And we begin with a news alert right now out of charlotte , North Carolina. For the second night in a row, the streets have been filled with violent protests. The governor of north state of emergency in the city. And the National Guard has been sent in. It started last night as a peaceful prayer vigil, but quickly got out of control with angry marches. One person in the crowd was . Shot and critically wounded by another civilian. Four Charlotte Police officers were also wounded by the protestors. All the injuries are considered minor. Officers in riot gear had to disperse the crowd with flash grenades and tear gas. Several Office Buildings and restaurants were also damaged and looted. Stems from the deadly shooting of a black man tuesday. Keith scott was killed by a . Black police officer. After police say he refuesed several orders to drop a gun. Scotts family claims he didnt have a gun. But a gun was found at the scene. And here in tampa. One officer just faced a very similar scary situation. He had a confrontation with man. Armed with a gun. But thankfully the officer did . Not have to draw his weapon. To handle the mesmer explains how the officers . Training played a crucial role tampa police 911. And made a jarring discovery he says denson had a gun tucked in his waistband. Its a scar another direction. Just like it did in charlotte, North Carolina and tulsa, oklahoma. Where African American men died in recent policeinvolved shootings, sparking protests. Those circumstances are under investigation. But tpd chief eric ward says these kinds of incidents continue putting a spotlight on policing. Its very challenging. But tampa is unique. The passenger rodshee Jermaine Rayford got out and shoved the deputy. After a short struggle Officials Say Deputy Gutierrez tased him but rayford still managed to run away. New this morning a . Bomb scare at one local hospital. Clearwater police were called out to Morton Plant Hospital just before midnight after getting a report of a bomb threat. But another student saw it happening and . Stopped the teacher from taking a sip. According to the arrest affidavit the girl with the chalk stated that she hated the teacher. Shes charged with one count of poisoning with intent to kill today in Sarasota Police are raising awareness for a growing epidemic heroin. Dozens of people has overdosed from it. In just the past few months. And officers say they . Need to get the word out, before more lives are lost. Sarasota police say since july first, 43 people in Sarasota County have overdosed on suspected heroin and other unknown drugs. Eight of those people died within the sarasota city limits. And police think part of the problem selling drugs like fentanyl and car fentanil and claiming they are heroin and cocaine. Police say most users probably have no idea what theyre buying. And its contributing to a lot of deaths. So today, Law Enforcement is making a plea for change.
