Remember yesterday, we were talking about with the wind shear, we would see slow intensification with this system. Well, that didnt happen and it intensified very quickly through the overnight hours. Thats really one of the things. We say this all the time that we struggle with is that intensity forecast. Here is the latest on it. 115 mileperhour winds. Its currently moving to the westsouthwest at 12 miles an hour. It will continue on the track as we go through the next, say, 24 to 36 hours but by saturday, thats when we start to look for the turn. Its going to be the everything is how quickly that turn happens and exactly where it happens but it does look like its going to be moving very close to jamaica, then over cuba and then up into the bahamas and thats about the only thing that is going to slow the wind speeds when it starts to interact with land as we go through the first part of next week. Now, back closer to home, we have a cold front but this front has pulled up stationary. We were hoping for drier air to work down the state. Its not going to happen. Dew point at 51 so very pleasant, lower humidity across the northern part of the state but for us, we continue humid with more of these scattered showers throughout the week and well talk about that. Well have much more on matthew coming up in just a few minutes. Thank you. Developing news out of orlando where there was a massive power outage at universal studios. Weve seen it all across country recently. Stories of creepy clowns frightening people and in at least one case, trying to lure children. Now largo teen says she was her school bus stop. Sheriffs office is asking parents if their kids are planning on wearing a clown mask for halloween to talk to them about what is appropriate and legal behavior. Clown reports around country have been deemed hoaxes and they say if you see anything call police. Three students at wire grass Ranch High School in pasco county are suspended for what they wore to school. Pictures and videos show them wearing what appears to be kkk hoods and robes. This video is from Palmetto High School and it happened during the students chanted, black lives matter and now the superintendent is warning students go to class, dont protest or homecoming and everything that goes with it could be cancelled, including the football games. So hey, were all watching matthew but it looks like at this point its going to stay east of florida which is good news. Jim all indications are it will stay to the east but we have to watch that turn. Thats going to be the key and were all going to be sitting on pins and needles over the weekend watching for the turn to happen on saturday. You have to stay tuned as we go through the weekend. Here is the view on satellite and you can really just kind of exploded last night. Remember yesterday, we were talking about it. We were going to see some slow intensification with the system, but it will take some time. We have wind shear over the system. Matthew didnt care about that whatsoever. It just blew up through the overnight hours and it still continues to intensify. Right now winds are at 115 miles an hour. That makes this a category three hurricane and that also classifies it as a major hurricane. Its still moving to the westsouthwest right now at 12 starting to slow down a little bit. So thats what you need if youre going to see that turn. Its going to slow down. Its just like a car. You cant be trucking along at 20 miles an hour and expect something this big to make a righthand turn. Right now its located at 13. 7 degrees north, 70. 8 west and it continues on the track over the next 12, 24, 36 hours moving to the west. Maybe just a little south of due west. It still contains those winds right around 115 miles an hour as thing thats really going to slow the winds down is its going to start to interact with some land after it makes that turn moving very close to jamaica but still, you have this cone so either jamaica, over cuba, even over towards hispanola a little bit, we could look at the potential for the system to be causing some effects. As it works up the coastline, were still going to see some effects along the east coast of the state with some large swells and potentially even some gusty still, the strongest portion of this stays well offshore and then look at the different computer models trying to figure out exactly when this turn is going to happen. In the shortterm we have agreement between the european and the gfs. European are the lines that are in white. And the gfs are the black lines so you can see as we get into monday, at least the speed of this is pretty much the same between the two different models, but you can see the difference in the exact thats different. Once it makes that turn, then we start to see a big difference in the actual speed. Gfs moves us quicker to the north. The european a bit further to the right and slower. That Slower Movement would actually help out because we have a trough that will be digging down across the southeast to help push this further out to sea. So that big turn and then that eventual speed, the forward speed is going to be the big key to exactly where this goes in track. Now, back closer to home, right now were looking at hours on skytower radar. You can see to northwestern hillsborough county, moving across the bridges, a couple of showers off the coast of pinellas and pasco county and well see those off and on showers with the west and southwesterly flow. A lot more rain to the south, venice to punta gorda as well and more of this is lined up offshore. Outside right now, were currently sitting at 86 degrees. Sarasota at 88 degrees. A cold front tried to make its way down over us but its pulled up stationary so you want to find the cooler temperatures, drier air, you have to go across the northern part of the state. Scattered storms moving inland for today. Daytime high of 88 and then for tonight, partly cloudy skies, overnight low of 75. Again for tomorrow, were looking for more scattered showers and thunderstorms around. Daytime high right around 88 degrees. Hgh tide comes up at 2 43 this afternoon. The winds towards the northeast as we get into saturday and sunday. Sevenday forecast, well keep that rain chance sitting right around 40 to 50 as we head through the weekend. We have a lot hanging on and in football, cloudy with some showers around where we head up to nashville for the gators, 12 00 p. M. Kickoff. And this is going to be nice up in tallahassee, 87 degrees but lower humidity for those games and then 62 where usf heads up to and then on sunday, Raymond James stadium, we have the bucs taking on the broncos. Its going to be hot, steamy, 89 degrees. Could see some scattered storms you know me, i grew up here. And while politics and the Political Parties may have. Changed, i havent. We have to talk about local weather but matthew is kind of what everybody is focused on, although it looks at this point like were going to miss it. Jim everything looks like it will stay to the east but the big key to everything we talk about is we have to watch for the turn which looks like it will be happening over weekend. Satellite view right now, yesterday this was a Tropical Storm at this time. Now were talking about a major hurricane with winds of 115 miles an hour, really had some very rapid intensification through the overnight hours even though all indications were, we were not going to see that kind of quick intensification because of the strong wind shear that was over the system so very intense convection with this. The center is basically now convection so were going to continue to see a very strong, potent storm as we just kind of churn through the caribbean over the next couple of days here. Now, here is the latest coordinates. 13. 7 degrees north, 70. 8 west. Top winds as i said are now at 115 miles an hour. Its starting to slow down. Remember over the past several of days, this is between 14 to 20 miles an hour, moving to the west. Now were down to 12 miles an hour. You have that little indication. It has to slow down to make that now, over the next, say, 24 to 36 hours, it will continue basically on that westerly track and then as we head into saturday, that is when we look for more of that turn, more towards the north. How quickly it makes that turn and then how fast it moves after it makes that turn will really determine where this ends up as we go into the middle of next week. But the only thing thats really going to weaken this as we go through the next several interaction with land. Some of the computer models are suggesting that the wind shear will start to weaken it but do you know what . We havent seen that yet so theres really no reason to believe were going to see any major decrease in the wind speeds with this as we go through the weekend but at this point, were looking for this to be off the east coast and moving over the bahamas as we go into the middle of next week. Very tight agreement among the different computer models in the shortterm and once you get that turn, you start to see more of still the general consensus works over the bahamas and then eventually turning more towards the north but thats going to be a long range forecast. Were going to see exactly where this ends up to see where we see the latter part of this forecast track. Back closer to home, today weve been looking at the scattered showers out in the gulf of mexico. Theyve been working their way onshore, places like up towards carol wood, citrus park seeing some scattered showers. Over to temple terrace, over in and pasco county, north of land o lakes, other showers off the coast of pinellas county, down to the Sunshine Skyway bridge. As you get down to sarasota, a lot more activity down in that direction between sarasota and venice, near osprey, looking at showers working through and theres more lined up out into the gulf of mexico so well continue to see off and on showers but it will tend to be more throughout the interior as we go through the afternoon hours. Brandon, youre at 90 degrees. Here in tamp youll head down to sarasota, 88 degrees. Clearwater at 86 degrees. Were watching this front beginning part of the week, talking about it through here, bringing drier air. Thats about as far south as this front is going to go because we have the dry air. Its not going to push down over us because that front is basically pulled up stationary. Watch it kind of play out on future cast. For us, yeah, we continue with muggy weather and some scattered showers throughout the weekend. So the forecast goes like this for today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms moving inland. Daytime high of 88. For tonight, things wind down, overnight low of 75 degrees. Sevenday forecast, yeah, you see it. Rain chances, they stay in there throughout the weekend, between 40 and 50 and daytime highs warm and muggy throughout the weekend and first part of next week. Maybe a little bit drier as week simply because matthew passing to our east is going to tend to dry things out just a little bit. Thats about the only break were going to get. Thanks.
