Everyone has a chance to get light snow today if it tracks northward, but it primarily looks like an eastern North Carolina event. Well break it down, temperatures in the mid40s today. This is for the triangle, so shower chances today, higher likelihood of getting precipitation in our sand hills and temperatures could struggle to get out of the 30s for a high. Like we thought yesterday, the low off the coast close enough to get some areas, cloudy precipitation. A lot of this is just rain but were getting reports on the leading edge of that and some snow as well. The question is will it make it all the way up into raleigh . The latest european model says it will be all the way up in durham but you have to look at the dry air right now. If you believe the european model, its actually suggesting these areas could get a little bit of accumulating wet snow on grassy surfaces. This is a worst Case Scenario. Most other models have much less. Out, were not going to have any issues here, with ground temperatures so warm and temperatures above freezing. If we get the wet snow or bigger flakes or sleet. You can see the rain and snow right now but its really along that corridor and points east ward, with that low pressure system, that coastal low just offshore. And our forecast model does a good job of showing where the precipitation is right now. Notice how it doesnt make it farther to the north. As a matter of fact, if you believe our model, it says we stay dry in wake county all the way up to roxboro. All the activity will be along and east of interstate 95, which is kind of how it looked yesterday morning as well. Its made it up to the 95 corridor. Im getting reports of some snow and sleet mixing in on the northern fringe of it too. We talked about this yesterday, depending on the front, could be so far from san ford, raleigh, louisburg, durham. It could hold form throughout the rest of the day. Farther neither. The air is pretty dry so it could take a while before we saturate that a little bit. County. You see the leading edge of this. Most of this is rain but on the leading edge, we are getting wintry precipitation. Unlikely to get any accumulating snow but if we could turn it down heavy enough, it could turn into snow for quite a while. Maybe some dusting on grassy surfaces. Otherwise, its cold rain. Our computer model suggesting most of this activity would be sleet or light snow around wilson, rocky mount, and very light farther to the north too around end field. So really following along that 95 corridor, and our model suggests these are the areas that could get winter precipitation through 7 008 00 this morning. It stays to the south and moves away. Thats kind of the thinking that were going to go throughout the day today. Even by 6 00 p. M. , still a leftover shower. But some areas out to the west already getting clearing skies. So the probability of any accumulating sleet or snow would be along and east of interstate 95. Everyone else really a nonevent for us at all. Temperatures in the 30s out there right now. So above freezing, but definitely, we could get sleet and snow and temperatures like this. Its the cold air aloft, how close that freezing layer is to the surface depends on our precipitation. Most of the activity is following right along the 95 corridor with heavier showers offshore. Theres the low pressure developing in the last 24 hours. We talked about this yesterday. If its close enough, well get some precipitation, and its really holding the fort. As this starts to move along the coast and pull away, precipitation goes with it. If it jogs a little bit farther to the west this entire precipitation shield will shift back to the west. For the triangle but likely, well just have clouds in the triangle for today. Tomorrow, here comes another front and well get some showers late in the day. Well start sunny, clouds increasing later in the day, watch for a rain shower late in the day because the breeze coming in from the southwest will keep our temperatures around 5053. That moves through, a reinforcing shot of really cold air comes in on tuesday. That breeze out of the west could be gusting to 25. It will feel really cold and we could squeeze out a few flurries on that day as well. Not even close to that in San Francisco. Great football weather for the super bowl today. 74 at kickoff. And we are getting snow flakes too, primarily rain, and you see in the bright areas of yellow, thats not necessarily heavy areas of rain. Its snow aloft melting. Its suggesting that might be hail, which its not. Its snow thats melting, primarily rain down here and along that 95 corridor, we are seeing some sleet mixing in. The question is, will it make it any farther north, and likely, it will not. So we should be dry around the triangle and points north ward today, cloudy, different stories to the south. Everyone above freezing this morning. A little bit higher dew points, meaning that precip will reach the ground. Even if it tried to get up here with dew points in the lowmid20s, there will be evaporation taking place first, which means it will be very difficult for that precipitation to make it up to the triangle. Showers are right now, the heaviest is well to the south and theres the low that developed like yesterday offshore, far enough offshore to not be a major concern for us, and the path pushing off to the north and the east and, therefore, i think well be quiet around the triangle today. With that in mind, temperatures dont move much, mid40s for highs today, tomorrow, a little bit warmer and a bigtime shot of cold air for the rest of the week. More of that in a few minutes. North carolina naacp meeting to throw out congressional maps. The vote comes weeks before the states primary. The fundamental districting principles has a voting impact. [cheering] caitlin that was the reaction of those gathered at the naacp sponsored conference one day after federal judges declared congressional voting maps in North Carolina, the results of illegal racial gerrymandering. I want you to know that that is exactly what the naacp members said to the General Assembly back in 2011 when these public. Caitlin and now despite the opposite ruling from state december, it appears federal judges agree with the naacp, that race was the main factor in drawing lines for districts 1 and 12. As a result, lawmakers now need to come up with new boundaries for those two districts within the next two weeks, or the state could trite try to get a stay from an appeals court. If there is no stay, elections could not proceed under the current districts. Caitlin primaries could be pushed back or if a stay is granted, districts could stay the home and voting would take place as planned for now. This uncertainty, coupled with the ruling itself, are leading to negative responses from many g. O. P. Lawmakers. Notice were not seeing any northward progression here. Likely, a lot of us in wake county, especially in Durham County and points northward, will not get anything today. Its mainly going to be along that 95 corridor. So the worst Case Scenario along that 95, we could see some accumulating snow. This is the european model. If this is the worst Case Scenario, thats not enough to really cause enough of an issue at all. Other models suggest a dusting on grassy surfaces and thats it likely well have sleet mixed with snow and thats about it. Along the northern fringe of that precipitation shield, which would be the 95 corridor. In durham, 38 degrees, light breeze around 3 miles an hour and quiet. That precip is really following that 95 corridor to a t, low pressure offshore. Our models suggest thats where the precipitation will be. Its not initializing really well right now, but the idea is the odds the farther north you live, the less chance youll get anything today. The further south and east, it will be messy, with ground temperatures still warm. We expect minimal concerns on the roadways. Thats the good news. A little milder tomorrow and a shot of cold air comes in. The average high, 54, nowhere close to that from tuesday to friday, some cold air is coming our way. Along the 95 corridor, you can see where the precipitation is, and its really following along models were suggesting yesterday. This is not all rain and this is not all sleet so take it for what its worth but in fayetteville getting reports of sleep pellets mixing in along the 95 corridor. Notice its not making any northward progression. The air mass pretty dry along the triangle. Likely, well stay dry but ill show you a High Resolution model that says otherwise. A rainsleet mix to the north and all snow in places around rocky mount. Light precipitation going on there. Likely not enough to cause any major headaches today but the potential exists. We could have a few hours of wintry precipitation. Heres a highresolution predictor model and its showing where the precipitation is initializing nicely. Notice as we go through time, it starts into southern wake county with temperatures in the 40s, likely a chilly rain, if it makes it this far north but to the south, we could have turning into a light rain, and if this does verify a light shower possible in the triangle. Other data im looking at says the cutoff line will be southern wake county. Regardless of where you live, you might get nothing at all today, and it depends along this low wrapping up and moving along the coast and looking very impressive as it intensifies throughout the day today into tomorrow. If theres any snow at all, this is a forecast showing accumulating snow showing nothing at all at this point in time. So were not worried about major accumulations here, more of a novelty if anything. Temperatures in the 30s across the board, everybody above freezing, dew pointses in the 20s in the triangle. A lot of dry air, even if this shield of precipitation starts to come farther north, initially, it will take time with the evaporate and reaching the ground. Quite a bit of precipitation going up. Theres the low formed offshore will be with us during the day in our eastern zones. Western zones, more than likely dry today. It moves away quickly and look at this, another front comes in tomorrow. This one will start sunny, clouds increasing throughout the day and watch for an afternoon shower or evening shower and colder air moves on by. We could get a few flurries on tuesday.
