northeast, tomorrow its going to pull all of that rain right up through the area so number one, rainfall is going to be an issue. As far as wind speeds go, the models are keeping it below hurricane strength. Tropical storm, Tropical Storm. Right now its still having a problem with the wind shear and infiltrate this storm but this morning, you see the big flareup of convection. This wants to wrap around the center but the wind shear is not allowing it to do so. So eventually this wind hear kind of works itself out. It quiets down a little bit and allows this to begin to strengthen and thats what the mo models are saying. Right now winds are at 35 miles an hour. How about this path . Eventually to the northeast. This is the big bend area. Florida and of course, the tampa area here so watch as a landfall happens sometime thursday afternoon as a strong, Tropical Storm. Winds 65 miles an hour or so. Were still technically in the cone even though i think this is going to be a huge rainmaker. The other thing we have to be careful of is the possibility of some flooding. Not only along the coast but inland as well. High wis, flooding, medium to high. Southwest winds are pouring that water up from the gulf to the bay. At the same time, youre going to get all the rainfall which is trying to drain out. Thats not a good combination. With all this heavy rain, that could lead to some coastal flooding. Especially at the time of high tide. And something we dont think about very often, and weve had this happen many times where the storm passing to our north, the tornado threat is there so for primary impact wednesday, thursday and im thinking Late Wednesday through thursday afternoon. Thats why im telling you today, still watch and wait mode. Bring your umbrellas. We will deal with that this afternoon.
