Now to a breaking update weve been following this this morning. Police have made an arrest in the hit and run of two men on miami beach. Nbc 6 reporter is live at the scene. He has the details on the arrest and newly released information on the vtims. Michael . Reporter thats right, jawan. We just learned from the department of Homeland Security and run crash were two federal agents. Have a look. This is a new statement into the nbc 6 newsroom from dhs. The Statement Reads in part these men are special agents with the immigration and customs enforcements Homeland Security investigations based here in south florida. And listen to this. According to this statement, both men were actually on duty when they were struck this morning by that hit and run driver on collins avenue in miami beach. Now, going to have some video for you here this morning of the agents arriving at the hospital. Their names have not been released. Know that one agent is stable. The other in pretty bad shape, remains in critical condition. Weve also just learned as you said in the intro there that police have made one arrest in connection to this hit and run. Now, earlier police were telling us that they wewe simply connection. A source telling us thatts a man and a woman. Its not clear at this time who time. Im going to take you back to earlier this morning. This is what police say happened. They say just after 2 00 a. M. Around 2 20, these two agents were trying to catch a taxi along collins avenue when a driver in a mercedes heading south on collins avenue hopped the curb and struck these two agents and then kept driving. So then that prompted investigators to launch a huge investigation looking for thi driver. We know that the driver left a side mirror on scene which was a key piece of evidence to identify the mercedes. A newer model. Eventually did lead investigators to them, to the car, and now an arrest. Back out here developments coming into the newsroom as we speak. Two federal agents involved in this hit and run. At Miami International airport where Mother Nature caused some trouble for a flight it hit turbulence when the pilot landed rescuers evaluated five passengers and rushed a flight attend to a hospital for a possible broken nose. They encountered the rough skies this morning over jacksonville. A local teen charged with murdering a rabbi made a request to the charch. Charles asked the judge to release him on bond. Todays hearing is just the start of a very long process. We have a 15yearold defendant who was 14 years old when this crime happened. And it is expected that he will go on trial for murder. Reporter a witness in the case of a rabbi murdered stood up in court today and pointed to Deandre Charles as the person who ran away from the scene of that crime. His daughter and other supporters filled the courtroom today and so did the mother, relatives, and friends of charles. The witness who does not want to be identified for safety reasons lineup testifying that he felt obligated to pick one. Adam goodman represents the defendant. Things come out when people are in court. You know, we saw, for example, the witness said that he felt obligated to pick someone out of a lineup. Its kind of a problem. Reporter charles insists he was at home at the time of the murder and his mother has said that too. Hes charged with murder and hes being held on no bond. And the purpose of todays hearing was to see if hes eligible for bond. Allan sacowitz is a friend of the rabbis family. A second witness is expected to testify when this hearing resumes and because of scheduling issues, that is not going to happen until early next month. Police booked him into jail for the Second Degree murder of his 57yearold mother. Cops sayhey found the woman dead in an apartment she shared with her son. The Hialeah Police department questioned her son william. According to a report, he claimed the woman was not his mom. He said he was home when an imaginary person stabbed the victim and set her bed on fire. Water woes happening right in north miami beach. A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for certain buildings in north miami beach. It applies to buildings on northwest 155th lane. A boil water notice will remain in effect for at least 48 hours as workers repair a broken water main there. Residents should boil their water for at least one minute or use bottled water for cooking or drinking. An update now on the tonight were learning the causeway is expected to reopen on februaua 29th. Officials say the 12. 4 million reconstruction of the western most street of the causeway will be substantially completed by the end of february.
